Ok, fair. He’s definitely got a gift for that, I’m probably just being overly nostalgic for a time when “selling out” was still a thing.

There was lots of toxic BS about the whole “sellout” thing in the 90s/00’s, and I get why it’s a thing of the past, but there’s still something jarring about how open some social media celebs are about the transactional nature of what‘a replaced it.

I think we underestimate how even with the unlimited diversity of streaming video we’ve basically recreated the big three broadcast networks via the Algorithm

Every time I see him, Mr. Beast always looks like the plastic model of a dessert served at a dingy restaurant.

He's always smiling but never means it and has no idea how to sell it.

He looks like the uncanny valley but real life. Bad deepfake. Sleep paralysis demon. Janky waxworks figure. Etc.

Whatever it is its why I refuse to watch any of his videos. Those thumbnails look like atrocious wastes of time and I hate that people abide by that aesthetic for clicks.

He does that for the same reason those algorithmic “Pregnant Elsa Frozen Spider Man” slop kids animations got tens of millions of views. It’s like a self-reinforcing algorithmic thing someone noticed and exploited.

Though, by that same token, it seems like the kind of person who’s willing to train themselves to do a fake uncanny psychopath smile for the algo, is in fact a freaky psycho.

I dunno, I mean I know he uses kind of a fucked up face on purpose for his YouTube thumbnail which is better for clicks, but he still looks like this in candid shots from Getty. I think it’s natural, or he has some kind of legit facial paralysis.

Idk I guess I feel like it’s gotta be on purpose, it’s way too on-the-nose for the “Let’s do Saw 2 but irl for money” guy to naturally have that smile.

It's the smile of someone who's practiced it countless hours in front of a mirror with the end result being a smile completely disconnected from any human emotion.
