Yes the argument is that tariffs by foreign countries raise prices on American made goods but that tariffs on foreign made goods do not raise prices in America on those goods. Some might see this as a contradiction and others may see it as bullshit.

There is also a thing folks are forgetting. It takes decades to build an industrial base and during those tender years, you actively don't want tariffs, as you bring in the fancy gear and resources to bootstrap. Bare minimum, education will need to be showed up. Something the feds also nixed.

Trump tariffs start. But firms have filled warehouses. So orders stop while stock is used up. So no tariffs paid until new stock ordered some time later. Foreign factories kept going by finding new markets. So when US companies reorder, availability is poor and prices are up!

I’m hearing that small businesses are closing. One small business owner gave the example of an item that usually retails at $8. Now it gets a $16 tariff added to it. Her business is closing.

I live in an area with a lot of chemical plants. One company already owned the land and had utility systems in place. It still took almost a year to get the new plant built. Nobody can just magic a large production plant overnight. Trump’s clueless about how anything works.

Rewards? You realize it’s a huge transfer of wealth from importers (US companies) and customers (US) to government coffers which is not going to be used to reduce the overall deficit or ‘balance the books’. No foreign country or business is paying these tariffs. You are - if you can afford it.
