On roads: Sam Graves has been my Congressman for over 22 years. Sam is also one of Chairs the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee -- he voted against the 2021 Infrastructure Act. Missouri has some of the worst roads in the country, especially where I live, in his district.
Based on my FL experience, if he did get that EV tax it wouldn't go to roads. They let the public roads fall apart so their rich friends can put in toll roads.
Bet he claimed credit for any federal money that came in.
Missouri needs new leadership. BIG TIME.
We the people should FIRE legislators who are not doing their jobs, who try to overturn “the will of the people”, who work to take away our public services, who pander to the wealthy, who enrich themselves using “our tax $$”, who do not represent the people who elected them!

I live in Kansas City and you can see the difference when crossing state line into Missouri. Immediately, you can see the decay. You know when you’ve crossed over.

With the Act expiring, Sam has some "new" ideas for roads and bridges across the country. He wants to add taxes to electric vehicles to cover the costs of roads and bridges. There are 17,000 EVs registered in Missouri. Sam wants each car to pay an additional $350/year. Sam's additional tax will
bring in $6 Million in funding to Missouri for our roads. The Infrastructure Act Sam voted against in 2021 brought in $6.5 Billion in funding for Missouri roads. Sam Graves is a career politician who flies under the radar, but he has been busy dismantling American roads and bridges for decades.

Taxing EVs will disincentivize EV ownership in this state, and if people get rid of their EVs because of this, then isn't that just cutting off that source of revenue? Republicans are good at coming up with revenue ideas that cut themselves off I'll give them that.

One of my favorite facts about Missouri is that the rural dirt roads that mostly liberal taxpayers in Jackson and St. Louis counties paid to have paved during the 20th century are now being ground back to gravel due to Republican disinvestment in state infrastructure.

Wow. I remember driving through “the triangle” back in the ‘90’s when I lived in Lees Summit and worked in Kansas. It was a nightmare! Fortunately they rebuilt the area around 2000(?). Potholes are horrible.

Missouri has term limits for its state legislature. After term limits were enacted, Republicans were able to get a majority of both houses. They’ve had the majority ever since, 25 years of GOP control.
Just talking about this with my son in NV. The roads here are beautiful. Zero potholes. Why is Missouri falling behind on infrastructure in our state?

I can attest to this after living in MO for 60 plus years. MO has a shit load of bridges, especially in rural areas that were originally 2 lanes but now are 1 lane because of weight concerns. The bridges have been allowed to deteriorate over the years. MO has gone to shit since Repubs took over.
When we lived in KS there was an immediate change in road quality as soon as we crossed the state line into MO. Thanks for explaining why.
