If you weren’t raised in an evangelical church, you might not know that those “Christians” think the Pope is burning in hell…
If you weren’t raised in an evangelical church, you might not know that those “Christians” think the Pope is burning in hell…
several Chick Tracts on this topic. that Chick brand of Christianity puts so many people off of Christianity. which is hilarious as they really expect the opposite outcome. real gross too. like you can murder all you want but if you say you love Jesus on your death bed— heaven! the fuck? no.
This discussion shows the genius of separation of church and state
Of course they do. They also think Trump is the second coming, and that there’s a “gay agenda” trying to take over. I even witnessed a Southern Baptist preacher blame LGBTQ+ for 9/11 at a vigil back in 2001. I really wish I could make this stuff up.
Oh and don’t get me started on their disrespect, condescension, and overall sanctimony concerning those new to the church. They call them “baby Christians.”
No doubt. I've encountered extreme catholics who were sure Martin Luther was similarly (they proved it via a prophecy). Extremism exists in all religions I guess.
I wasn’t raised in any church or religion. My family was once Catholic and then we escaped to California.
It's no coincidence that their "God" hates the same people they do.🙄 Idiots.
The first #EarthDay march in 1970 paved the way for environmental reform. Since Reagan those laws have been chipped away. We need to demand a lot of changes from both Republicans and Democrats. Pope Francis, Bernie and Project Drawdown showed us how. reginamia.wordpress.com/2015/07/page...
It's funny, cuz my mom, as a catholic, would go along with the evangelicals and I'm like, mom, you know they hate you, right? Lmao.
I remember being a young girl going to see the Pope give mass at a stadium in Phoenix, and being stopped by evangelical "christians" warning me that Pope John Paul II was the devil, and we were all destined for hell. I was like "don't you have better things to do - like feed the hungry?" So weird.
I haven't claimed Catholicism in many years, but I remember that experience clearly to this day. We were children going to a worship service. Who decides that is the perfect time and the audience to harass?? It forever shaped my view of that style of faith, and nothing has ever redeemed it.
True
Evangelical Christian Nationalism is not a cause comprised of Christians. It's full of people that want the power and influence of the church, without all of that Jesus stuff.
I went to one "evangelical" service and all I could think was, they forgot the part of: "Judge not, lest ye be judged..."
So true!
"Those Christians" are 100% why I'm an atheist.
Same
Those “Christian’s” are why I no longer believe in organized religion.
I was an evangelical PASTOR and... "Those Christians" are 100% why I'm an atheist.
Well, except for the part about reading the Bible cover to cover MANY times, and thinking.. "This is insanity...." There's that.
Show any evidence of hell.
It's remarkable just how un-Christian many Christians are.
Exactly. Probably celebrated his death just for that reason. Smh.
Funny how it works… Every religion is 100% right if it’s to be a true religion. Every other religion is 100% wrong. “God forbid” if religion was merely an opinion.
A practice choice. That’s it.
I don’t mind having stakes that high. It’s fine to try to find important truths. But the question is how you disagree. Do you debate? Do you self segregate? Do you take over a govt and create a theocracy to bend others to your will? America was founded on freedom of religion for a reason.
Huh
Southern Baptists (in sheep’s clothing as evangelicals) taught why every other denomination was wrong and why Catholics and Mormons were of the devil — as well as why any other non-Christian religion meant burning in hell
Wait…there’s a hell?
No there isn't.
I've unfortunately known many evangelicals. Every one is a mean nasty asshole. The opposite of what was taught by that guy named Jesus
That's typical of the more "ardent and conservative" followers of all of the world's major religions.
All religions are fake.
Right???? I am a Christian. Always have been. But "evangelicals" ?? Never Christians. Greedy horrors. Rest with the Angels, Pope Francis. And Bless you for all you did for both the Cathlic community, and the "true" Christians.
Fake Christians. Smdh
PROUDLY, ARROGANTLY, ABUSIVELY Fake Christians... That's the part that pisses me off!
Had a brother and his family invite me to their evangelical church. I was amazed how afterward, they and everyone they introduced to me to, would ask with disturbing enthusiasm 'wasn't that a great message, awe-inspiring. The disappointing looks when I hadn't transformed into themselves. Florida..
He should be. He stood up for human rights against the will of the POTUS
Yup! I have been saying this to people the last few days who dont understand or know. Grew up Christian myself and knew exactly what they were saying especially MGT with that tweet.. Christians hate Catholics, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, and jews.. and anything else not Christian...
Yep ,and that’s why Marjorie Taylor Greene said the horrendous thing on Twitter.
The Catholic Church tried to guide us to do good things for others, but evangelicals only seem to care about getting saved and creating big mega churches.
ALL organized religions need to just STFU and be good humans.
You are right. I was raised Catholic and went to Parochial school. When I was in my early 30s, I became an evangelical. Then after a number of years and seeing how evangelicals judge other people it made me stop all together. I still have faith but not in any organized religion.
