There's a third option, too. They don't actually care if you self-harm, but it's just to prevent a lawsuit, they send that message to anyone who sends a farewell message, no matter how innocuous. That they can't bother to understand the actual context of your message is how you know they don't care.

All I can think is that some AI deal saw the word "wasted" and "life" and a few other things and it just scanned as some sort of dramatic farewell? I dunno.

I hate Zuck as much as anyone, but I suspect that the population of people who deactivate instead of delete accounts is overwhelmingly (young) people who are facing harassment/bullying and view that as a way to make it temporarily stop. In that context, the message makes a lot of sense.
