I grew up poor and in the country without cable. Know what channel always came in? PBS. Fuck Trump.
I grew up poor and in the country without cable. Know what channel always came in? PBS. Fuck Trump.
Always. As a young mom in Missouri, PBS was a wealth of free accessible shows for my 4 children.
We mostly watched only PBS because all the other channels, all three or four of them, were SHITE.
👍 yes!!
Exactly!!! Thank you
Sesame Street taught so many children. For free.
Same on both points…
I grew up poor without cable too! Well it was the 60's
I was a child in the 1970's, pre-cable and pre-satellite. We got 8 or 9 broadcast channels -- 4 VHF and the rest UHF. PBS was Channel 13 (KERA Dallas/Ft. Worth). It was always there for us.
Same. Although I think KERA was like channel 4 in our rural outpost.
#8647 #pedophiletrump #idaho_gop_pedophiles
I learned so much from watching Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, Zoom, and The Electric Company. It guts me to see this happen.
PBS is where I discovered Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, The Goodies, Bob Ross, Jacques Pepin, Julia Child ... it brought "culture" to my world as a youngster and helped shape my interests in British history, art, cooking, etc. Yes, all things must pass, but I wish some of the good things could stay.
There's no reason it has to pass. Join others & work to save it.
CPB, the govt organization that funds most of its programm8ng, is ceasing operations. It could be saved, but unlikely with donations only. Private funding could keep PBS on the air, but that changes it fundamentally.
Yes, I know all that. My answer stands.
Same. I grew up in Alaska. When the Mt. Spurr volcano erupted and ash was falling from the sky…it was PBS that helped kids like me understand why we couldn’t play outside.
your substack put a bullseye on what they are doing
Sunny day, Chasing the clouds away...
Yep. Taking out joy, out entertainment and learning.
That is the very reason he is gutting it. Not only poor but also uninformed. It's horrid. 💔🤬
Trump is a pedophile
Imagine the late '70s a Monty Python's Flying Circus aired on KETC on a weekend night. The show became what we all talked about on Monday morning in school.
The wealthy had enough money to bribe Republicans to do this (and get Republicans willing to do all of their bidding elected to office). We should never have reduced taxes on the wealthy from Eisenhower rates.
If you were lucky and lived between 2 cities you could sometimes get 2 PBS’s. Living like royalty!!
Same. We sat in front of the tv because we were the remote.
Group back when there was only over the air stations. You had rabbit ears to manipulate or if you were lucky the antenna on top of the house could be moved by a rotor.
“Grew up”.
Another fascist move
Yes when there was only four channels, pbs was one, what I liked about that channel was that there were no commercials! Great documentaries and music.
I grew up in the 50s, 3 channels on tv. I remember the day our local PBS came available. No Sesame Street or anything like that, but all sorts of other wonderful programming. It was the only channel I was allowed to watch freely.
#GOPGuardiansOfPedophiles
Fuck Republicans www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/20...
Cancel any cable bundles that include Fox News, they get funds or fees from that -- cancelling en masse would force them to pay for their own crappy fake news channel!! 😡 Nobody needs cable. Get an antenna. Nobody should be paying these cable companies as much as we pay them every month anyway!
💯Truth
I was a latchkey kid. My grandma taught me some cooking basics so I could feed myself when I was six. Watching the Frugal Gourmet and Justin Wilson gave me skills to successfully cater private parties earning my college tuition.
Same Ms. Piper - same
And AM radio, that they’re also cutting. It sucks most of the time, but when you need info, it’s there!
PBS, NPR, Democracy Now & VOA radio we're the only reliable US news sources watched & listened by millions of 'double taxed' 🇺🇸 expats internationally. That showed & told real news, actually happening in all states around the USA. All other US media have become no news talk shows for Donald Trump.
I grew up close to the bone, too. We had a B/W SMALL TV. When I was 3, I kept seeing the NBC "living color" ads, so I got up from my mayonnaise sandwich on Wonderbread and checked out our set--it was blue and white plastic. I went back to my sandwich convinced we had a "color TV". PBS was our 4th
channel. In 1974, but bro started working on broadcasting Fox 35 from a small storefront. He was in HS. I just needed ABC for my soaps, NBC and CBS for a couple of primetime shows, and NBC for SNL.. PBS rounded up with nature, science and Sesame St--though I was in Jr. High. I joined at .50 PM.
Probably an important factor in your becoming such a bright light in this miserable country.
This didn't need to happen. He didn't really win the election. Why did Harris immediately concede and walk away rather than order an investigation that would have exposed the cheat? thiswillhold.substack.com/p/ex-cia-whi...
Someday (hopefully) we will find out everything concerning that “contest” I wouldn’t be surprised if it all circles back to WHO is on that fucking LIST - it’s worldwide
Hopefully, the "forget it and move on" people are the same ones that freak out if I say I didn't vote for Kamala (I did). If you're not committed to counting my vote, why should I bother voting?
I’ve been fairly convinced someone’s been purposely weakening the signal strength of OPTV in Springfield for at least 10 years.
He's a disservice to this entire country. www.npr.org/2025/08/01/n...
It’s not just Trump, it’s conservatives. They’ve been trying to defeat Mister Roger’s for decades and now they have, largely through the power willingly given to them by rural voters who my entire life have clearly voted to harm others rather than to aid themselves or give their kids a future.
💙
Same 😡
Bluesky feels like the group chat nobody controls. I love it here.
Yes!!! Ch 9. I'm so bummed.
Here is the real reason Trump destroyed PBS muppet.fandom.com/wiki/Ronald_...
