The Dept of Education received $263 billion in 2023 to disburse to the 50 States. They do enforce certain federal requirements on results based on an agreed upon curriculum.

TN received 18.7 Billion from DOE. Would require state taxation to replace. The pop. TN is 7.3 million which requires about $2500 from every man, woman and child in the state. That would mean a state income tax (currently without one) or doubling, possibly tripling the current property tax rate.
OR Tennessee doesn’t raise that money and just cuts services. Before 1974, parents of a special needs child were on their own. Sports were for boys only before Title IX. This is what they want to take the country back to. “Red” states are going to feel the pain first as they depend on federal $$.

Rural WV schools are already woefully underfunded. State funds are based on per pupil count and WV now pays $4600/pupil to every non-public school student. 20% of public school funding comes from the US Dept of Ed. Without that money, rural public schools must close. There are no cuts left to make

You forget that each state adds its electors and the election is often decided by a few thousand in states like Georgia and North Carolina. If South Carolina, Texas and Louisiana actually got most of their voters registered and voting it would likely swing them to Blue. So they suppress the vote.