Same. I can’t stand sitting in church with hypocrites.
I'm spiritual, not religious. I respect people's choice to believe in what they like but I will never understand how people can believe in some fictional story/book but want to ban non fiction truth and facts and also any fiction that doesn't fit their narrative. They are the epitome of hypocrisy.
That's because Republican Christ preaches hate.
Add it to their tabs… got a feeling God isn’t having an open bar on these top shelf sins.
The American Religious Crusades will be the Evangelical, Heritage Project 2025 vs the Opus Dei, OSCO Catholics. Who will be the ones to take over this country?
I did not know that. So that's what MTG was squawking about. Fucking savages.
It's funny. I've seen a small surge of support from some evangelicals for Catholics in one specific way: now that Protestant pastors are also being caught committing sexual assault & abuse & evangelicals don't want to accept that it's happening, they now doubt the abuse cases the Catholics have had.
I learned it from mtg. That was a gross sentence.
I have 2 evangelical half-sisters, and I know w/o a shadow of a doubt that this is 10000% true.
Didn't know that.
Further proof it’s all a scam
I grew up in a super evangelical family. Tbh, I hope their rapture DOES happen so the rest of the world can finally have some peace.
Alternatively, we get raptured, and they get left behind to have a meltdown.
what? bc he's Catholic? one of the oldest forms of Christianity?
Yes.
Yep, they "worship idols"
Nothing like the literal golden calf / Trump gold pin they wear on their lapels
Exactly!
the oldest form of christianity
"Pope Saint Peter the Apostle, Ordination c. AD 30 by Jesus Christ"
Would be great if the church defended itself and all the people here that will be persecuted soon for not being maga-"christian".
Best friend in grade school (about a hundred years ag🤪) was Catholic & I was a Lutheran & I remember have conversations about this & how we thought personally that couldn’t happen to us while also knowing that’s exactly what we were being taught every Sunday. So messed up
Yeah, many people were wary of JFK bc he was Catholic. Also a bunch of Catholics I know will tell you that they aren’t Christian, they’re Catholic. It goes both ways.
Is that not what Protestants generally think about Catholics? Y'all had wars for centuries about this stuff.
The pope has found out,as will ALL religious people, THERE.IS.NO.GOD! There NEVER was. The "good book" is a series of fairy tales that predate writing.
Exactly! We should be hired to interpret the far right to DEM campaign organizers. #magawhisperers
Pope Francis called those “Christians” infiltrators. Perfect word for them.
I know many Catholics who think the same thing
The problem with most Christians is that they are not Christian at all. And that includes the Pope. RIP.
Oh religion … what a bugger
Guess my grandma raised me well then
Because evangelicals don’t realize Catholics are also Christians. Evangelicals think they’re special and have some kind of in with god and Jesus which is why overall they’re the most racist, judgmental hateful and selfish people I’ve ever come across.
Is burning in he'll for what?!
Im eagerly awaiting the interfaith war. Im excited for xtians to wipe eachother out trying to prove who is holiest 😂😂😂
There are self-professed Catholics who think he was the anti-Christ. The Latin Mass only crowd, Opus Dei types. 🙄
I went to a prayer breakfast once with my priest, Father Tom. Father Tom was a firebrand in the lil red town of Mt. Vernon, MO. When the lead 'preacher' got up to commend everyone's attendance, he remarked off hand "All of Lawrence County's lead Christians are here, and Catholics too."
Evangelicals are nothing more than christian taliban. They are more likely to burn than the pope is.
It is the Catholic church in my community who are feeding the hungry and building housing for the homeless. They walk the talk.
Catholic Charities does that- not the Catholic Church. And Trump is putting a stop to that. nashvillebanner.com/2025/04/22/c...
Not here. We do our own ministry funded by individuals in our local Catholic Church, serving one of the poorest communities in Ohio.
Yes, as a convert to the Catholic Church from the Protestant sect I see this is true. Love is a verb.
They’re judgemental and passive aggressive about most everything but they often believe in “good works” for the community. I see evangelical radicals only helping those they deign are ‘worthy’ ie ‘white’, etc. Many good pp in all faiths. Many hypocrites also.
You know who was raised in an Evangelical family before converting to Catholicism in 2019? J.D. Vance
I read an article about his various religious beliefs. Pentecostal to Catholic. What a leap!
Wife is a practicing Hindu. Wonder how their kids are being raised?
Tradcaths and evangelicals are a temporary alliance of convenience. It's the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact of our times.
Where is their great 2016 leader, Mr. "Pool Boy" Jerry Fawell Jr.?
Had a dipshit SB tell me bc I was brought up C, I was taught to worship Mary over Jesus, and my religion was a “false religion”. Ignorance. They couldn’t spell schism even if they were ever taught about it.
Such judgmental paralytics! To me Christians of all denominations who hate each other are equally worthless and have no authority or agency to speak for god much less cast judgment on others lest they declare themselves god and stand the trials other gods have endured.
