Marc Elise said he will be bringing suit if Missouri tries this, I hope he does. Look for Democracy docket on YouTube and please follow. He is in litigation over the Texas redistricting.
Just noticed I spelt his last name wrong. It's Marc Elias.
What is the probability that the 4th and 5th districts turn blue? Are they that confident? Are there enough GOP voters to outweigh a heavy independent voter turnout who favor a Democratic Candidate after all that has transpired?
They are running into trouble by doing this…
🤞
Good.
The little blue dot, Columbia, just doesn't exist in this map. Of course.
I’m sure conservative SCOTUS are eager to endorse a fully republican senate and house representation… and they’d do so without any opinion. Who needs that? Especially if it stuffs their lower court judicial colleagues in a locker. Pffft.
Holy crap!?!?!😳🤦🏼♀️
This is where cities will need to start talking about "taxation without representation", point out that they are generating basically all the tax revenue, point out that they are being robbed of representation, and take appropriate actions about that. And maybe some inappropriate actions.
St. Louis is too hard to gerrymander I guess.
Looks like the same crap that Texas is doing. Gods help them.
Completely erases Columbia. Pisses me off.
College town = democratic
Me too!
AND THE LARGEST CITY IN MISSOURI!
Kansas City disappears into a long line across the state that would encompass small counties and even smaller towns.
It's sad to see a state that hates its own people as much as MO
Texas, Hold my beer!
I was skipping the obvious answer 😂
Missouri currently has 6/8 districts Republican so the gerrymandering gets them one seat.
Jesus! This is what they did in Kansas. Shoved Lawrence, KS, in with a strip that extends to western Kansas. Totally eliminated their representation.
If the R’s could figure out a way to formally dissolve KC and STL but maintain the revenue, I’m sure they would.
They already have control of the police departments, and had the kc public schools until recently.
I'm almost certainly its in the works.
Ridiculous.
This is absolutely ridiculous! This will make people not want to vote, but this is the time when EVERYONE needs to vote! Don’t let them turn us, stand strong and fight back!!!!!!
Surprised he doesn’t go all the way and include St. Louis in the same district
…or somehow gerrymander it too to give GOP every seat
Like playing chess against a scam artist that took away your rooks when you were looking in another direction.
GODDAMNIT! I don't want to lose Rev Cleaver! Is there anything I can do besides sign form petitions??
Sort of. The 4th District nabs the wealthier, whiter neighborhoods. Looks like the 6th District gets downtown. Everything else gets lumped in with Marshall and Jeff City in the new 5th. It's hard to express how badly this will screw my hometown.
The time will come when this does not end well for Missouri Republicans.
bogus!
Don't be like Oklahoma! Please!
The purpose of a representative democracy is to represent the people, not to carefully divide up the people so you can do what the hell you want to do, no matter what. This is direct treason against the core principles of democracy. It is saying we don't give a f*** about what people want...
🎯
We've always known they have to cheat to win
Kehoe is a Blunt family water boy turned Trumpscout who will do what he needs to do to keep the Talking Yam off his back
Thanks for the post!
That gerrymander is bad enough, but the idea that a ballot proposition needs a majority AND win in every congressional district is insanely anti-democratic
The redistricting gives Trump a pathway to become more extreme, with House reps who just go along. How many GOP reps have opposed Trump's agenda so far? If non-MAGA R's want *less* of a voice, they should keep supporting state leadership/reps who will help steer their state further to the right
Hopefully that governor will be held accountable
What a bunch of feckless jackholes. A lawsuit should be filled under the Constitution. No taxation or election without representation.
This will not end well for Missouri.
I end up in a different district! On the bright side my rep night not be that waste-of-space Mark Alford but I’m sure whoever it is will be just as awful. Republicans can’t win unless they cheat and they know it. So do we.
The real problem are districts represent way too many people. We need to change how the legislature functions. 1. 30 thousand voting age adults per district. 2. Senate proportional representation elected by slates statewide based on 1 seat per smallest states population. Universal suffrage too.
The fight is on. Come the mid-terms half the electorate will find themselves registered in the wrong district or not registered at all.
Remember how they passed a law that will make it impossible for 70 million married women to register to vote unless they have a current passport? I remember.
What??? Says a girl not from Missouri. Whats the law?
This is a US federal law passed this year. In order to register to vote US states are now required to verify proof of identification and proof of citizenship. The names on these two proofs must be identical. Proof of legal name change is not required to be accepted.
So if the name on your birth certificate doesn't match the name on your driver's license when you (re)register to vote, you are SOL, unless you have a proof of citizenship in your married name (i.e. a current passport).
Their goal was to disenfranchise trans people (who have changed their names) under the guise of preventing non-citizens from voting. They get a two-fer, though, because people who changed their names upon marriage (mostly women) will also be disenfranchised.
Holy crap. Thanks for exposing it. I’ll pass it along.
**explaining
I do too!
