When I say I am a hillbilly, I mean it quite literally. It was my high school mascot. Ozark, Arkansas.

Not to be confused with the Monticello Billy Goats.
Hey, being a Hillbilly doesn't mean you have to be stupid. Take for example you, and the "Trillbillies Workers Party"! You go! www.youtube.com/watch?v=SugM...
Totally! The ignorant ones just get all the credit!
The minor league team in Marion, IL are the Thrillbillies.
I love Ozark and that little café downtown that I can't remember the name of. It's been a while!
Yup.. see below substack.com/home/post/p-...
I'd concur. It's a commercial establishment. I eat there. I don't pray, celebrate, or study there. 🙄
Aux arc!
Jess, I’m so white, I’m nearly translucent. The was a CB across the street from where I’ve been buying groceries for the 30 years. I never so much as looked at the place until it was closed and converted into a sushi place. Claiming it as my culture is as if saying my culture is eating turds.
😆
Plus Cracker Barrel is in the big cities. WTF.
No logo change or DEI positive declaration will ever get me to eat at CB. 🤢
I think of Cracker Barrel as more of suburban thing. The good stuff is some roadside shack with a name like Eddie's Burgers, Parker's BBQ or Beckie's Pies and doesn't even have a logo. (These are all real places I've been lol)
I’m from a town of 714 in NE Texas…My mom and step dad once managed his family’s property in Lamar, MO…My first “govt. issued photo ID” was from MO, I took my written DL test in Joplin at 15. Outside the HS mascot, I understand. 🤣🤣
People in Joplin think that Olive Garden is Italian food and my MAGA family will only eat at places like Chili’s or Cheddars. My parents went to Hawaii and went to Outback Steakhouse. This IS their heritage and culture. They won’t touch ANY Mexican, Thai, or anything they consider unAmerican food.
Oh how I miss being stationed on Guam. The island food was amazing. I would eat Thai, Mexican, Philippino, and Chamorro food any time of the week….burp….excuse me..☺️.
My wife and I have been exploring Mexico since early May. Talk about an unexpected culinary experience!
I miss being in the Middle East because the food was amazing. I was stationed at an airbase with a lot of countries represented and the Italians set up a pizzeria. The best chow hall was the South Korean one next to their hospital. And the local made felafel is something I really miss.
Oh how I miss Korean food too. I just couldn’t name them all since we don’t have enough room to post here. Love me some Kimchi. If you haven’t tried foreign cuisine, you really don’t know what you’re missing…..OMG!
I still have a Korean MRE that they gave me back in 2004. They gave me two but I only ate one of them and it was hard to believe it was an MRE! It says it expired in 2005 but I bet it would still be better than any of the “food” in American MRE’s.
Some MRE’s that I had while on Guam during a typhoon were good but, yeah you’re right, the Korean MRE was the bomb! I’ve always wanted to be stationed in S. Korea but they never had any billets opened up for Navy Yeoman’s. But, Hashing was fun there, if you ever heard of it.
Thankfully due to a younger spouse my dad has made an EXTREME shift to at least center which is progress but maternally this would be my exact experience. “Applebees is a nice family dinner” kind of thing. lol
Same, except from a town of 910 in NE Kansas and moved to Joplin in 1985. Joplin is one of the biggest towns I know of with small town hillbilly attitudes. We have 6 Walmarts and 3 Chick-fil-A’s for a town of 50K. 🤣
Norma Rae was a hillbilly too.😊
Hey from Fayetteville
Homie! Fordyce “Redbug” here - Always glad when intellect, substance and heart survive the tribulation of the “land of opportunity” - My escape in 1982 was narrow but permanent. Thank you for standing in the gap.
I am really not much more than an upjumped hillbilly with three degrees. I kept all the meanness of being born and raised that way into adulthood.
