I worked full-time at Walmart in the 90s. I qualified for Medicaid.
I worked full-time at Walmart in the 90s. I qualified for Medicaid.
Walmart has done nothing positive for Americans.
Are the owners not American? So it did at least do, A LOT, for those Americans.
If you’re saying the only Americans who benefited from Walmart are the company owners, that is correct.
That is what I am saying.
🎯 👍🏽 👍🏽 👍🏽
I just had to take my kid to Urgent Care for the first time since going on Medicaid. With the number of hoops I've had to jump through to apply through the county health board, set us up through the Medicaid system, and fill out forms at the doctor's office, I don't believe fraud is even possible.
And yes, I'm employed.
People are taxed to death and can’t afford to live in this country. No affordable housing, healthcare or wages. They have set the system up to make you depend on welfare.
While the owners skimmed off massive wealth for themselves from the value of worker labor. Both in US and abroad.
But strangely enough, outside the US, American companies have to pay regular wages, provide their part for the universal healthcare system, give the mandatory month paid vacation, unlimited, paid, sick days, 1-2 years maternity break ect. Normal working conditions. Only inside the US they do not.
So did I..
And that's why I won't shop at Walmart. They barely pay their employees enough to reach the poverty level while the Walton family are billionaires.
Walmart made Billions by not paying people a living wage and had the tax payer pick up the slack
He's made it easier for billionaires to make more money but mad that they don't want to take a hit to their fortunes. He's an idiot and they're all just greedy assholes. He certainly hasn't done anything to help his employees and wouldn't if he were in WM's shoes. Full stop.
That's how it is with these billionaires. I worked for Walmart in the late 90s & early 2000s & certainly could NOT afford the insurance offerings they had available or I would have been working just to pay for them. Dump being mad at WM for not "eating" the tarrifs he's imposing is another laugh.
That was their business plan.
Most Walmart employees still do. It's a shame considering what they bring in for investors.
Most employees still do. Sort of shots down the repugs saying everyone needs to work to stay off of Medicaid! They are so full of crap- so is Walmart for that matter!
From our own Government Accountability Office in 2020 🤦♀️ www.gao.gov/products/gao...
Yup. I worked the register in the Automotive department full time back in 95/96. Shit wages and benefits.
Medicaid cuts costs for all of us. Those who pay pay for those who don't. Every dollar cut from Medicaid is spread out to everybody with an insurance premiums. Using the tax system spreads out and thins that burden. Cutting Medicaid increases it.
These corporations have been robbing wage earners and leeching off our taxes for literal decades. We all know it.
Health is a human right—not a budget line item to be crossed off 🤝🏥❤️ bsky.app/profile/that...
By allowing the minimum wage to stay this low for so long meant in reality taxpayers had to make up the difference just so minimum wage workers can stay alive.
Walmart = the REAL welfare whores.
Those wages are pretty incorrect now they start out their cashiers and front end workers and everybody else in the store at $18 an hour. I now work for another store and I make almost 20 and I only work part time because I want to. I also live in California, which doesn’t tax Social Security.
At least in Canada our minimum wage is much higher and we have healthcare, but there should be laws against what they do and trump wants to give them an even bigger tax break!!!
Walmart: making the taxpayer pay for their employees healthcare.
Health services shouldn’t be tied to the employer. The employer should pay a living wage to enable its works to buy off ACA (as long as it still exists).
That’s one option.
The Walmart Story: youtu.be/RXmnBbUjsPs?...
A friend’s son got a job at this Walmart. His Welcome Packet included instructions on how to apply for Medicaid and food assistance.
My husband worked for them and they would overwork his scheduled hours due to need only to send him home early later in the week to ensure he did not reach eligibility for medical coverage.
Same at Amazon. SNAP too.
So the pay was crap, & they provided no insurance; sounds about like their business plan.
My college daughter works there and also qualifies for Medicaid and SNAP. She wouldn’t make it without them.
I worked full-time for the State of California in the ‘70’s. My job was classified as ‘sub-clerical’. I qualified for food stamps.
Seems to me that Walmart owes the Government some serious cash.
