They have to experience the pain. The only way to educate the ignorant about how tariffs are taxes on the people is for them to experience it firsthand and they're going to experience it. And remind them who exactly took away their family farm it was the Republican party and their tariffs.
Good point. The reminding part often gets lost/deflected/spun.
Thats why every time they try to lose it by changing the subject remind them go right back to it.Every time they try to deflect bring them right back to it&when they try to spin it look them in the eyes&smile show them the evidence and its their evidence they wont be able to get another word out of
Their mouths
A lot of the actual (family) farmers should have gone plenty off Trump, seeing as his ICE raids are destroying their harvest and many had to find out THEY were actually the "E" in DEI when their farms got DOGEd. The question is what about Big Ag / Big Food? www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj1r...
Farm closures disproportionately benefit large corporate operations, which dominate supply chains and can absorb smaller farms’ land/assets. Trump’s Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins advocates automation as a labor substitute, a costly transition only large agribusinesses can afford.
JD Vance still invested in AcreTrader?
Those farmers are going to regret their vote if they don't already. All the food that was going to USAID is now rotting in their fields. The corn subsidy might disappear altogether. The migrants that worked on their farms are either in hiding or in ICE custody. Rural hospitals will soon disappear.
Wasn't there a food shortage in Mexico several years back, because US based food companies had bought up all the mexican corn? I seem to remember something like that...
Or Trump's sugar mogul donors.
And with 50% tariffs, the price of Coke, with sugar, will take a huge jump. Since Trump drinks Diet Coke, he won't be affected.
I doubt that Coca Cola Corp will change their recipe.
Why is Trump pushing this?? He laughably drinks diet soda.
It won't be Brazilian. It will be from the DR, where the Fanjuls own a huge sugar plantation. Until recently, import from that plantation was banned because they use slave labor. Trump lifted the ban. Jose Pepe Fanjul gave Trump over 800k and also contributed 1 mill to the inauguration.
As they say, "Follow the Money".
We should start to hear something from that 78% pretty soon. Guaranteed it won’t be positive, but that’s who they voted for.
Well deserved then for those farmers
He’ll just try to bring slavery back to grow more cane in Louisiana again. 🤷🏻♀️
Corn is ubiquitous and corn syrup is awful and needs to be removed. It's in almost everything. I know, it's a migraine trigger for me even in the smallest amounts so I have to read every label.
We've killed our domestic sugar industry the last 40 years. No at scale packaged sugar from Hawaii - remember those C&H ads decades ago... Now it's all from Philippines and Central and South America
Now you got that jingle stuck in my head! 🌺
Thoughts and prayers
Look, we need to tariff *something* from Brazil to punish them for being mean to 🍊’s friend. This creates some trade for the US to collect all that $$$! 🤣
Under rated
I'm sorry, but how is it that I'm supposed to feel sorry for anyone who voted for Donald trump, especially the second time around? These people voted for a racist, bigot, misogynist and and adjudicated sexual assault. Oh! Now they're worried about getting screwed over themselves? Too bad!
Not opposed to having real sugar in Coke. As other people had mentioned, farmers voted for it, they have it coming.
They’re getting what they paid for, their beloved chicken shit dicktator. Maybe they can use all the lies and empty promises for fertilizer on the fallow fields.
Farmers mystify. They vote for a guy who destroys the markets for their products then pays them huge subsidies to keep them quiet.
FAFO, farmers
@steaknshake.bsky.social always makes poor marketing decisions.
They will absolutely be upset. But will they value that more than flaunting their bigotry? If not, they'll grouse and groan and vote straight R again. Lots of these farmers don't "vote against their interests", because their interest is in bashing people they don't like.
And they will vote for him again because all they see on Fox News is “liberals destroying the country”
Most of our cane sugar is imported. So there's that, and it doesn't grow in the midwest...
It's never going to happen...coke knew nothing about it.
Florida sugar barons love the idea.
Meanwhile, you've got MN sugar beet growers looking for a chance but nobody remembers they make an identical product that the can growers make.
Michigan sugar beets too. But if I remember correctly, migrant workers would hoe the young rows. Probably not too many migrant workers want to expose themselves right now. And probably not too many other folks want to work the rows. (Time will tell next spring)
No one should be drinking coke anyway
DJT has a bit of history screwing over his supporters and he’s not going to stop now so the American corn growers need to been over and grab their ankles because he is going to screw them! Hope y’all enjoy!
This is going to put a lot of farmers in a tough spot. And how is Coke being praised by Robert Kennedy as a win? Coke is not healthy.
“Better with coke” what else do you need to read (…or learn about vaccines for, while you can have a coke)
Maybe they thought that Coke was going back to the original recipe with cocaine
Addictive enough without the original recipe. ☠️
Great point!
