I’m missing something here. Why was the band director not happy looking at the football sweatshirts?

Unhappy that their budget is a lot bigger than ours. Some of that is school support and some is parent support. At our school parents give an insane amount of money to the football program.

I’ve never lived where a band brought in so much $. In fact when my daughter was in flag, I had to make her skirt. Football was the money maker and helped other sports. My high school has more football uniforms than most colleges. Band was a huge commitment. Kudos to those who do it.

As a side not; at most schools the band is larger than the football team, and their friends/family/parents buy tickets, too. Sure, they wouldn't be doing a show without football, but those shiny new helmets get paid for as much buy the cymbal kid as they do by the 178lb 4th string DT.