Most employees at Walmart do!
Over 60 percent of Medicaid recipients are working Americans. Another roughly third of the entire pool of beneficiaries are disabled, children, seniors, or caretakers of our most vulnerable.
I remember hearing they’d give you applications for good assistance when you got a job there.
Food food assistance
My daughter worked for a similar low-cost employer in the early 2000s and her employee welcome packet had instructions on how to apply for food assistance and Medicaid!
yep. That is part of Walmart’s business plan. Low wages, no benefits, let Medicaid pick up that.
Now that they’ve wiped out the small competitors, all employees have BCBS. Don’t know when the switch occurred, but when i was private practice, only the managers had private insurance. Everyone else was medicaid. Up until prob 2010ish
Walmart is the welfare queen they warned us about.
Yes!!!!
And Republicans blame you, instead of blaming Walmart for subsidizing their profits from the public coffers.
Walmart donates substantially to the Republican Party…and tries to sway your voting if you are in a leadership position!
So are you saying that they’re trying to codify the worst part of the system that underpays people to enable them to take advantage of government systems, instead of making the companies pay a proper wage or offer benefits while allowing the government to provide for those unable to work?
The government should be paying for health insurance rather than companies healthcare from a company forces you to stay with the company. Sweden has more entrepreneurship than any other country. A strong social net supports small entrepreneurs.
Health insurance should be gone and the government should be the “insurance provider”. Insurance companies are a drag on society and have WAY too much decision-making power over our health. No for-profit entity should be allowed to overrule a decision made by you and your doctor.
Agree with this …
Same and then tried it again in the late 2000’s and it had gotten SO much worse
These are the "good jobs" that trickle-down economics helps to create
Iirc Walmart’s HR advised employees on how to get Medicaid, food stamps and other forms of public assistance. Just another form of corporate welfare.
Many military personnel with families are on Medicare and SNAP.
😭
We all need to realize that we taxpayers subsidized the accumulation of many of today’s billionaires wealth. Walmart employees had to use our social safety net bc they were too cheap to pay them a living wage. How nice to have someone else pay for your employees’ health care.
Yeah, I'm wondering what the Waltons will do now about that. Will they actually pay a living wage and provide good benefits? (Of course not!)
Same as all of us in junior management positions at JCPenney.
And that's around the time I started my personal boycott of Walmart, and for that reason. I found out their business plan included keeping their employees eligible for public support. They built their stores in areas that people would accept low wages and they would get tax breaks for being there.
Yep, on year 40+ boycotting corporate greet for no public good. Ever since they killed my hometown.
And those employees that collect benefits like SNAP also spend those benefits at Wal Mart. It guarantees tax breaks and revenue for Wal Mart. They're shit and I don't go there unless they have something I absolutely can't find anywhere else and that's rare.
I don't even look. If I see something I'd like that's a "Walmart exclusive", oh well, not getting. But I do appreciate that i have the luxury of options. Many don't after they killed the local small stores.
I refuse to shop at WalMart and Sam’s. I saw how they treated their employees. Then I saw how they treated the companies they buy product from. Wait out paying them. I’ve seen lots of small businesses thrilled to get in there and have banks turn them down to finance it because lenders know.
They will make companies reliant on them and take their knees out.
You still would now.
All through the '80s, several of the young couples I taught with were on food stamps.
i worked for Sears as a key-holder (low level management) and also qualified for Medicaid. when I retired, I lost the qualification of just my social security income, go figure that one
That is just wrong. And not on your end… on Walmart’s end.
In 2015, the state of Missouri had a minimum wage of 7.65..it's going up to 13.75..is that Walmart's fault or the fault of the politicians of Missouri and the people who support them???
Sad set of affairs 🤨. How is it these billionaires got/get by with this crap 🤬
That’s how the Walmart family became some of the richest people in the world; by massively underpaying for labor forcing the taxpayers to subsidize their workers. Anyone who doesn’t support a huge raise in the minimum wage is not serious about restoring Democracy.
Exactly.