Yep, I grew up in Missouri, and every single Baptist Church I attended had old people stating that Catholics are all going to hell. It was a very weird thing to learn as a kid. And then I became friends with a Catholic, and it became very murky and hard to be friends with her, knowing what I 'knew'.
I have had these people tell me to my face that Catholics are not Christians.
I’ve had these “Christians” say to me Catholicism is a cult. Ponder that. 🤷♀️
"Imagine" John Lennon
Catholicism is a cult. It's simply a very powerful and long standing one, with a large following. One which seems happy to ignore the extremely bloody history of the Cult (of the Catholic Church) in much the same way they ignore the extremely bloody behaviour of the "God" they choose to follow.
Now that is funny if it were not true!
I grew up Catholic and then cycled through non-denominational and evangelical churches for years before leaving them all. The strange part is the Catholic church has the most extreme doctrine on paper but the least cult-like followers. Most Catholics emphasize ritual and community over faith.
I agree. Spaniards (more than 90% Catholic) observe the calendar of saints and celebrate their Easter processions with a passion yet are pretty liberal when it comes to actually practicing religion. Like you said, it’s a community thing.
I think people outside the community would be surprised to find many Catholics grew up in Catholic schools/communities but when they are asked privately about the sacrament being blood and body respond, "Oh no one actually believes they change."
My parents were Cuban, who are like the Italians. The attitude is that you need the Church to be hatched, matched and dispatched, but you know ... the Pope's old, so he doesn't understand about needing an abortion or your son being gay or how you just show up at Christmas and Easter.
Any other Catholics who are like this, or whose families were like this?
My hypothesis is that growing up in a specific faith, surrounded by similar folks, means that you just ARE Jewish or Catholic or MAGA, without having to be introspective or examine what that means, for good or bad. Converts tend more towards dogmatism, as they had to make a choice.
Totally true of all religions, the converts-by-choice tend to be the most extreme. But I swear I have met more than one priest who doesn't really believe in the sacrament as physical truth or miracle and rather looks at themself as a community leader and servant. They may not say it but you can tell
Protestantism is so ingrained in the default American culture that it has effectively banished the term from common parlance.
The proper response is [shocked face]: "OMG! I was just thinking the same thing about you! How did you know that?" Act as if they miraculously read your mind about them.
I really haven't met any people claiming to be a Christian who are truly what they espouse to be.
There are a few. They're hard to find due to all the loud-mouth apostates.
And by apostates, I don't mean people who just aren't Christians. I mean people who claim to be Christians who Christ would give the side-eye to.
Unfortunately, that seems more common than not. Especially the loud ones.
I had this experience as a little catholic kid who went to Baptist summer camp for a few summers. It was news to me.
I have had that happen to me as well....told that I am "Catholic" not "Christian ".
I’ve had Catholics tell me they are not Christians. I’m like-you’re the original Christians…..
I have heard this also.
Look no further than MTGs latest example.
I remember being told years ago by an evangelical that Catholics were not Christians. I asked her "Then who the heck was I praying to when I was praying to Jesus all those years that I was a practicing Catholic?" She sputtered a little and then said that that was what she had been told.
Yep. I was told Catholics were a Mary cult & you guys worship her & all your saints were like demi gods & you were all going to hell. Along with every other religion. Fun times. I'm agnostic now. More of a witchy type. Save the earth & oceans type. Evangelicalism is a death cult.
Evangelicals hated Pope Francis for actually preaching and living by the teachings of Christ.
Definition of cra-cra
The rule that priests can’t marry has to go. A subset of priests are secretly gay, pedophiles, alcoholics, etc. and they hide in the priesthood out of shame or to avoid temptation. Eventually they get opportunities that they don’t resist. That makes it easy to vilify the whole religion.
And what about all the other religions that the hierarchy can marry and still molests kids… Organized religion is used for power and tax deductions. You don’t have to donate money to have faith in a higher power or a moral compass
little do they know it will be them...but the Pope will ask God to forgive them
…and they’re glad.
The Klan used to burn crosses on my great grandparents farm because they were immigrants and Catholic.
🥺
It was to strike intimidation and fear. Immigrants from Italy or Eastern Europe were often the targets. Eventually those groups assimilated. The point is the Klan has always been a Christian Nationalist group. Catholics weren’t considered true Christians.
So much sickness.sorry to hear.So much irony when entire country was founded on being an immigrant, having a new start &chance 4success & the freedom to worship as you please. It’s bizarre really. But of course so many immediately justified harming the pp already here so there’s the first hypocrisy!
We’re all immigrants except the Native Americans. We really should embrace our melting pot. Our diversity is what makes us strong. We don’t have to agree with each other. But it’s ok to have an open mind and be respectful. Try new things and ideas. We are quickly losing our American culture.
