His hardest book. Dunno if you've read other Faulkner and this is just a Great White Whale, but if you're just visiting Yoknapatawpha County, Go Down, Moses, As I Lay Dying, and Light In August are all as good and much less opaque IMO.

Yeah, I’ve read Faulkner before: Light in August, As I Lay dying, The Sound and the Fury. The pace was deathly slow and I just wasn’t in the mood for it. Probably better as a beach read when I’m well rested. I kept nodding off.
Ah okay. Well, if you liked those then Absalom will be well worth it when you find the right time. It is a bit of a slog at first but becomes more comfortable as it goes.
I'll cop to Go Down, Moses being probably my favorite of his, even though many people mistake it for a collection of short stories + a novella. But I maybe admire As I Lay Dying the most, because in both concept and execution, High Modernist Weekend at Bernie's is just fucking hilarious.
The Sound and the Fury is my favorite. Read it way back in high school AP English, so fond memories of classroom discussions and analysis
Nice I read the McAuley last year, enjoyed it.
