One of my favorite Robert Redford stories is when Mike Nichols was considering him for "The Graduate" and told him he needed to act like a guy who has struck out with women and Redford replied "what do you mean?"

My mom (a literary agent) has always loved to tell that story 💔
MN: when a woman doesnt want to come up to your apartment, ya know after a date RR: English pls, im having trouble following MN: when a woman rejects your advances, she turns you down RR: still dont get what youre trying to say MN: she says she doesnt want to have sex with you RR: one more time
Okay but how did Mike Nichols know about striking out?
Love it Great story
Where’s the credit for the person that actually posted this? Because it certainly wasn’t you.
Hilarious!

I read this about Jon Hamm also.
and still, as ridiculously handsome as he was, he seemed so very normal, and totally unimpressed by his looks and also impressive for what he was on the inside--kind, creative, involved in his community, doing good.
If Robert Redford had been cast in "The Graduate," he probably would've ended up with Anne Bancroft on and off screen. Sorry Mel.
Who actually has something negative to say about the man? Nobody? There is nothing positive to be said about Trump and very little about the rest of them. What a difference between them and RR.
An incredibly swoon worthy man, even in his 80s. Rest in peace, man who never struck out.
I’d never heard this. I’m smiling… Ty
lol
I see this story is making the rounds. It's pretty shallow. There are so many better stories to remember him by. Rest In Peace Mr. Redford. 🩷
So when someone says “my favorite” it’s not an invitation to tell people they’re wrong about their own opinions.
You posted this as if it was your story. Phony.
Exactly
Who said you were WRONG?
I'd luv to hear one.
🤭
The ONLY time its not an advantage to being gorgeous. 🤫🤣
😄
Oh dear.
😅
Reminds me of ME.
😆
Yup. That wouldn’t work.
Omg 😂
We would all carry that burden, eh? Just couldn't act it
What did he mean, I don’t understand that?
I’m teaching The Graduate tomorrow and I always mention that (fantastic) anecdote.
Nichols' first choice - Doris Day - would have followed the book more closely.
So I - I mean we - might have had a chance to see Doris Day in (and momentarily out) of her undies?? Making REAL pillow talk?? Thanks for braking my brain.
And...the song "Mrs. Robinson" was originally entitled "Mrs. Roosevelt." There you go!
😂😂😂 3/3
He waved Doris to play the Dustin Hoffman part? Would have been bold.
WANTED. Damnit.
It seems to be everybody’s favorite story about him.
Anne Bancroft's loss.
Damn, early RIP to Dustin Hoffman too
Whew. You made me look! Dustin Hoffman just turned 88 in August.
This was just a joke about the Graduate 😂
I may have over waked and baked this morning…
No worries at all 🥰