Walmart - the true welfare queens
You could realistically fund universal healthcare in the U.S. with: 6% payroll tax (all workers, no income cap) 6% corporate profits tax Top income tax rate of 50% 5% federal sales tax Administrative savings (~25%) (Medical like provider payments and administration costs)
According to a Google search Walmart and McDonald's are the largest employers to have their employees on public assistance. I don't know if this number is accurate but, a few articles I read said 60% of their employees are on assistance. But hey his grand daughter got a new yacht last year!
Amazon, Kroger, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Burger King, FedEx, and Uber were also identified as having large numbers of employees on public assistance. losalamosreporter.com/2024/01/29/r...
Thank you for the info. I couldn’t find much in my search.
I knew about Walmart but not McDonald’s. Now I’m wondering how many of our biggest and most profitable companies do the same thing. 🤬
A lot! Not many companies pay a livable wage!
Disgusting
Yes, it is. They don't care!
They have totally fucked our country and its companies. The only choice going forward will be Universal Health Care.
Walmart's employees are the largest recipients of Food Stamps today for the same reason you qualified for Medicaid in the '90s. The never have and never will pay a living wage, corporate scum. This is why I don't shop there.
Walmart isn’t the only company that takes advantage Home Depot, McDonald’s, School Bus Contractors, etc dirty Little dirty secret..they tell them we would offer you a raise but then you will lose benefits…..
Walmart et al. have always underpaid their workers so that the workers needed "welfare" and then berated them as freeloaders.
Corporate welfare. They're able to pay slave wages cuz the govt picks up the tab, covering costs that would otherwise force employees to work elsewhere.
I was a public school teacher in WV in the early 90s. I qualified for food stamps and my children qualified for free/ reduced school lunch. Had I not had insurance through my employer, I would have also qualified for Medicaid. There are many working poor.
That is disgusting I’m assuming you had at least a BA in education, hopefully they have corrected this since the 90s
I had a BA and was working on my masters. In WV they haven't raised teachers salaries all that much, but it's a bit better. A single person would have trouble buying a home or renting in a nice area. Once I had my masters, it only raised my salary by $600 per year!
Thank goodness Teachers salaries have improved in most provinces in Canada over the years!
I hope you still don’t qualify for it. I don’t understand why the Republicans always try to hurt the poorest of our nation who are the ones who support this country I do hope that your financial situation has gotten better.
Healthcare for all. Canada speaking. Why does your country treat medical support as a privilege for the wealthy? Why? We don’t get it. And neither does much of the rest of the free world. What are you afraid of with free healthcare. So sad
Why tf do big corporations get away with this!?
In Texas ..Walmart was doing a food drive during Thanksgiving.. For Their Workers.. I couldn’t believe it
Thereby placing the money that the Walton family should have paid for your health care into their family's pockets. Socialism for the rich, fuck the poor.
And food stamps if i am correct
They have the most disgusting labor practices.
I worked for a liquor distributor in the early 00s and I remember seeing signs in the back room of Walmarts that told employees how to apply for Medicaid.
I have a friend in Cali who took on 3 kids after their father was killed. That, plus her own child. She brought them to finishing high school, they are active wrestlers and football prospects. She works 7days a week, 2 jobs. She's losing everything... Something has to give..for her family's sake.
Trump & MAGA want to gut Medicaid, which pays over half of nursing home costs in the USA. 62% of seniors utilize Medicare. Do we dump those old folks on the streets? And you think we have a homeless problem now? You ain't seen nothing yet.
Medicaid is income based, so most people who make close to min qualify.
I’ve long said all full time jobs must as a minimum pay enough for all basic needs on a 40 hr workweek. Overtime should be bonus money not making ends meet. If the business cannot pay enough to do so, executives cannot earn more than median and no dividends permitted to be paid.
My 6th year of teaching in MO qualified me 4 free lunch for our children-12,500 my first year 82-teacher who worked 4 25 years only made @ 100 a month more Now Texas designates 1 billion for school vouchers. So to compensate, hire people who are NOT certified teachers to fill in. Drive away teachers
In 2008 there were teacher’s kids receiving reduced $ lunches when I taught in FL. I’m not sure of the specifics of their situation but still.
