I think there’s going to need to be a serious, respectful conversation in this country about the meaning of “intifada” vs the meaning of “jihad”, and some much-needed context as to what it means for Mamdani to stand by that motto. 1/3

Obviously Mamdani is not a jihadist, and the right wing will of course make every effort to paint him as one, as they do of anyone supportive of Palestinian causes. 2/3
But I think for millions of Americans, the two words are mostly interchangeable, with “intifada” perhaps meaning “jihad directed specifically at Israel & its existence” to some listeners. American ignorance of ME history/issues makes deliberately conflating or misrepresenting things easy.
what do you mean by "stand by that motto?"