Mono crops are bad no matter. We grow too much corn in the US…
You get what you vote for.
I’m not a huge fan of Monsanto corn being in everything… but this is a great example of poor planning. So we now have to import America’s favorite drug (sugar with caffeine right behind) but we’re going to be paying enormous tariffs on it. That should go well.
They will still vote and support him because they'll just blame Dems 🙃
...and POC, and LGBTQ+, and women. As long as they can keep their hate and see those folks suffer more than they do, they'll vote for him.
No sympathy here. Farmers are one of the loudest groups wailing against student loan forgiveness while they squirrel aways billions in low to no interest USDA loans. 🎻
Nope. I don't get loan forgiveness, you don't get to keep your farm. We have been unable to afford things like a home and children because of the burden of student debt. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.
They can just grow sugar cane
Wrong environment if you're think corn fields replaced with sugar cane.
Idk. I think it will work. Also we can just use Florida wetlands. We dont need aligators
Certainly not alligator alcatraz. But there are a lot more farmers growing corn than Florida land that can grow sugar cane.
Most field corn is livestock feed not a sugar base.
Afraid not. The cane that’s used to produce granulated sugar can only be grown in South Florida
If it can grow in Florida it can also grow in Louisianna and Georgia. Also, we can selective breed more robust versions
Also, the bulk of the corn grown in this country is grown in the Midwest.
Beets aren’t cane. You can’t make cane sugar from beets.
It tastes the same.
Oh my God. He wants to use “cane sugar”. The point is that to use “cane sugar” we’d have to import most of it.
So. 90% of the is cattle feed. They can grow cane or beats.
Nope
Yes we can.
Have you grown much sugar cane?
No, but i know It will grow in Texas with irrigation. Doesnt even need irrigation in Houston. I grow pinapples too. I hre Bamboo in my yard but omg it got crazy fast. If bamboo can grow so can cane sugar
But all sugar cane can’t be used to make granulated. Cane grown north of South Florida is used to make syrup. I live in south Ga and have grown sugar cane.
The insulin prices don’t really care which sugar they use.
Or bananas
So bananas need warm weather to bear fruit. Northern Louisiana is too cold.
Existing cultivars of bananas do. With a bit of gene splicing, probably from related Musa basjoo (the most cold hardy species of Musa, growing and fruiting successfully in outdoor cultivation in the British Isles and British Columbia) we could produce a banana that would grow in Louisiana.
Maybe climate change will allow growing bananas, coffee, and cane sugar.
Yes I was kidding. Someone in the administration suggested that Brazilian tariffs would bring banana production home
I did the same about coffee production (Kona coffee).
Or sugar beats
Lol
Or coffee
I learned about sugar beets on Sesame Street.
The administration will find another way to provide welfare for farm-owners.
Yes. It is in so many things unnecessarily.
Because they share his hatred of the LGBTQ community, POC and uppity women/liberals. He deeply damaged their industry the first time he infested the WH, too -- and they still backed him.
When did cane sugar suddenly become a health food?
Something tells me that Coke will not be willing to pay all those extra tariffs on cane sugar from Brazil just to make the felon-in-chief happy. I hope I’m wrong about this but if I’m wrong, I’d be okay with a bit of schadenfreude.
Fuck around and find out Shouldn’t be drinking coke, or coke products anyways. They’re utterly obliterating villages in central America by literally sucking rivers dry, only the distribute coke to those villagers in lieu of water, and now obesity and diabetes ran rampant in those communities.
AND they called ICE on their own, illegally hired employees
Thank for all your hard work, but they seem to respond to trigger words, like the Clintons, Obama or the Biden’s. Try making a list of all big Republican donors. Like they do with George Soros. 🇺🇸🥀
It’s so generational. Some times I think we need to update our communications. I found from battling on tik tok, they didn’t understand the politic language. Then got mad and insulted. People don’t talk the same, maybe simpler plain speak.
Not to mention how consumers will feel about the prices of sugary products rising. Oh I forgot, inflation only matters if it's a Dem president.
Yup. His diversionary tactics have unintended side effects. He’s desperate to divert attention from the Epstein scandal and his well known at the time, obvious involvement. He’s not thinking of his ongoing damage to the agricultural interests in this country.
Not Brazilian or Chinese. There’s a billionaire owner of a sugarcane company who was banned from doing sugarcane business in the U.S. bc he used forced labor. Trump lifted the ban. That billionaire lives in FL and is in Epstein’s contact list. My guess is he had leverage on trump.
Here’s the link to a reel on that. www.facebook.com/share/r/1Ayn... The profile on Instagram is @christinatalkst
I thought Coke already told him to fuck off?
Not farmers. Soil grown material manufacturers.