What's Walmart going to do when Medicaid's gone? Pay their employees more? Sure. 🙄 #AuditIncelNAZIElmo #DefundIncelNAZIElmo #DeportIncelNAZIElmo #JailtheOrangePustuleinCECOT #$ubprimeCourtReformsNOW
Walmart will do nothing. Why would they care if their employees do or do not receive Medicaid?
Exactly. That's the point I was making. #AuditIncelNAZIElmo #DefundIncelNAZIElmo #DeportIncelNAZIElmo #JailtheOrangePustuleinCECOT #$ubprimeCourtReformsNOW
😞
This. To MAGA, everyone should work, but low level jobs shouldn't pay a living wage even if you work full time.
Yes, corporations game the system, pay the politicians and reap billions.
Yes, taxpayers subsidize low wage workers bc corporations are more focused on max profits for shareholders than livable wages for employees. Rather than cutting Medicaid, lets set the top tax rate to a pre-Ronald Reagan rate of 33% & raise the fed min wage to 3X what is now which would be $21.75.
Let us remember to tax work and investment gains on equal footing. We have learned over the last half century that wealth allows way more than fancy living: Concentrated wealth leads to buying politicians, much to our detriment.
One message here is that Walmart doesn't pay a living wage or give their workers benefits. The true message is that healthcare shouldn't depend on the whims of a corporation.
That’s part of their algorithm/business plan. The Waltons are the Queens of the welfare queens.
I taught get for the public school system and qualified for a once a month trip to the food bank in our county.
A surprising number of working people qualify for Medicaid.
One of my teacher colleagues had four kids. He qualified for Medicaid based on his salary.
Maybe instead of making poor people suffer they should shame billion dollar corporations who pay poverty wages and force people to rely on the government.
Probably not in a few more weeks. And, believe it or not, it's not because Congress will pass a living wage bill.
My granddaughter works there now, 30 years after you did. Her son is on Medicaid, for now.
THIS👇 Corporate Greed!
Was reading about functional employment. Holy shit that paints a very true www.lisep.org/content/func...
🍄 My sibling, a jagillionaire lost their job in 2012 and qualified for Medicaid..
do any Republicans NOT know that the majority of adult Medicaid recipient do work?
That was the business model Go somewhere else if you want benefits
You've voted Republican, haven't you?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on your way out
Well, you were lucky, cuz now in 2025, you'd be uninsured. 😢
I’m not lazy and I’m not trying to game the system and I absolutely *hate* being on government aid. The narrative that people are gleefully taking money from the government while sitting on their asses is complete bullshit.
This was a lie from the beginning. They want us to condemn those on assistance for being lazy. In fact, they make it difficult for anyone to move up the ladder, but it's incredibly easy to fall into poverty.
They keep repeating the same shit and people who are ignorant believe it
Except as applies to the corporations.
I was on assistance off and on raising my kids. I couldn't stand being on it either. The narrative of undocumented people being on it is horse 💩, too. Anyone who has gone thru the trouble to apply would know that. They want proof of everything. 🤦♀️
Your situation is exactly who it’s meant for. I’m here to contribute to people needing help.
I hope someday to be able to help others in the same way that I’ve been helped. <3 :)
Well, liars like Faux News don't want to hear from you or talk to you. They've been busy convincing the gullible public that illegals and lazy people are sucking up hard-working American's tax dollars, so it's all your fault we have a deficit, right?
So true! And I always have the worry in the back of my head that they are going to deny me for some reason and I’ll be screwed. It’s not a fun way to live and not one I would choose (if I had a choice).
I was always worried too. Every 3 months having to turn in all paystubs, explain if and why my income changed... I had a crazy ex and 3 kids... I did what I had to. For 3 years I went through so many jobs, not by choice. It got better, I hope your situation gets better too!
Being on assistance is hard work. I mean, they make you jump through hoops and nothing is ever easy.
