My own misidentification recently made me feel bad about accusing the artists, author, and publisher, and nothing against THEM, it feels like the flooding is to MAKE it confusing and harder to parse. It’s really like an oil spill.

It's a mess, exhausting, & getting more difficult every day. I recently saw a YouTube post about how a bunch of [real] videos look like they've been run thru an AI filter [they do] & apparently it's a compression thing? I don't even know if I believe that, but it & the implications are fucked up.

YouTube is running through an AI filter all the time right now with no opt-out. However, yes, some compression does some smoothing and lighting stuff. An egregious example of it on the fly is motion smoothing TV, inserting frames where none were. It’s not the AI we’re fighting, it’s only for gaming.

But it makes everything look like a soap opera and having it on TVs by default feels like normalizing that “look.” It’s all nefarious. We want shit to look how the filmmakers/animators/artists all intended. I want film grain, don’t “denoise” that!
