40+ minutes is ok for the playoffs for your stars. But throughout the season it's a sure fire way to be totally worn out and unready for the playoffs.
At some point Thibs has to realize his psychopath rotation minutes impacts deep playoff runs, right???
I highlight these numbers b/c many of the folks that scream “MINUTES POLICE” act like the only people that disagree with Thibs’ approach are a bunch of idiots on twitter. In reality, many coaches - including the head coaches of the 2 best teams in the NBA - could be classified as “minutes police”
One advantage for both SGA and Mitchell is their teams don’t fall apart when they’re off the court, owing to both defense and secondary creators/handlers. Thibs has been better with Brunson minutes but consequently leaves 2-3 starters on with second unit players, vs OKC and CLE getting by with 1-2.
Fully admit this logic quickly gets circular with more starters playing early in the 4th when Brunson rests in order to avoid losing leads making it more likely to happen late in the 4th when they tire. Some of this is a Thibs issue, but it’s also one place where Mikal or even KAT haven’t stepped up
And Mikal did recognize that somewhat. People are overlooking the second part of what he said regarding the bench players — singling out Shamet, but we can definitely add Deuce and Cam as well — getting more of a chance
It’s not rocket science. If playing your best guys this many minutes was a sound strategy, the Knicks would not be the only team in the league doing it. The coach is just a moron who can’t help himself.
Both teams identified have much deeper benches. You can make an argument without being disingenuous
If Atkinson or Mazzula or Denigault coached the Knicks, would they play Bridges and Hart and OG 37+ MPG?
I'm not saying he doesn't play them too much. But the comparison you made is disingenuous as both benches in your comparison are far better. Other coaches may play starters less as you note- but they also may not win as much as NY has done this season because of this weak bench.
Has Bridges played in every game this season?
Yes.
..and every game prior, all the way back to grade school! #MikalBridges 🏀
Iron Man v Thibs tha destroyah
😕
Don’t worry Thibs is getting fired this summer, Iron Man wins
If SGA had a game where he played more than 40 minutes wouldn't he, by definition, have at least one game where he played 37 minutes?
He broke Deng and Noah. Might as well keep the good times a rolling.
Deng and noah had their best seasons under thibs.
And then what?..
And then they sucked. Noah avg 29.5mpg his 9 seasons in Chicago. Deng 35.9 in his 10
Bad financial decision for any player to sign w a thibs he’d team. Dude is a psycho
