The neighborhood is on the National Register of Historic Places and, sure, there are a lot of things you gotta do here to keep it that way. But fuck off if you're mad that accessibility might reduce your cottage's quaintness quotient by 1.3%

You'll be shocked to learn that the GV folks spend a lot of time getting mad over parking, which is very important to them! bsky.app/profile/chri...

There's an apartment building a few blocks south of me on the site of what once was a slaughterhouse. I feel like filing a complaint about how that detracts from the historic nature of the neighborhood and demand that the slaughterhouse be put back.

As a compromise, could they just start slaughtering the residents?

I do not miss my decade in GV, quaint streets aside. What really did me in, is that at the time there were only at-large city council districts. Which meant the GV council has always had an outsized influence on local services and to have a vote on GV neighborhood politics you have to pay a fee.

It remains one of the crazier anti-democratic places I have experienced. Although quite powerful, as they successfully got an entire federal highway project rerouted because the additional traffic would disrupt the character of the neighborhood...

An authentic neighborhood deserves their authentic odor. Let their gutters flow full with historical accuracy.

I don't really know because I'm not a joiner and I've never been to the meetings. Probably some of those. Mostly Boomer and elder Gen-X retirees with money who care more than absolutely anything about real estate values.

You know what else didn’t exist in the 19th century? Cars. Does the GV Society want to ban cars, too?