I’ve always enjoyed PBS but especially as a 1960s kid. On Sunday mornings, there were 3 channels of religious programming and PBS. On weekdays, 3 channels of soap operas and PBS. My favorite PBS time was after school since the programming was for kids like me.
Ditto.
PBS is important to the entire country. cbwrong.blogspot.com?m=1
Still the only thing we get.
Me too!
He's such a petty, spoiled, childish, brat. I wish his father had worn a condom. 😒
Fuck all billionaires.
Only clear channel we got here too.
Fuck that orange POS!
Same.
Still the same
17-1, 17-2, 17-3, 17-4 all gone💔🤬🤌
Thought of Jesse Wells. He's always worth a listen. youtu.be/i_rUalZNLfY?...
Good tune. PBS was good.
I love PBS. Seriously. Can they stay on if we donate more?
bsky.app/profile/lind...
Back when one had to go out and adjust(twist) to receive four channels…..
We were NOT poor but PBS was always on.
Sideways.
All 3 of my sons grew up watching PBS. Great programming accessible for all.
👍
Indeed
💙💙💙💙
During the Great Recession I lost work. I was a stay at home Dad. One of my favorite memories is when my daughter would excitedly utter, “Look Daddy, Elmo is on.”
It's time for us to take a stand. Get busy living or get busy dieing.
U MAD BRO?
I believe the major news networks will die because of Trumps vehemente stance against PBS & NPR. They will be replaced by independent folks. Maybe the best thing that happened since they are not beholden to anyone corporate.
many of the news networks don't even know what actual new-worthy news is. The often check PBS and NPR, to see what they are reporting.
Me, too. 😞
That was the exact same thought I had. This act was yet another deliberate, cruel act against those without "means".
CPB must be restored! In the meantime, be sure to support NPR, and your public radio and television stations. Their lifeline is US
He Colberted those channels 😡
My daughter learned so many things just watching Sesame Street. I even learned a few things with her. Trump needed some Sesame Street in his pathetic life!
Grew up watching KMOS-TV out of Sedalia. Monty Python, Are You Being Served, Mystery, American Playhouse, Doctor WHO, NOVA, etc.
We didn’t have cable most of the years my son was growing up in the 90s and he watched PBS. We had cable or satellite part of the time when my daughter was little, and she still watched PBS and especially PBS Kids when she was a toddler. The kids’ doctor’s offices also have PBS Kids on their tv’s.
Same for me! The only channel I remember on the tv was PBS.
⬆️ That right there?! That was its entire purpose and is still key.
Yes. PBS kept me informed! Loved it for my children. So sad .
PBS and NPR are iconic, indispensable.
The one channel that comes in clear here most days.
Fuck Trump!
On 9/11 I had a toddler. Know which channel continued to play children’s programming so that the grownups could watch the horrors of the day in another room? PBS. They’ve meant so much to so many for so long.
Same but 2 channels. We watched pbs like it was cnn
We got ABC out of Illinois, but i take your point.
👍
This hillbilly's first: Symphony orchestra Shakespeare Hearing other languages Learning there were other religions Wanting to travel the world With a rusty antenna and aluminum foil rabbit ears The world made it into the holler Yes. Fuck Trump
I lived way out in the country on an Indian reservation and PBS was the only channel we could get, using rabbit ears! I still watch PBS almost every day. Fuck Trump
In rural IL and NPR is a nice alternative to country, conservative talk radio and religious programming when I'm driving. No screaming disc jockeys.
Same here only not in the country. Poor also. Dad firefighter, mom school cook. You can tell from my handle where. And yes also… Fuck him 🖕🏻
Exactly, if you wanted to watch fuzzy ABC, CBS or NBC you had to move the "rabbit ears and sometimes put that piece aluminum foil on them. PBS always was clear, no cussing by my dad required.
👍🏻💙🇺🇸
My father and my little son watched Sesame Street together. They liked hanging out together.
Trump and his goons are screwing us all over, but the rural people are being super-screwed.
Same-ish
feeling this exact same way!
Fuck Trump, pure idiot and pure evil.
PBS introduced me to Monty Python because nobody else wanted us to know about the UK.
Same here! "Are You Being Served" and "Red Dwarf" added to that list is the very reason I have a sense of humor.
Honestly wondering if THIS is what finally clicks with Nebraskans. And by this, I mean NETV lost ability to broadcast all Husker Volleyball games across the state. (more than losing their hospitals & healthcare) Sadly dead serious.
Oh, I believe you.
Not just entertainment. NOVA. I remember watching NOVA decades ago and learning about what plastic pollution was doing to our bodies. I feel like regular science features are always coming out late compared to NOVA.
THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMhE...
PBS is where I first saw Monty Python back in the 1970s amongst many other awesome programs. Fuck Trump, the illiterate dipshit.
Same! I was watching PBS before my family could get their first cable box. PBS was everything. tDump is a total asshole!
My kids grew up middle class, in the suburbs. We didn’t have cable. You know what they watched almost exclusively? PBS. I can’t begin to imagine a child’s life without PBS and the good content it brought to them. PBS benefits everyone. We should all be deeply saddened and angered by this move.
Same. ❤️
Yes! It’s what I think of every time I see how PBS is being attacked. How Sesame Street is being attacked. Every single thing that’s good, just, leftist, etc. is being dismantled or flat out destroyed. Things have sped up due to distractions for Taco over the epstein files. They’re taking advantage
While CPB is gone, PBS and NPR are still here, each with a big hole in their budgets. Rural stations are likely to be the next to go. To donate to a rural station, you could start here. adoptastation.org
Very helpful!
