Doesn’t just suck our money up but won’t let us run our own police departments or make our own local laws. This reminds me of Eric Greitens and one of his more overt slap in the face to our cities.
The KC city council passed a law that Uber had to provide proof of a background check for every driver before they’d be allowed to operate in the city. Of course public safety takes a back seat to corporate greed so Greitens had the legislature overturn the law.
Then, in order to completely degrade us and prove his supremacy, he filmed himself in an Uber going through a Taco Bell drive through to order a chalupa. He was laughing the entire time.
The NYT this week ran a long story about the huge number of sexual assaults committed by Uber drivers. His stunt doesn’t seem so funny now, although perhaps appropriate as he turned out to be a sexual predator himself.
I feel your pain. Texas has more more registered Democrats than Republicans. Republicans can't win without Gerrymandering & Voter repression. We also suck more dollars from Federal government (blue states)because of poverty wages & Right to Fire laws while touting bustling economy. Billion$ surplus.

We left Independence last October. We moved to another red state that is worse. Grifting is the red state way of doing business. When rules are changed to support the grift, socioeconomic systems following that model look far more like organized crime.

The metros aren’t helping the situation. When I lived in St Louis I couldn’t believe how stubbornly fractured and provincial the politics were. Perpetually divided and so easily conquered and controlled by the rednecks elsewhere in the state.

We just visited KC for a great international touring show, on Tuesday the city seems great, downtown, at least. We are from Fort Smith, Arkansas, so seeing SOMEONE actually caring about what the city looks like AND and funded public transit system was spectacular to see in the US…
…& I hated spending money even there, knowing some of it funded the GOOD work happening in the metro, because I know the state powers do everything they can to prevent such wild extravagances as basic public services and functional schools and roads from being allowed in the rest of the state.
I think a LOT of Americans genuinely have no clue that this is NOT normal or fine, living like this. Anyone capable of the expense of international travel gets to see real places with functional governments that attempt to at least LOOK like they care for us regulars. I don’t know many who can.