What with tariffs on Brazilian produce I will grab 🍿and watch from a safe distance…
High fructose corn syrup is toxic. There is a reason most of the world bans it in food.
The Coca Cola company already said they never agreed to any such thing, he made it up. He did talk to them about it, but they didn't agree.
It's not going to happen. Coke thanked him for his stupid idea and went on with their day.
Plus it was more than 10 minutes ago so I’m sure Trump has already forgotten he said it
The American way of dealing with this is to manufacture a coup in the country with the resource, then install a puppet government who will grant a US corporation total authority over the resource, land, and workers.
the world isn't buying american corn anymore anyway
Kinda thought other day that he has it out for corn growers. His first run remember him saying he didn’t like ethanol. No way is he a business man. Used to produce wind generators south of Burlington and guessing that’s done now.
Won't he just give them a huge ass socialist subsidy? Like he did with tariffs last time.
Their chosen President & lawmakers turning their backs on them isn't their only problem. Climate change, & its consequences won't spare any of us. www.ksdk.com/article/life...
The reason corn syrup is used so much in food is not to subsidize farmers - it is about money. This stuff is cheaper than table sugar, makes people feel less full so they consume more of it, which means more profit. That is why.
Farmers are getting screwed over by Trump but are not ready to admit they made a mistake supporting him. Yet. I hear rumblings like a soon to be very active volcano.
I don’t see as many tRump signs or pickups flying their freak flags anymore.
Me either.
They deserve Trump !!
78% of the farmers are able to farm but are stupid as cane sugar?! Heil My fuehrer diaper don, for the lesson ! He not only knows and teaches market! Geknödelt as wel and teaches which kind of ingredients are in a good coke
They could always plant something else that no one from overseas will buy because it’s now too expensive. Farmers will probably get a couple of checks from Trump like they did in his first term. They’ll have to wait for a real solution.
Take corn out of my car's fuel tank, too.
You get what you vote for.
FAFO
It’ll really blow your mind when you find out how much we pay to subsidize Brazilian corn farmers each year so they don’t lower the price of their corn.
The trump farmers hate brown people, unless they’re working for that particular farmer. Then they are very necessary.
Bingo
78% of farmers are pro-rape, pro-pedo idiots.
Under MAGA/GOP the USA gutted and destroyed food aid to starving people around the world. Food that the government bought from American farmers. Do you really think they will give a damn about Americans paying more for tariffed sugar? 😠
They’re getting what they voted for.
That's because they know if they lose money from Trump's disastrous decisions he will instantly use billions of Taxpayer Dollars to bail them out... over and over again.
When your warped worldview, your support of hatred, and your utter ignorance kills your revenue stream...
Consumers may not like it either because sugar is significantly more expensive than high fructose corn syrup. That will be passed on to you.
Partly because we subsidize corn farmers
And we tariff sugar imports.
Right!
Bad. They’re gonna feel bad.
Tariffs! You will be paying more for it.
Farmers, perhaps more than anyone, should know that you reap what you sow. I’m not shedding a tear for them.
Imagine how screwed they feel when I pour electricity into my car.
The US has a domestic sugarcane market.
As long as they still get the subsidies... thehustle.co/originals/ho...
ethanol is a corn subsidy. it is energy negative. the farming uses more fuel than is produced
Kill the corn farmers' profits so they have to foreclose, then buy the land for pennies to the dollar.
Who votes against their own interests and again it is Trump Voters.
We have 'Mexican' coke in a local store, so I tried one bottle, yes, the older bottles. It was in the aisle with other Mexican food items. Didn't like it at all, but I don't drink Coke often.
From what I understand is corn syrup even less healthy than cane sugar. So from a health perspective it might be better. Other than that I have no opinion on what you should do.
I'm sure they'll be very unhappy though they may be mollified by a subsidy. Sarah Taber points out that most farmer owners don't actually want to be farmers.
GOP ALWAYS VOTE AGAINST THEIR OWN INTERESTS Not sure if I feel sorry for them
And will that cane sugar be tarried?
The moron never thinks anything through. We’ll see if he backpedals on this if someone explains it to him
Seems super healthy now at a time when they’re closing rural hospitals too… Gutting healthcare programs to give you some sugar & RFK nods in approval🥴🥴🥴 Real brilliance going on here. #Sugarcane #KillerHealthcare
HFCS makes money for ADM, Cargill, Ingredion, Primient, and other corn refining companies. Not much for farmers. On Sunday news shows in my teens, every ad was for either defense contractors or ADM. Those were the days when big ag were foisting ethanol mandates and corn subsidies on our politicos.
Suckered and losers, farmers
Good
......and deserve everything they get. Sorry, not sorry.
That $50 billion welfare package for farmers should take the edge off.
