Take a moment to appreciate Harry Truman‘s negotiating skills. He got Hitler to surrender everything, agree to Germany’s occupation and then shoot himself in the head.
Take a moment to appreciate Harry Truman‘s negotiating skills. He got Hitler to surrender everything, agree to Germany’s occupation and then shoot himself in the head.
But he didn’t win a peace prize.
And of course those two atomic bombs we dropped on Japan were masterful feats of "negotiation."
Wait. Hitler negotiated? I thought I knew history.
IKR?
Or Gerald Ford’s negotiation for the end of the Vietnam War. Such brilliant diplomacy.
In a nutshell: Putin can attack other countries and the US will let him kill and steal with impunity because Trump would like to participate in some killing and theft as well. Canada and Greenland have been in his sights.
Don’t forget the Panama Canal!
There are so many sovereign nations to conquer. The real question is, where to start.
Hirohito negotiated a good deal for himself.
I doubt that Trump nor Vance can convince Putin to blow his brains out, but if they can that'd be great.
HUH?! Hitler committed suicide and Japan surrendered ONLY AFTER TWO nuclear bombs devastated two major cities!
was even a better negotiator with Japan, apparently (US, don't do this technique today, please)
Vance is ignorant. Sadly, I fear this aligns with the intelligence of most Americans.
Kudos!
A heartbeat away from the presidency.
Has this fool read a history book? Ever?
I am so tired of these idiots!
Mr Vance, we have the Aztec Empire on line 1 The Inca Empire on Line 2 The Union Army on line 3 The North Vietnamese on line 4 The Romans on line 5 The Normans on line 6....
He said Biden put people in jail “Willy-nilly”. Kristen no question? I’ll ask @Who??”
The surrender of Japan and Germany required no concessions on our part. We did not let King George keep Massachusetts. We did not let the confederacy keep some slaves.
Reread the history of the Reconstruction. Sure they weren't slaves but they weren't free men.
True! But not the point.
True indeed, but all wars are not ended through concessions by the victor. We did indeed bungle reconstruction, but that was after the shooting stopped.
Harry S Truman, the real author of “The Art of the Deal” - anything else is a cheap knock off.
I remember reading in history books as a child how Hirohito masterfully negotiated for two atom bombs to be dropped on Japanese cities.
And everyone knows how Truman out-negotiated Hitler to sign that treaty letting the US and Britain conflagrate Dresden.
I liked that story
also trump is like so good at negotiating with russia as we have seen even the lie is a steaming pile of turds
This is how you negotiate hostile takeovers and bribes. Not diplomacy. It’s nothing but a $ grift.
excellent point: Did Truman negotiate with Hitler? Only if by “negotiation,” you are thinking of this scene in The Fifth Element where someone says of Bruce Willis character “where did he learn to negotiate like that!!?”
Don't forget Emperor Hirohito, Harry was a negotioator so good he could bring grown manly-men to their knees with tears in their eyes.
And as others have mentioned, Truman also convinced Hirohito, a living god at the time, to vapourize hundreds of thousands of his worshippers and cripple future generartons with cancer as part of a plea deal to renounce his title as the Sun God and agree to American occupation of Japan
To be fair, Stalin had a piece of that negotiation...
Hiroshima?
The civil war ended with unconditional surrender. That was kind of a big event.
I think he doesn’t understand what unconditional surrender is.
After being president for only a few days!
The GOP. There aren’t sending us their best, folks.
There is no "best" in the GOP to send.
Nice work capturing such an important moment in world history with one paragraph! 👍 “Take a moment to appreciate Harry Truman‘s negotiating skills. He got Hitler to surrender everything, agree to Germany’s occupation and then shoot himself in the head.”
Post of the year so far. Brilliant.
What an idiot.
Wormtongue. He talks plausibly but it's 100% low-grade bullshit.
More verbal vomit from JayDee!
They all just talk shit, constantly now. It’s the interviewer’s job to call them on it.
A fool, a hack and desperate to ingratiate himself with virtually anyone, about anything. This is what a large portion of America has chose. "Bye, bye Miss American pie."
@JDVance knows better; he just presumes - with apparent justification - that his ignorant followers do not. The infuriating part: The media also knows better but constantly gives him a pass.
Huh? I missed that "surrender everything" chapter.
www.archives.gov/milestone-do...
They didn't call him "Give 'Em Hell Harry" for nothing.
Grimma Wormtongue called. He wants to know if J.D. is teaching a master class on subterfuge, and where he can sign up.
JD Vance wasn’t always an idiot. But like Ted Cruz, also a very sharp guy, the current state of the party is avoiding facts and intellectual curiosity at every turn. See Carlson wreck Cruz for details. Vance, like Trump, is running by the moment. The idiot act will catch up to him like Cruz.
