Min wage in WA is linked to inflation, so tariff increases should lead directly to minwage increase. Any state that doesn't link minwage to inflation is constantly lowering the purchasing power of their minimum wage.

It's funny how the prices of goods doesn't vary as much as critics said it would if people got paid *almost* a living wage. Take CO (my home) vs WY (our neighbors) - people earn TWICE as much in CO but the cost of living is only 5% higher here. You don't want to be poor in Wyoming vs Colorado.

There's a ton more useful context in the American Communities Project County-types map of the US (something I use for work) This somewhat contextualizes why the Midwest and West differ in cost of living.
Just to clarify: I'vedone land-use studies and historic/archaeological research. Thurston County is very much a residential suburb of northern counties on Puget Sound but the State Capital is here, and two four year colleges. Slapping the label of "military base"casts doubt on the whole map.
Those counties were not assigned labels based on some person's opinion, but as a result of clustering model using 36 socioeconomic county-level indicators. The presence of a base is not definitive, but part of the overall pattern that determines how that economy behaves in others things.
I didn't build the model but I found it to be somewhat useful as a proxy for combining dozens of factors in other analyses. Look up the American Communities Project and you'll find their methods are well documented.
Importantly, at least one critical economic activity has been excluded: tourism and recreation. A lot of what is labelled as "retirement" is actually multi-age recreation and tourism.
I know which county would shut down completely if 47 decides to demilitarize JBLM: not Thurston. I'm aware of the dangers of chosing the wrong indicators to plug in to a clustering model, and the further west you go on that map the worse it gets; possibly because the west has bigger counties.
EXCEPT: the classification of Thurston County, WA as "military base" and TPierce County WA as anything other than Military Bases, when all Thurston County has is rural training areas while airfields, logistics, headquarters, and most military population are in Pierce is perplexing.

Minimum wage being a specific number really doesn't make sense, given the variation in local economies. It should be a formula, based on 3-4x the local real estate market (median rent of a 2BR apartment, say) to start with and then indexed to inflation. The only question is how to define "local".
That's why we have two in Oregon. $14.70 is for the people in the most densely populated counties where the coast of living is higher. $13.70 for rural areas.
We don't have any sales tax either.

as a (former) small business owner, it was always the opposite. In NJ min wage is $15.50, I owned an ice cream shop. I would have LOVED to pay more bc I believe in a living wage, but margins were so thin I could not. Cost of goods though: I would have loved to have seen go down. I just dont get it.

I think it comes down to whom they think deserves it. In their minds, paying tariffs restores manufacturing jobs, which in the minds of public memory are white jobs. Raising the minimum wage threatens small businesses, in their heads.
I’ve had conversations and it genuinely comes down to the belief that raising the minimum wage would destroy mom-and-pop stores. I’ve had a coworker complain about housing costs, and when I said the state senate passed a minimum wage increase, he was like “that will cause this store to go under.”
I mean, it did go under, but that was likely due to the owner deciding to open another store despite being $40k in debt, and them complaining about having a revolving door of employees even though the owner’s mom would literally complain about minimum wage increases IN FRONT of said employees.

He is stupid, and stupid people love him. The intelligent people are using that to their advantage. I think that's why the Democrats haven't really pushed impeachment. The man baby would continue the plan and so would the speaker or that Vougt dude from P25 would install another puppet as vp.
A lot of "political expert" types on the internet never grasped that part of Trump's appeal. He may himself like fast food, but what he shows of that on TV is all an act to attract those non-voters. They think he must be just like him, eating the same stuff they do.
