I know how to fix it: First, let's have everyone accuse them of conspiring against patients, creating hostile terrorists. Then, let's get involved in every little thing they do - and make all their decisions for them - especially OB/GYNs. Then, let's make them haggle with insurance all day. Then..

Studies consistently show a link between Medicaid expansion and improved hospital financial health, particularly in rural areas. States that expanded Medicaid have seen a decrease in hospital closure rates, while those that did not have experienced an increase.

Rural hospitals are especially vulnerable to the financial strain of uncompensated care and low reimbursement rates. Medicaid expansion provides a crucial revenue stream and helps offset the cost of treating uninsured patients, thus improving their financial stability.

The closure of a hospital, especially in a rural area, can have devastating consequences for the community. It can lead to: Loss of access to essential healthcare services. Economic hardship due to job losses. Potential for increased morbidity and mortality.

Hospitals are often major employers in rural communities. The closure of a hospital can trigger a domino effect, impacting local businesses and the overall economic health of the area.

In 2016 & 2020, Trump won Missouri with 57% of the vote. In 2024 that percentage rose to 58.5%. Missouri voters knew what Trump stood for, and they loved it. I would say that this is just the chickens coming home to roost, but I'm pretty sure that few among the 58.5% care about this problem.

Part of the issue for OB care in these red states, is their harsh abortion laws. I wouldn’t want to practice medical care, where I could be put in jail for the rest of my life for practicing proper medical care. Sometimes, the only thing that saves the mother’s life is getting rid of the baby.