Very true. It is essentially another full time job trying to keep up. You learn early on that you can't mail back any documents requested. Everything must be turned in by hand with a receipt request because it will get lost. Monthly paperwork to show proof of work or school. Self employed =nightmare
It’s almost another full time job just to stay on top off all of it. I consider myself a very organized person and it still took an inordinate amount of energy. :/
I did Job Readiness Trainings for the First to Work program. Employers of low wage workers built this system-it’s a business model. The cash programs, SNAP & healthcare are paid by taxpayers. The people in this system work their asses off & then document everything they do. The corps makes millions.
Yep. It’s easy to fall down the income ladder and virtually impossible to work your way up. Especially when you have a disability. Ugh.
Right on. They are very inept. Sorry.
True! So much paperwork, proof, documentation required. I know people who legitimately are unable to work and need help just to navigate programs. It’s exhausting and time consuming.
Actually it is extremely difficult to qualify for SSI.. and there are a lot of restrictions on it too.. they really check you out on the initial.. and it is really gonna be hard when they aren’t processing many people right now
Oh, the hoops people have to go through to qualify are daunting. I think it’s funny when those who claim that SO many people are abusing programs/safety nets aren’t realizing or taking into account the stringent requirements to qualify and the length of time the process takes.
When applying for SSI, they look for hard, scientifically gathered data points and medical evidence. It has to be written in a scientific manner.. I knew how to do it because i was a sped teacher but you aren’t going to get SSI if someone doesn’t want to work
Absolutely. and it’s not just difficult applying, renewing ever year is hell on earth. The social workers don’t make it easy for you either.
People who are lucky enough not to use public assistance programs do not understand how the default at each step is NO and only the most desperate tend to get to the YES at the end.
I hear that! My dad went through hell to get help after a stage 4 cancer diagnosis and was unable to work. Between my grandma and I we managed figuring it out. After he passed I had to pay the government back with what money he did have. So that hassle wasn't worth any of it.
So sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. That’s terrible. And I’m sure dealing with the gov’t only made it that much more difficult.
We lost him in 2017, what I've not been able to get over is the fact he paid into social security for his whole life, we were all adults when he died. The government never had to pay any of that SS to him, so why I had to pay the government the 2600 dollars he had left after his funeral costs is BS.
It's a small print addition that they also send a notice out for now that states anyone above a certain age who receives medicaid has to reimburse costs. There is an appeal/exception to it but you have to apply.
He had nothing already, had lost his house in a flood in 08.
He worked and paid into SS his whole life, and you had to pay gov’t? Ridiculous. And again, it made a difficult time for you even more difficult, as well as your family.
All corporations with staff qualifying for government assistance should be charged back the amount of that assistance. There's huge waste, fraud and abuse! Charge them the amount paid out plus interest and a penalty. If they couldn't get away with that fraud they'd pay a living wage.
I work full time for the county….. I qualify for Medicaid, food assistance, and housing assistance.
They probably had one of those “dead peasant” life insurance policies on you as well. But it never gets portrayed as taxpayers subsidizing all the businesses whose pay/benefits are so low.
Amazon and Tesla are 2 of the largest employers in my area they also have the highest number of people that still qualify for Snap and Medicaid.
Socialize the costs, privatize the profits.
I worked full time for a big box store in 2014 and still qualified for food stamps.
Let Republican House leader Johnson know that.😊
I was the personnel mgr at Walmart and I can promise you that out of 484 employees there were more on food stamps than not. Including me.... I got $23.00 a month!!! I got cancer and now receive $0.00 because apparently $1568.00 in MY social security is TOO much income... True story
Corporate welfare.
Exactly
I totally believe it. The idea that $16,000 is above the poverty line shows how bad things are. The poverty line has kept up with reality, like minimum wage.
To top it all off, I have a $1750.00 out of pocket. Have had out of pocket for 4 yrs now because when SS went up substantially Deathsantis didn't increase the income limit for Florida Medicaid. Now he is in trouble for $10 million to his wife Walmart Casey! Hmmmmmmmm
Walmart hands out food stamps applications in their hiring orientation packet. That should tell you that the American people are subsidizing Walmart workers. They need to raise their wages so we aren’t supplementing the billionaires bottom line.