As a recovering Southern Baptist, I can attest to this. When I was 8, I'd leave the service, go to the bathroom, & stay there because the whole vibe was so dark it made me physically ill. I denounced Christianity at 18 because nobody did what Jesus taught, though I still live by similar principles.
*Principles like love your neighbor, feed the hungry, tend the sick and welcome the stranger.
alignment with the teachings of Jesus is most beautiful form of Christianity.Regardless of the house. It’s so simple. Love your neighbor.Be kind.Help others in need. Mankind gets their egos, opinions and dogma in the way. That’s the whole practice isn’t it? When you forget, return to Grace again? Asap?
Excellent point. People forget how many sects and divisions there are in "christian" religions.
🙄
An evangelical classmate told me that I was going to hell ( raised Catholic). Even at 9 or 10, thought that was silly.
I call them WHADBAGs now open.substack.com/pub/noelkeit...
imho, people seek spirituality and get sidetracked by religion
That’s not true, not across the board.
Just said exactly that. They only align themselves with Catholics because for the moment, they both want the same things. But it's an uneasy truce
so who was right about all this? Doug Forsett youtu.be/nv_ra9CXZOQ?...
A reading from the book of Doug; on the uses, and limits, of Scotch tape
Wow. Making America like the 1500s Again??? Papists vs Baptists ... Henry VIII would be proud.
I’m shocked at the so called “Christians” who think Pope Francis was practically a devil! Never knew. Can we troll them by calling them anti Christian?
I have been told so many insane things to my face about what these people believe re: Catholics. One such "Christian" told me that the priests have deceived us, have led us to believe we're praying to God, but in reality, we're praying to Satan. And that's the mild stuff.
They don't think, they know, and God herself will never change their hearts or minds.
I have NEVER understood how a "religious" person could be so hateful about other religions! Bunch of hypocrites!!!
The number of times I’ve been asked, “Are you Christian, or are you Catholic?” Bitch, we are the OG Christians. It’s Catholic or Protestant, not Catholic or Christian.
And frankly, who cares about Catholic or Protestant anyway?? SAME GOD. Stop fighting over the SAME GOD!!!
Err... I think that's a little un-Orthodox in truth. There was a little schism a while back before the Protestant reformation, a mini annulment, if you will, still friends but... separated from the Western Roman church.
That’s fair. But my point was Catholicism came before Evangelism.
In Europe... Yes, but how many Americans even know enough European history to understand the distinction? But this is a WASP country if you run the numbers on Christians. Look at it from this perspective - when I had neighbors who were Mormons on mission, I surprised them by saying not to bother
because I already decided no on the Jesus being divine issue, another sect of Christianity won't work. They looked at me very surprised and asked how I knew Mormons are Christians. I said "the Jesus part gives it away". I'm k-12 Catholic school so I know. But why would WASPS care which is older?
Yes, but you see, you have a brain.
That has been debated.
How often do we hear “Christians and Catholics” from these people? And that is limited only because they lack any knowledge of Coptic or Orthodox Christians. But then, most believe other Protestants are going to hell too.
I wasn't but I lived in Ohio, which is enough to have managed to amass a collection of Chick tracts which a suprising number feature how hellbound Catholics are.
All religions are cults that thrive on indoctrination of the innocents.
100%!! Grew up in an "agnostic" Christian cult (Evangelicals that thought they were better than other ev. but whatever). I refuse to pursue religion with my kids. They watch me in my pagan practices but until they ask questions or find some interest in what I do, I won't expose them to any religion.
Exactly! Cult mentality used to control minds and give away their money.
The opiate of the masses.
evangelicals thumbing their noses at catholics will never not be hilarious to me. like… i’m sorry, but y’all were born again yesterday, refuse to study even the scant history you have, and mostly hinge your theology on individual charisma. the other guys are literally the OG. it’s embarrassing.
What is OG?
OG = "original gangsta," meaning the originator or the one that came first. It can also mean exceptional, great, or old school. The term is generally admiring, and the connotation is a positive one. For example: "Napster is the OG digital music app."
Ty
You are very welcome.
They should know since they’re all going to hell! I’m sure Francis is praying for them in heaven
I'm sure he is not, but I do applaud and agree with the sentiment. And by "sure", I don't mean I'm guessing.
Yeah, acceptance and compassion for others are lowest on their lists. But they can hold a donut as they raise their hands high! Hallelujah
Evangelicals are “still born” christians, not “born again” christians. Dead from the rear end up
Absolutely true. I was raised in a "born again" household, with churchgoers speaking in tongues and all that. And it was drilled into me that Catholics were heretics. I feel incredibly lucky to have escaped that garbage, for as we know, many are locked into it for life.
Busy being the heretics they warned you about.
Hell, I grew up Catholic and had Lutherans next door that considered Catholics "non-Christians."
My idea of god is the true god you heathens.
I was raised in the Catholic Church and the local Evangelicals were unafraid to tell us there was a special place in Hell for us.