This made my year!
We really need a Harry Truman who can negotiate this way with Trump.
Did they not have schools where this idiot grew up?
JD is not the brightest bulb on the Xmas tree, that actually goes for all Republicans/MAGA scumbags.
Apparently the veep is not a student of history- The Allied leaders agreed that there would be no negotiations with Germany in 1945, only unconditional surrender.
Ah yes… the historic ‘Treaty of Hitler’s Bunker of Death’. Some great photo opps for Harry! 🤦
More lies
WW1, WW1, The American Civil War, the various Napoleon wars. All famously ended with some simple peace negotiations and everyone went home and everything was fine forever
The level of ignorance is truly breathtaking.
Hello jimgarrisonii.bsky.social 🌹 We are living in harsh conditions in Gaza. War and famine threaten our lives every day. My family is in desperate need of your help. Donate anything that can lighten our burden. Don’t stay silent!🙏🏻
Did he say he went to college?
There are no smart people in this administration.
Oh, yes--the "unconditional surrender" negotiation. Also--let's talk about the negotiation at Appomattox Court House.
He’s as Bat shit crazy as his Mentor Peter Thiel !
another 'baffle them with bullshit' response from an unqualified slug
Christ this hillbilly is stooopid.
This is why we need PBS, for adults.
No “JD” . “If you go back to WW2” you will see that evil was defeated then forced to negotiate.
I swear half the dumb stuff that comes out of mouths of guys like Vance is because they’ve played too many Paradox games.
@kristen Walker was disappointing. Seemed more like an interview Fox would do. I suspect the #Trump admin won’t do interviews unless there is an agreement not to fact check or question anything they say
My dad was part of the German occupation forces in WWII. I’m glad he’s not alive to see what’s happening today. He hated Trump. He hated Nazis. He loved his country and democracy. Be like my dad.
Would be nice if Truman could speak to and negotiate with Donny...
Can we have Truman's head in a jar (Futurama style) have a sit down with Trump? 🤔
I also like how Corporal Maybeline has reduced “unconditional surrender” to a “negotiation”.
Stop talking like you’re going to force them then. Would the US give up territory to end a war? It doesn’t even want the Gulf of Mexico to be called ‘the gulf of Mexico’. These people should not be mediating. They have too much interest in the outcome.
His strategic use of Fat Man and Little Boy was a brilliant negotiating tactic. The Japanese found themselves and gave into all of his demands.
Vietnam was a negotiated settlement, after we lost the will.
Clearly failed his history courses, eh?
Well, maybe for Stalin …
The only real negotiations that took place in 1945 were between FDR, Churchill, and Stalin at Yalta… and they did not go well.
This is what happens when you elect an Ivy League lawyer - they think they are so smart, so special, so brilliant. Don’t forget it was Ivy League John Roberts who has destroyed the VRA and empowered an authoritarian.
😂 lol
His eye makeup looks really good today as he enjoys the sound if his own voice. Worthless POS.
Get thee to a bunker!
They never stop lying.
Art of the deal
Those soldiers would be rolling in their graves with righteous fury over the capitulation to fascists in the US today.
I’m into body language study, and JD’s slouch, giving sideway, listening w/o listening based on trying to suppress back talk, tell you all you need to know about condescension, inauthentic “relaxed posture,” and cliched Ivy League know-it-all w/o much knowledge says it all.
What a blown opportunity for Kristin Welker to point out in real time how terrible his example was
She never will. She has her marching orders.
Once Fat Man and Little Boy sat at the table, the negotiations went swingingly
What? With them shooting each other in the head? Why must there be wars anyway? Innocent people die because of these childish PISSING MATCHES.🤨
FJDV
Get rid of this administration ASAP!
For a dumb guy, JD is really dumb. And he will running the US when Trump croaks on a Happy Meal.
Vance is dumber than a bag of hammers.
That’s not how the timeline went. Truman (and Churchill and Stalin) made it clear there would only be unconditional surrender. The Allies were sweeping across a destroyed Germany and the Red Army was literally just blocks away from Hitler’s Berlin bunker when he killed himself.
Now do Trump
2/ What remained of the German military command surrendered shortly afterwards. On May 7, 1945 in Reims, France, and a day later in Berlin to obtain the signature of Russia’s representative in the former Nazi capital.
There was a real breakthrough in the negotiation process after German side decided to make Karl Dönitz their representative.
It doesn't look like paid vacations in India are good for JD "Trump is Hitler". Otoh, he probably gets his brain Palantir'd by "Anti-Christ" Thiel every day, so how could he possibly retain any real data like that UK is a nuclear power, or UK's population composition.
Now that’s the art of the deal! Not these current losers, losing all the time. So much losing.