At my orientation they didn't hand out assistance applications, but the HR person told the whole room full of us that if we needed help with our applications, bring them in and she'd help fill them out.
My Mother was raising three kids and was on food stamps in the 70s. My sister gets pissed when I reminded her of that because she is now MAGA. Sister also had 4 kids and used a lot government assistance as she didn’t work and had no husband to help support the kids. She doesn’t like to be reminded.
Walmart has been cost shifting for decades.
I’ve known this for years. This is what the democrats need to use as effective messaging. This point is something everyone understands. A large nationwide retailer purposely shafting their employees so you and I make up the difference. The employees and all of us lose and the company profits off it.
Most retail is like this.
I’ll be 70 in June. My husband and I have paid off mortgage. Savings. 401k and Medicare and Supplemental insurance. BUT one serious illness can easily wipe us out. Then we would have to rely on Medicaid. I hate republicans.
Not only that but the 401ks that were there to cover expenses are now losing money including bonds which are the safest measure to save money
I locked them up as soon as he stole the election.
Same. We currently support an adult son with mental illness on our meager Social Security income. He will not apply for permanent disability although he does receive healthcare through Medicaid. We're already on the brink of disaster. What is coming scares the hell out of me.
It’s crap. Cruelty is the point.
Thanking my lucky stars I live in Canada especially as I get older!
You should. Wish I lived in Canada. 💙
I hope you have a revocable trust & all your assets are owned by the trust. Probate is time consuming, lengthy, & costly.
It’s all squared away. But I’m not sure that me stating I’ll soon be 70, automatically put me to death, but okay.
I just lost my dad at 90. 70 is still young in my book.
That sux. In the 90s I made $8/hr at a drug store but I was in a union. I had health insurance and a 401K as a typical part time employee.
Should have worked fuller time?
The US "system" is nuts. You folks pay a ton in taxes and get so little back. Laws demanding the ten commandments posted in schools and tax breaks on pistol silencers? Where's the public good?
I worked full time at Comcast in the late 2000s, married with two young kids. I qualified for SNAP and WIC assistance.
Universal Healthcare for all.
Some things never change
This is just one reason I've boycotted Walmart for years.
I heard at one point in Ohio they had a staff person from Job and Family Services (e.g., welfare) housed there because so many people qualified for Medicaid and SNAP/food stamps. Another back door method Rs knowingly use tax payer dollars. They don’t mind taxes as long as it goes in their pockets .
I'm sorry 😐...my "retirement" gig is the local 🎯.
Yes, because so many of your relatives, friends, neighbors, and colleagues kept voting Republican and hating unions. They kept your income down. It wasn't an act of god.
That is why I won't shop there. Making millions on the backs of under paid workers.
And Walmart actually planned for this. They would work out just enough hours to qualify someone for public medicine but not enough to qualify for company medical. Did the same with the ACA.
Good thing the minimum wage has risen so much since then
It’s okay Jess, all the Walton kids are centi-billionaires and that’s what really matters.
When Rs talk about waste, fraud and abuse, they're saying all money spent on the poors is waste. Despite what he said, Trump will sign any big beautiful bill that lays waste to Medicaid under the pretense they're just getting rid of waste.
***Post this also on FB, Jess, where a more varied audience will see it. Repub. are constantly distorting who the population is that relies on Medicaid. Not lazy able bodied 20 year olds as Speaker Johnson is trying to con.
Able-bodied people in their twenties are the people who, faced with the paperwork, default to "I'm young and healthy and nothing bad will happen to me" and all we can do is hope they're right.
I guess, GOP succeeded in calling white black and vise versa. The undereducated masses just swallowed like it's gods manna. So, following the logic Walmart paid government to provide you with Medicaid. And you were a sucker leaching of the government. Even you worked full time. Upsidedown reality.
Why facts matter not lies from politicians..😔 From our Government Accountability Office- Nov 2020 Federal Social Safety Net Programs: Millions of Full-Time Workers Rely on Federal Health Care and Food Assistance Programs www.gao.gov/products/gao...