I hope it's true
Hmm. Interesting. And weird. As an atheist, it's all the same to me. 👀💭
You can just "smell" the love of Christ!
That’s true, I was raised in one of those devil churches and that is definitely what they preach.
Not only think. They hope for it, pray for it, and revel in their worship of a deity who wants "others" to suffer. The very definition of what evil is.
Strange how a true man of God threatens the very core of their so-called "Christian" beliefs...🤔
I tried to explain that once on Twitter. Got banned for life.
The front row seats in helk are ready for the evangelicals
Ha! I guess you have to believe there is a hell to give a shit about it. 🙄
Today's evangelicals suck, but so do generalizations. I was born in 1970, confirmed in a Lutheran, evangelical church, went to private school to grade 9, and was never told to hate catholics. We studied the differences and acknowledged them. My pastor didn't politic, and I think the pope was good.
I had no idea. The more you know.
Fuck religion. It’s just control: full stop.
Yup.
I was a graphic designer at a large Christian book publisher publisher in the early 2000s. Was told frequently by coworkers that I (raised Catholic) was going to hell unless I developed a “personal relationship with Jesus”. Those “Christians” were some of the worst people I’ve ever known.
"Personal relationship wifh Jesus" when I was told that the first time I laughed for 5 minutes muted in an Xbox chat party. "So Jesus is like Snuffleupagus on sesame street. The imaginary friend you hope is willed into existence?"
I have never met a worse class of person than American Evangelicals. They are without a doubt the least pleasant people to be around, both individually and as a group. I cannot think of any PERSON who was more responsible for my loss of faith as an adult.
Totally agree...Evangelicals are the whiniest, and most insufferable group of people ever.
Humm you should try catholic priests...
I believe their holy book would say they haven’t even entered the kingdom of heaven and so they keep others out. Except they think it is referring to everyone else but them. The phrase two-fold sons of hell rings a bell.
I like to call them god botherers
God breathers sounds good as well.
That's a classic term I've not heard in a while. And it is ALWAYS fitting.
I don’t bother him, he doesn’t bother me.
Let us pray about that lack in your life, brother. Everyone join hands and bow your heads. We're about to conjure up, I mean, uh, implore the lord almighty to reveal himself unto thee. The tithe basket is near the door, and the lord rewards those who reward me! I mean, Honor Him!
PRAISE BE!
Kurt Andersen writes about how they and American character in general evolved in Fantasy Land. Great book. www.amazon.com/Fantasyland-...
I'll look for it. Thank you.
Same… My dad worked at the church. He was fired because his best friend, the pastor, was cheating on his wife with the deaf interpreter. The associate pastor, who hated my dad, blackmailed the pastor to fire my dad. Oh, and later the assoc paster was fired for embezzling. Sadly, not uncommon 🤦🏻♀️
If none of those stories (and yes, I've heard plenty of them) were real, I would still have a problem with Evangelicals and their self-righteous cruelty. But yeah, the hypocrisy is strong with them too. I left faith completely for personal reasons. But there's just so little GOOD that comes from it.
So true, this could have been a thread about cruelty as well. I left the church 20 years ago and whenever I hear “church speak” or “pastor tone” I still cringe.
"And they'll know we are Christians by our love..."
It’s essentially a license to be judgemental and so normal ppl are put off and the church attracts ppl who enjoy being mean spirited and awful, with the flimsiest ‘religious’ pretext. If you challenge them they explode like a typical narcissist in meltdown. Common to all is a lack of empathy
As with Republicans, the cruelty is the point.
Exactly. Nothing will make you leave religion faster than these ppl
Speaking as a deconstructed Christian who later lost all faith in faith I would never want anyone to lose their god because of people. Even though their apologetics are atrocious, for me it should always be a personal relationship, even if it's just parasocial. But some really do make it easy to go.
This new song from Logan Simmons of TIje Band Loula sums up how I feel about “evangelical” Christians. youtu.be/9mxEWngfXNI?...
summer '05, after biking 5 miles in good time someone told me I "needed Jesus" as I'm walking into a store. The look on their face when I pulled out my Razr and called my buddy was already gold, but ending that interaction with "I've got him on speed dial, how about you?" made them go nuclear. 🤣
I believe in a personal relationship w/Jesus& God 4myself;still evolving.never agreed w/the tradition that you needed an intermediary for this &that I was somehow not worthy.Plus the history w/the Catholic Church is so disturbing. But there is also beauty. How can one be wrong 4 Divine Love practice?
I've met some along my way.
I was raised in an evangelical church. We were also taught that quite often. I have sense discovered this is false.
I figured it out by the age of 9.
Same. Most judgemental, hypocritical, and vile people I have ever met.
Same time I was finishing my undergrad and had fellow students frantic over the required intro to religion course. "Xtian" homeschooled young woman so distraught that she was allowed to sit in the hallways during lectures and debates that conflicted with her "beliefs."
