We can't allow the GOP to gerrymander and not fight back in kind. However the outcome is going to be really bad if both parties gerrymander their states. If so we need to plan for a violent November 2026 because neither party will accept the results no matter who wins. Maybe Trump wants civil war.
So be it. It is important to recognize that this is a war, not a competition. If you're a peacemaker and someone invades your home, destroying your society, what do you do? Letting the invaders win without resistance is selfish, prioritizing your beliefs over the safety of your family and community.
Everyone needs to make 1 of 3 decisions, it's a personal choice: 1. Pacifist, willing to die rather than fight. 2. Willing to fight but not trained or equipped. 3. Prepare yourself by training & equipping for self defense. It's dangerous living in the USA under Trump so I pick 3.
Respect your choice. But in the war, protecting yourself while ignoring your population's dire situation is almost futile. Most of us never prepare to fight a war (who wants a war anyway). But when it happens to you, your best chance to survive is to fight.
I'm not sure why you think self-defense is mutually exclusive with protecting or supporting other people. Lesson 1 in martial arts is situational awareness and avoiding fights unless someone attacks you or someone you must protect. I'll bite. How are you helping your population's dire situation?
That approach works in most situations, but not during a war. That's why you rarely find a novel featuring an army of martial arts masters fighting together as a team. I do everything I can to make a difference. For example, I will vote yes on gerrymandering and encourage others to do the same.

I live in CA & have been leery of a return to gerrymandering. Today I got mailer from "Protect the Voters First Act" protect our democracy etc. Main donor is Charles Munger Jr, longtime Repub donor. I got off the fence & donated to put Gov Newsom's redistricting on special election ballot.
I was leery too but the bill requires that restricting return to the normal committee after the next census which is when it’s supposed to be done. I’m ok with that. My husband surprised me by wanting to donate - I think it’s his first political donation but he’s a pretty mad former republican.

I hate gerrymandering too. It takes the power of the vote away from the people. What I'd like to see is all the districts redrawn to be as grid like as possible. base the borders on geographics not demographics. If we did that, we'd have candidates that were people 1st, party 2nd.

It's perfectly fine to set districts by population. My county in rural SE GA has 25K people in it. Our town has 5K inhabitants -- the two next largest towns have 2500 people each. Why should it have the same representation as Fulton County, which contains 1,090,354 people?
My main point is - If we’re making laws at the Federal level, it has to be done in a way that’s harder to manipulate, and easier to standardize. I don’t know enough of the details to know the best way to do that.

You're off by more than 2 decades. It began with desegregation in 1954. Conservative "christian" colleges (I use that word as loosely as I can, and then some) had to admit students of color or lose federal funding. When that happened, they began planning for this very opportunity.

Dems have been losing the gerrymandering fight for 50 years. Glad CA woke up but all they did was offset TX. Now the flood of Red States - much better prepared for this - will come. Dems will dither. Prediction - loss of 10 seats.
In many states, if we dems stand together, we can gerrymander until there is a single statewide district. And it will be each person’s vote finally counts. I’m sick and tired of old white curmudgeons sitting in diners in my midwestern state have much of any say. I’m white and I’m old, but urban AF.
