I think it’s very funny when people imply that celiac disease is something people claim they have “to get attention” because I can think of 1000 ways to get attention that don’t require me to give up BREAD.

Or require you to have incredible cramping, gas and explosive diarrhea. And, my favorite, the hunt for the bathrooms every time i walk into a room just in case.
Absolutely this 🙁
Please understand that if the consequences of eating gluten were anything short of “will get intestinal cancer,” I would not be asking the waitress about gluten cross-contamination. I do not crave attention nearly as much as I crave carbs.
we need to learn to mind our own business when it comes to dietary restrictions, i hope you receive more understanding for what you go through daily
Someone mistakenly tried to equate gluten free with healthy. I informed them that gluten is delicious and has great texture, so if you remove gluten, bakers typically replace with lots of sugar and fat, and have to reduce fiber. Don't go gluten free unless gluten makes you really sick
My coworkers think I'm a health nut because I don't eat donuts. What they dont see is the number of times I've had Swedish Fish for breakfast at my desk.
*been gluten free for 15 years and I still miss it*
I can’t eat gluten and I often wish there was a pill I could take so I could eat like a normal person. So I wouldn’t call attention to myself ! (I miss egg rolls, normal pizza that’s not like a cracker with sauce, diner food…)
And the crappy chicken teriyaki at the mall food court. And giant soft pretzels!
My mom had it. She got it late in life, and it was terrible. She was also very fond of bread. There weren't many alternatives back in the 90s. I'm sorry you have it. It's a real affliction, and the ppl who don't understand it can take a flying leap. Take care.
My brothers undiagnosed celiac disease led to a permanent ileostomy. He would have much preferred to change his diet over living with an ostomy bag for the rest of his life. Celiac is real, but even if your dietary restrictions were self imposed, no one has the right to judge. Shameful.
A right wing boss thought that of all claims of food allergy. A vegan with peanut allergy pre-ordered pesto pasta w pine nuts for staff Xmas dinner. She told the restaurant she was allergic to peanuts. They served pesto made with peanuts! She ended up in hospital. He still thought attention seeking.
Total lack of any kind of empathy!
Yes, but it was even worse than total lack of empathy, as you might expect from a robot, he was actively malicious.
Did they take legal action
No, she didn't, I assume because the restaurant caused the injury & she advised them of her peanut allergy by phone, instead of written (emailed) instructions. Unfortunately, the callous attitude of our boss after the event couldn't make him liable for the restaurant's mistake.
Two thirds of the country’s some variation of “conservative guy afraid of cities”.
Basically if an allergy doesn’t kill you like you’ve just popped a cyanide pill some right winger is going to accuse you of faking.
Oh, man, celiac disease is no joke. My mom has it and it’s just awful. I’m sorry you struggle with it, and that so many people get it so wrong 🫂
Or go the the er where they give you morphine because the pain is so bad. My response to those doubting folks is usually less then lady like