Yep, fuckin' idiots and hypocrites. justweighing.com/blogs/politi...
Yep. The sickness in the evangelical church is rampant.
Omg! Pathetic!!
Grew up in those churches and heard Catholicism called a “cult” by some. Fortunately my parents, including my minister dad, did not believe that at all.
Nah, they are busy grooming children to marry.
What I do know is Jesus never read a Bible. We are all equipped with a moral compass
I was raised Catholic. I now am Protestant. In Bible studies I've heard Evangelicals say that Catholics aren't Christians. There are nonBiblical things that Catholicism added to itself (ex: Mary never sinned and is Queen of Heaven). But Catholics certainly are Christian.
Read their Creed. They know we are all sinners in need of a savior and that the only Savior is Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. And that we are saved by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. My family and many friends are Catholic. They don't believe in most of the unbiblical stuff.
I don’t think a lot of people understand the level of deception and brainwashing that goes on in evangelical churches. We were taught that the pope was Satan and all Catholics go to Hell because they pray to Saints and don’t believe in the priesthood of the believer.
Oh we definitely know full well just how much the Evangelicals hate us. We just couldn’t be bothered with it.
"They pray to statues" "We pray directly to the Lord" "No Interceding" Then comes the good old: "Can I pray for you about that?" 🤪
My middle school/high school/church/youth group/etc were all the same building. About 110 students and about 20 faculty. 2 youth pastors were pedophiles, my first principle quit in the middle of the night and shredded dozens of trash bags of docs, and my 2nd principle was also a repeat pedophile.
And the first pastor was cheating on his wife with people he was marriage counseling.
Well I have to agree with that because it says in the Bible that you cannot come to the Lord but by the Son if he did not SPECIFICALLY ask the Lord to Forgive his Sins and accept him as Savior YES he will Priest cannot absolve you Priest Nor Mary Can get you into Heaven only by way of the Christ
And there is No Purgatory the scripture says absent from the body present with the Lord. PERIOD The Judgment for Everyone on that Day and then....... Well
Wasn't raised in a Evangelical Church (Baptist) but I'm a Bible Believing God-Fearing person and it states clearly in the Bible in the scriptures I posted
Also the Cross and Christ Atoning Death we're so that you Don't have to ask A Priest for intercession anymore
I suddenly want Koolaid
Thank you‼️👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻
Ha!! It always makes me laugh that "those" Christians don't know they are actually Catholic. Every single Christian denomination roots from the Catholic church. Hating on their ancestor church is hilarious.
I continue to find people who simply don’t believe this. They look at me like I’m making it up. Yet I’ve been subjected to this nonsense from evangelicals for decades. I’m a lapsed Catholic so it doesn’t matter, but to be hateful to this pope?!
Nope. Didn’t know that. Another vile fact about Evangelicals.
Trump says the Cardinals should select the Pope based on the highest bidder. He offers Canada, Greenland and two Tesla Cybertrucks as his starting bid.
Very aware of that. I try to remind my LDS friends of the same thing regarding how evangelicals feel about them.
It seems like every Christian is convinced they’re the only one doing Christianity correctly.
Hell, the far right of Catholicism probably agrees.
Oh, yeah, they do. Nasty muther fuckers.
I was not, yet I know they what they preach and believe. Their pastors are vile preaching hate and shit of that nature.
I don't have a dog in that fight (I'm not a Christian), but I know this because of the significant number of people who've expressed it to me over the years without my asking. I live in Missouri, though this "belief" is not exclusive to the state.
What?? For real??
Yeah, Southern Baptists are very pro-hell
I was raised Catholic and have lived surrounded by evangelicals for years. So I find it surprising that given their animosity and hatred of Catholics, evangelicals have joined forces in this administration with so many prominent catholics. IMO they’ll be at each other’s throats before too long
I'm looking forward to that tussle. (this is just a menial sin)
Not out of loyalty but from experience, I attended Catholic all girls school with Opus Dei leanings, I can tell you that I expect Catholics to fully win in the tussle with evangelicals. Not only win but they will demand their total subjugation. Catholics, especially Opus Dei, play the LONG game
speaking of the long game, I don't think there's any older continuous bureaucracy than the Vatican (in Europe, anyway - I don't know enough about South Asia or Persia or China)
Right. The Vatican has been around since the 4th Century. Which is just one reason I say they’d win the tussle. They’ve been through worse and come out the other side with even greater power and riches. Evangelicals don’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell
I once made the mistake of saying something unfavorable about the wealth of the Catholic Church to a (generally nice) Jesuit on twitter. DO NOT START A BEEF WITH A JESUIT ON TWITTER.
"You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is 'Never get involved in a land war in Asia.'" And second is “do not start a beef with a Jesuit on twitter”
Yeah, my ‘born again’ uncle thought his Catholic mom was going to hell. They were otherwise very close.
My grandmother was Catholic and attended church with my baptist grandfather. She was told this for years. She caught hell from both religions. But she was a very good person who believed in a personal faith....not showy just personal.