I qualified as a teacher when I was pregnant.
Wal-Mart was the example my mother used when teaching me about corporate welfare. She was dead on.
These people are a disgrace. I remember when Stan Kroenke used Walmart money to buy the Rams and move them out of St. Louis because he got a better deal in LA. Imagine having money like that, and a single mom with kids works at one of your discount dumps and can't pay her rent.
I worked part time for 20 years and I qualified for SNAP for all of those years for 2 people. Raise the minimum wage to $25.00 an hour and we will the numbers drop.
It's not an accident or coincidence. That's by design.
I was on Medicaid for a year in my 50’s after gaining my Masters degree because I had virtually no income. I didn’t ask for it, but appreciated the help as I started out anew.
Yup. If they actually gave a damn about the budget, they would end corporate welfare - not hurt the vulnerable. Bastards
As a “Political Protest” I have never entered, much less shopped at a Walmart. I doubt it makes a bit of difference, or even the Right kind of difference, but I have found that numbers of others have made the same decision. I do hope it doesn’t hurt Workers.
I worked with Jason Smith’s mother. She qualified for Medicaid, do you think he would vote for Medicaid expansion? No, not even for his mother.
‘Nuff said
And most of their employees still do
no one who works full time should be without health care food and shelter period as well as have a decent social security AND a pension NOT A STINKING 401K that the big banks, congres, gop or corrupt president can manipulate to steal peoples retirement funds.PERIOD
And SNAP? (Food stamps)
I worked full-time at Disney recently & qualified for Medicaid.
While the Walton family divvied up $20-30 billion in profits annually…
While the Waltons were banking 10-12 billion a year.
I asked my cashier at Walmart recently if they had health insurance and she said “yes.” But I doubt the part-timers get it.
Yeah, part-timers have access to health insurance it’s $36.10 per pay. And your offered it after 90 days.
It seems that tf the government is really concerned about Medicaid payments, they could think of better solutions all around. Like maybe they should raise the minimum wage so that tax dollars would not go to subsidizing companies such as Walmart who pay low wages.
I can’t look at a Walton without knowing that the basis for their great wealth has been made on the backs of hard working devoted employees to this huge chain, knowing that it’s more important to them to profit as much as they can without paying living wage to their FT employees.
For a brief period of time in 2009, I worked at J.C. Penny and management would tell employees to get on SNAP and Medicaid instead of paying a decent wage. That was when I realized corporate America was the problem, not the recipient of the aid.
I work two jobs, and live in a blue state that has expanded Medicaid. I do not qualify, however, my child with special needs and his sister do. I will be adding them to my insurance policy after this bill passes and incurring expenses beyond what would I make due to this bill.
Corporate welfare 101 and they encouraged and aided their employees.
Taxpayers are subsidizing Wall Street profits.
So we subsidize corporate employees to buy food from some of the very corporations that won't pay them enough to afford their food. Think of that circle.
I could be wrong and I'll check but I believe for years Walmart had the distinction of being the largest employer in the U.S. with the most staff on public assistance. Taxpayers are actually providing benefits (feeding/healthcare) that Walmart won't. They're not alone among corporations.
My friend worked full time as a teacher’s aide in 2009-2011. She qualified for Medicaid.
Walmart is single handedly the entity most responsible for needing the creation of obamacare. And i worked there 15 yrs
Jeebers…that speaks VOLUMES, not only about MalWart, but the state of this Nation. 😥
I knew workers in Social Services that qualified for Medicaid...well, up until the pay was raised to make a dollar more than the threshold.
You're right. Starting salaries for Masters Degree Social Workers are so low it's insulting.
And this is how it works people…
Hillary Clinton lawyered there in the 80s. She was a board member from 1986 to 1992. -and she remained silent on Walmart's labor practices-wiki. Corporate Democrats don’t represent people they represent money .
This is why I don't shop at Walmart. Haven't been in one of their stores in over 20 years.
The GOP healthcare plan is, if you can't afford it, die.