Soy and corn, in one form or another, as well as citric acid are also in everything. It makes finding clean foods very difficult. Not thrilled with the farm raised anything like fish.
Well they voted for him again after he practically destroyed them with tariffs in his first term so ?
Release the Epstein files!
And there is no nutritional difference. This is how Trump fights for the American people.
Oh well . FAFO 👇
78% of farmers fucked-up.
They won't like it. But hate is strong.
Here, farmers are complaining but still supporting Trump. They are just sure that he will, like in his first term, bail them out because he needs them and besides, they looks like him, right? (It doesn’t even occur to them that NO, no all farmers are white, FFS.) What they don’t understand is he 1/
Trump doesn’t think he needs them anymore. The destruction of democracy makes them irrelevant. He isn’t going to bail them out. 2/2
1. I don't drink coke and don't care. 2. Those farmers all voted for trump, probably every time he ran. They will vote for him again. I have no sympathy for them.
Just finished two long histories of the sugar trade and the sweetener wars, science and politics. Summary: Slavery and Obesity.
I don’t think Coke has confirmed anything but there is plenty of sugar produced in the USA.
Yep, sugar beets. I buy US sugar when it’s available.
When corn surplus was too large, high fructose corn syrup was invented and put in literally everything because it was cheaper than sugar. It started the American obesity epidemic. Sugar usage waned but is still too high in calories. Sugar in Coke is just another Trump invented distraction.
I do wish we could grow coffee. The Italian in me needs it.
Whelp that’s a lot of truth mixed with made up stuff.
I love this for them
I'm not one of those "everything is a distraction" people, but I do think it's horseshit that a man who is notoriously hooked on Diet Coke (there's a special call button on the Resolute desk, ffs) is suddenly on the horn to Atlanta urging them to Make Mexican Coke American Again.
78% of farmers are dipshits.
Than I guess they’re ok with it, it’s not like he didn’t mention what he was going to do.
The Whack Job the GOP confirmed as Head of our Health Department doesn't care that his every move is detrimental to so many Americans. Obviously the Republicans don't either.
Read it and weep.
Like you said, I don't think they will care. He has destroyed them through tariffs and taking away our CRP programs and they still support him.
They haven’t really felt the impact yet on prices. The rise in beef prices though could start getting their attention
It takes a special kind of stupid. 🎪
I have to agree that high fructose corn syrup is not good for people.
Why did so many of the farmers believe in Trump?
Because he bankrupted so many his first term? Or because they’re racist idiots?
Interesting point 🤔
Corn growers will not like it
Fuck em. No sympathy. They'll never realize their mistake until their last breath on this earth.
‘Found Out ..’
Who cares? Let the fuckers suffer.
This is a trump gift to the domestic sugar cane industry which has a very powerful lobby in DC and which is controlled by a very small number of very wealthy trump supporters.
Oh, it’s not the Brazilian cane sugar….. bsky.app/profile/peip...
A lot of cheap Midwestern farm land about to be on the market, likely bought up by corporate farmers and maybe 1 or 2 future Trump Towers. Nothing like reading an industry to scoop up cheap land!
Trump wants everyone to use all-American Idaho cane sugar.
Trump always nails out the farmers.
On the plus side, your chocolate won’t taste like vomit any more.
Farmers - FAFO
They’re forced to grow that GMO corn used in high fructose corn syrup to get government subsidies. And they’re forced by the government to buy it from Monsanto (Bayer). Also, most corn growers aren’t independent farmers but big ag.
BS
We outbid Mexico, previously dominant market for corn, thru market saturation & then got mad when Mexican farmers gave up farming & came to the US to look for work. The US creates MOST of its own problems.
bsky.app/profile/peip...
78% of farmers voted for Mexican Coke. Because in Mexico, Coke is made with cane sugar. Watch Orange Pendeja try to rebrand it as Trump Coke though.
As true patriots, they won’t complain when they can’t put food on the table or when the Repro Man shows up to take their farm equipment. But don’t worry, the Trump family or other big rich food companies will be happy to buy their farms for pennies on the dollar! I think they call that MAGA. 💁
They will feel how Fox tells them to feel. It is disgustingly predictable.
Love this!
i think hes trying to help out his large Florida donors the fanjul brothers who own sugar cane fields in florida and dominican rep. huge backstory on them with regard to forced labor and (surprise surprise) epstein.
I'm telling you the man is the perfect tool to destroy America.
as an iowan i can't imagine this will be popular.
I live among cornfields out here in W. Kentucky...beautiful land...and the farmers still have their Trump flags waving in the breeze in front of their homes. It'll be interesting to see if the flags ever come down when reality hits these farmers.
We need to keep the corn growers around for when we've completely ruined our habitat and it's the only crop that still grows