Good thing I don't have to understand that either way. Life is much simpler when you know all that god shit is made-up. 🌊🇺🇸🇺🇦🌈🟧🌍💙
My Southern Baptist grandparents thoroughly believed Catholics were evil. She shopped with the Italian grocers because they would deliver, but she had to repent every Sunday for giving them her money. Not even kidding.
It’s the American way! We need to remember that the Pilgrims and the Puritans came to America seeking religious freedom *for THEMSELVES*, not anyone else. A few years later they were hanging Quakers on the Boston Common.
Yup they were extremists
Now I understand why my southern Baptist grandparents were so upset that my mother married a Catholic. (And then converted herself!)
My great-grandmother was S. Baptist. My grandfather, her son-in-law, was Catholic-lite. She constantly tried to convert EVERYONE. At her funeral, per her request, the paster offered anyone in attendance the chance to accept Jesus into their hearts. My grandfather bellowed, "We've heard it before!"
Gawd I hate the proselytizing at funerals, giving a whole ass sermon.
As someone who was raised Southern Baptist, this is actually not even restricted to religions out of the Southern Baptist circle. I lived across the street from an Episcopalian church and every time I said anything about it, my mom would call them weird “because they prayed out loud together”
What’s a paster?
It's a spelling error. Treat it like a puzzle. Have fun. Hint: Consider the context.
Yep, I was Catholic and 40 yrs ago married a man from a Christian family in a rural area in what is now a red state. Was shocked at how upset his family was that he was marrying a Catholic!! We are no longer affiliated w any religions, raised our kids to value kindness, service, and not to judge.
Us Catholics thought we were Christian’s too, until we were informed that it’s not the same.
Oh, and it’s not just evangelicals! Read a pamphlet from Jehovah’s Witnesses. Every single one mentions the evils of Catholicism. They stopped coming to my door after I laid them out, saying that denigrating other faiths doesn’t enhance theirs, it only shows how petty and insecure they are.
Wow! I had no idea
How many pp have died because someone thought their version of worshipping the SAME GOD was better? In history…trillions? All the holy wars…ironic isn’t it? Killing pp for a practice of LOVE. Pilgrims came to have freedom of religion. Then y are they the most judgemental and hateful? Let everybody be!
Wow. No idea.
A southern Baptist girl went around trying to convert Catholics when I was in high school 😒
So what makes southern Baptists think they aren't evil?
They believe that their way to believe in God is the right way
Talk about being egotistical,
Being raised in the south it amazes me how many people don't know that evangelicals hate, hate, hate Catholics and ran them out of town way back when.
Being raised in America, it amazes me how much folks are unaware of our own gd history. Anyone who paid attention history class should know these basic facts. Catholics were outcasts from the beginning. WASPs controlled everything for most of our history.
So it's no fluke or coincidence that only 2 of 47 presidents have been catholic? One had his head blown off. To this day, only 25% of Americans will admit to being catholic.
How many USA Potus were Wasp. Mostly Dutch German or Irish 🇮🇪🇪🇺
How many of those in the deep south. Are descendants from White Anglo Saxon Protestant. Not that many I dare ask. Most wouldn't be allowed within the vicinity of their fine 24 bedroom houses in Angerland. 🇮🇪🇪🇺
Closer to home - for me, anyway, Irish Catholics have had a pretty tough time.
Referred to them as Papists.
Idol Worshipping satanic cult in my Pentacostal church. They were actually sorry though that only 144,000 of the Jews were going to escape hell. We often prayed that the Jews would accept Jesus into their heart because they couldn't be sure they were going to be one of the "chosen Jews"
I knew this but I thought it was way back, like 1900... Not the 70s, 80s, 90s. And I didn't realize the hate was so intense.
And how Puritans regularly murdered Quakers or Episcopals if they wandered into town.
WASPS?
White Anglo Saxon Protestant.
Thank you. I heard that word (growing up) as a slur for a particular demographic.
Interesting. I never heard it used as a slur, it was just a descriptor for a large portion of the population.
My dad was in the Air Force in the late 1950s-he repeated a lot of the slurs he learned.
It doesn't stop with Catholics. Our neighbors were Mormons.
Catholic Church is growing in the South.
I wouldn’t know this (grew up agnostic in CA) but I read Stephen King 🤷🏼♀️ he talks a lot about many a bigotry
Also The Bell Jar
Along with Blacks and Jews, Roman Catholics were KKK targets for hate and elimination. Most have forgotten how controversial it was that President Kennedy was Roman Catholic. People in the south feared he would just be a puppet for the Pope. Evangelical stupidity is that bad.
They were targeted by the KKK.
This blows my mind. I was raised Catholic in CA, even though my parents weren't very religious. Had friends who were from all sorts of religious backgrounds- Episcopalian, Presbyterian, Mormon, Jehovah's Witness, Jewish, no religion, etc. Not a big deal for anyone from what I recall.