No doubt. It is documented in a widely available novel in addition to your first-hand experience. Thanks for having courage to speak out. "Millions of Americans work for poverty-level wages, ... how can anyone survive, let alone prosper, on $6 to $7 an hour?" www.goodreads.com/book/show/18...
I will not shop at Walmart. They ruined America.
I did too after I retired then they kicked me off HIP in ‘23 for no reason. Good thing I have original Medicare now.
Once you turn 65, they do remove you from HIP and put you on Medicare.
They removed me before I turned 65 which was last year
Simple message for Dems in 26&28: We will wind back the tax breaks for the rich and wealthy given by Trump & Republicans in 2017 and 2025. The money this brings in to the government we will use as follows 1… 2… 3… Choose the three most prioritized things to focus on for the next ten years.
So did many of the full time certified teachers I worked with.
A friend/fellow Special Olympics coach of mine (he and his wife receive DD services) works 3 jobs: garden center 4-10am daily, mows 12 people's lawns, and works for the university athletics doing security/ticketing. His wife works full time too. None of those jobs offer health insurance.
Lots and lots of people working retail in 2025 qualify for SNAP.
In the 1980s I would have gladly taken Medicaid if I had qualified. I worked 2-3 jobs just to get by raising 2 kids. None of those jobs would hire me full-time, so as to NOT pay me any benefits. I had no childcare assistance, no college degree, and we lived below the poverty line.
I remember in the early 90’s accepting a full time job for $12,000/yr. I had 2 children and couldn’t afford traditional daycare so had to rely on an overcrowded babysitter.
Zero benefits. My spouse had a manual job earning little over minimum wage. We counted every penny and failed at keeping our heads above water. I was on a payment plan at the pediatrician and never saw a Dr for myself.
I can relate. I never saw a doctor or dentist either. Everything I made went to support my kids. It was hell until the kids got in School and I could work full time at a job with health benefits. We are going backward as a nation.
I once took a job at McDonald' when I was between jobs and desperate. They paid a whopping $10/hr and if I wanted medical insurance, I had to cough up $250/month for it. No way could I afford that. The entire system is rigged to benefit the wealthy and screw everyone else.
In our state we used to routinely put out something called the "Walmart Report" that showed how many of their employees were on Medicaid, SNAP, or other assistance.
And it was in the 90s that I learned of this being common in that business and stopped shopping there. I’ve never looked back.
The Walmart Effect. Worth the read.
Don't forget McDonald's. "Walmart and McDonald's have a large number of employees who are also recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food stamps and Medicaid." Your tax dollars are supporting billionaire welfare queens.
Eat the rich
I worked for AZ Medicaid in a leadership position. MOST Walmart workers qualified for Medicaid. This means you were earning 135% below the federal poverty level. U qualified for SNAP food assistance. The working poor will be punished for working. These are trump voters. Do you feel richer now?
Best post of the week,
And SNAP too, I'll bet. (I worked retail in the early 90s.)
It's why I haven't shopped there in 30 years.
✔ 🎯
I register people in an ER so I deal with the insurance aspect. The majority of adults that are on Medicaid do, in fact, work.
So did I
Lots of Americans are in that same boat. I know a disabled woman. She’s 83 and has never worked because of her disability. She’s on Medicaid and SNAP. What happens to her when the “Big Beautiful Bill” goes into effect?
The American public subsidizes many public companies who do not pay a living wage while their CEOs become billionaires.
I worked a full-time job and also a part time job of 20hrs a week and still qualified.
2025 and no medicare for all. Billionaires aren't going to make themselves.
They want you to work 90 hrs a week. But then preach family values BS. When would you see your family? In between jobs? Congress needs to go back to getting paid in per diem.
🎯 Walmart always tops the list for having the most employees on Public Assistance. This is corporate welfare.
My sister still works full time at Walmart, for almost 20 years. She can’t afford an apartment, and lived in her car for a year.
Capitalism is so broken. 🤑🤑🤑
Is that because Walmart is to cheap to give health insurance??
The company gets local tax breaks to build stores in particular communities, and then underpays its workers so they need Medicaid and govt subsidies to survive. Not a good corporate neighbor.
