Another viewpoint. Some disability advocates have been trying to shut all the segregated schools down, for years, in favor of community inclusion rather than segregation in neglected, understaffed, maintenance-deferred second-rate schools that limit some students' potential. Both sides have points.

I understand & am absolutely in favor of inclusion, but how is that possible with the profoundly disabled in a regular school setting? Trying to understand cuz as a retired educator, I don’t know that Missouri would be willing to supply the extra resources, staff & building conversions necessary.

It isn't possible for many, my daughter included. These kids have severe intellectual, medical and physical disabilities that could never be accommodated in a typical classroom. I wonder what they intend to do with these children if they close the schools.

100%. Closing all the schools in all the states and municipalities was a mistake. They should have become gleaming showcases for education and training of the students and staff, and models of resource development for families. And, kids in the community schools should be getting the best as well.

The Missouri public school system is in trouble, as are so many other GOP led states' school systems. I believe in school choice, but I do not believe my tax dollars should go to private schools. They are not all created equal. Public schools give a chance for all, not just privileged.

That is sad. My 1/2 brother attended one of those schools in CA until he was too old to attend. He was severely mentally disabled. He couldn't construct one sentence. But he could say words. These children, NEED those schools, as many parents are not equipped to teach them.