The KKK is also quite anti- Catholic, but then again, they are anti-everyone.
We even had Jack Chick pamphlets distributed in our little Iowa town 30 years ago. Those are a real trip!
Those evil POS' gave me nightmares! What a POS Jack Chic was to distribute such trash to children and adults. Had many given as tips.🙄 JFC!! I am soooo atheist now, I hate religion everyday all day!! 🙌🙌💯💯 Tax the churches!!
Well let us just hope that they are not relishing the thought.
Protestant fundamentalists have taken the worst lie from Roman Catholic doctrine--eternal damnation--and added their own idolatrous fixation on the Bible interpreted literally. The result is unparalleled toxicity and hatemongering.
Are these the emojis for the particular Evangelicals you're thinking of right now? 💃🕺
As a catholic in the south, I'm called a heathen. But without the Catholic church, none of these "Christian" religions would exist. Catholics are the original Christian church.
More of those "good people" the orange felon loves so much.
My Alabama grandaddy was a Southern Baptist preacher and probably spun in his grave when I became Catholic at the age of 20, back in the 70’s.
I was raised Catholic. In high school I had a girlfriend and one Sunday I went with her to the Lutheran church she and her family belonged to. First time I ever heard a pastor rail on to a congregation about the evil sinful Catholics. Yes, after church was awkward.
WTF!
As an ex catholic I knew this. I'm done with patriarchal religions.
I’m well aware. So much ridiculous man made propaganda.
Sorry Jess. Evangelicals do not "think." Rather, they recite the lies of their pastors.
Ain’t no hate like that, particularly spiteful, ‘Christian’ hate 🤦🏾♀️
There is no hate greater than Christian love.
I always found that odd, that Catholics were viewed a heathen idol worshippers. My son invited one of his classmates to his first communion and the Mother told me her daughter could never go into a Catholic church. How the evangelicals bonded with the Catholics in Magaland is fascinating to me.
Talibangelical Xians have never been quiet or subtle about their views about Popes in general and the last one specifically.
That explains a lot on their views of Trump!
So ridiculous...but you go ahead with your Christian "rules"
In the UK we have the Ulster Unionists who still act like we're in 17th Century Britain.
I tend to believe most of them are... This one? No fucking way He's not going to hell despite being Pope.
Oh ya. The tone is scary.
Southern evangelical "Christian" is basically a home-grown American religion. It hijacks the brand known as "Jesus Christ" and makes up its own catechism and morality. When called out as a fraud, they cry that all Christians are being attacked. It works, and now you have a president who does that.
I don't follow a fake "Christian" or their entitled superiority. If they truly followed the Bible, they would be knowledgeable that there are more than one religion in it, all of which thought they were rightful. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
But Marge and the Pussy Grabber will be rolling with JC.
My goodness… why? Now I’m not an expert in religion here, the pope could’ve done a lot more with the current social issues that we have on hand, but he was a good kind man. A man of God. And these so-called Christians think he’s burning in hell…? Evangelicals, go sit the fu*k down.
When I was a kid in the 50’s we were taught if we even entered a Roman Catholic Church the floor might open up and shoot us straight to hell. They have found a common cause in abortion control. An issue invented by old impotent men not mentioned in either book of the Bible.
What I don't understand is all the hate in the name of Jesus. Doesn't seem like something he would approve of.
I was told as a child that Catholics worshiped Satan without knowing it. Absolutely Bullshit. Evangelicals have no place in government. Nobody in a death cult should be in government.
Yep. nashvillebanner.com/2025/04/22/c...
Yep. I was an evangelical Christian for many years - we were taught that the Catholic Church was the “whore of Babylon” of Revelation prophecy. 😑
This thread is awesome. Reference after reference of Talibangelical churches that pedophile their own kids at churches around the nation, on the daily. It's not drag queens and trans folks, it's preachers and church leaders. Why do we keep putting up with it?
I’m surprised at the number of non-Roman-Catholics who care what happens to the Pope and Papacy. It’s like the American infatuation with the British Crown.
There are some conservative Catholics who believe the same thing. My neighbor, who's a "Catholic" MAGA actually said she hopes the new pope isn't as liberal as this one was. I told her I didn't see anything liberal about loving your neighbor, helping the poor, and welcoming those facing injustice.
Blows my mind being raised Roman Catholic and dealing with the new brand of conservative American Catholics. We were taught about being humble, generous, kind, and loving people regardless of their background. My Catholic school had tons of immigrants. All of this is because of abortion. 100%
Good on you for challenging her narrow mindedness!
I left my previous parish because of MAGA “Catholics” like this.
I'm so happy at my church. We've been very blessed to have great priests who have supported social issues and have spoken about Jesus' teachings of compassion and love. I've heard of conservative priests in other parishes, so I'm afraid to leave my parish even though I'm 35 minutes away now.
You found a good church.