I have been bringing up the Save Act on TikTok lately because it seems to have been put in the background with all the distractions
Im sure Charlie Munger will be funding a stop campaign against it like he did in california
Republicans don’t believe people should be allowed to vote. Convince me otherwise.
That's not just gerrymandering, it's larrymandering.
Just plain fascist. Or Stalins? communist if you will. Whyss do Democrats get shade, when really its Republicans who are the extremist lunatics.
Oklahoma for decades now. 50th in everything because of it.
Wow. They're really afraid of Kansas City.
Surely your brand of a white- centered, moderate Dem will sway voters regardless of the map
All of this for one seat
The wishes of most big towns and cities is just erased. We need some sort of a proportional representation system.
Not sure how drawing a congressional line could every be considered a "state" first. Like just draw them proportionately? Or better yet just do counties.
Ugh
Its an open Republican admittance - they can't win a fair fight. Recognition no one is backing their efforts; they represent few Americans of any heritage.
This is a FAILED form of government, reducing us to absolute despotism. Time for REVOLUTION
Dirtball clodhopper yokel shit Klanfucker-ruled state, gonna need to Hague some good ol' boys when the fascist regime is crushed
Kansas City - an island of Blue - will be drowned by the Red sea, and MO will lose ONE of its TWO Blue Congressional Reps. No shame.
Looks like effing TN. In 2020 Rs stole Nashville's congressional seat by dividing (butchering) the city into 3 parts. 🤬
Uggh. Looks pretty close to Ohio.
We want all the blue states to do the same. This is an arms race. Unilateral disarmament is not an option in 2026 and 2028. Let’s have a national redistricting commission someday so both parties can compete with the same rules. In the meantime, fight fire with fire.
as a longtime missouri resident it does track with what I know of local republicans in that they absolutely cant stand the very idea of losing and will whine their asses off if they dont get their way (and even when they get their way they still will)
Yet in CA, they’re outraged over he exact same dynamic because he map is blue.
New York, New York!
How are the Missouri farmers doing? Also, I did read the Missouri state house can pass any law without a single woman vote.
Explain this....if all counties in the state are red does that mean voters in those districts can ONLY vote for the GOP candidate? If we're free to vote for either GOP or DEM...can't everyone just vote blue? If not....everyone stays home & boycotts the election & the state forfeits the votes.
We often don’t have candidates on the down ballot, but every congressional district is contested.
Yay!!! Thanks for all your hard work!!!
Is that bc there just aren't people willing to run for office or do they believe they'll be defeated anyway so why waste the time, money & manpower? Maybe the focus should be on making sure every district has a DEM to run and contest the MAGA candidate.
So the possibility to turn a state blue is always there. What if voter turn-out is extremely low? Is there a minimum turn-out requirement for an election? Or if 50 people vote & 45 are Red the election is valid? If folks who normally vote red flip the vote blue...is that the only option to counter?
Maybe state legislatures would be less inclined to gerrymander if the state only receives federal representation propotional to a score based on how gerrymandered the election results are.
Half-baked, but if 40% of the entire state voted dem, but only 10% of the reps are dem, then the state only gets 100 - (40-10) = 70% representation. What does 70% representation look like? Maybe each rep's congressional vote is weighted by 70%.
It's half baked, but the general idea of weighing congressional representation by how gerrymandered a state is might be effective.
Ok, more baking. Here we go. 🔹 Draft Constitutional Amendment (Plain-Language Style) Section 1. Each Representative in the House of Representatives shall ordinarily possess one vote of equal weight.
Section 2. When the distribution of Representatives elected from a State is substantially disproportionate to the statewide share of votes cast for candidates for the House of Representatives,
the votes of Representatives from that State may be weighted to ensure that the overall influence of the State’s delegation reflects the proportion of votes cast by its people.
Section 3. Congress shall have power to establish by law the standards, methods, and procedures for determining disproportionality, and to provide for the manner in which the weight of Representatives’ votes shall be adjusted.
Section 4. Nothing in this Article shall be construed to affect the equal suffrage of the States in the Senate.
In Republican math, 40% equals 0.04.
And prescription prices are down 1500%
Unfucking believable. This gerrymandering is fucking insane. Courts need to throw this shit out. I don't think this country has a future if this shit is allowed to stand.
Come on, blue states governors. Get cracking like California
Indiana is about to look the same way.
Kehoe is a thief, a puppet, a red coat, an anti American.
Stay strong Jess
“Common-sense values” my ass.
Ke is Cankles McTaco Tits' w(ho)re. I never want to hear him say he represents everyone in this state! Anyone with a brain should've known he was going to be a trash governor and that he is full of 💩!
Democrats must wake up and smell the coffee: we are in a second civil war for control of our country.
Guess we don’t have to pay MO state taxes any more. No taxation without representation. All of this because MAGA wants a King. A giant, bumbling, senile, orange, old man.
But even with the current map, Democrats are underrepresented. By proportion, they should have 3 of the 8 seats. If the 435 didn’t exist, MO would have 13 seats (using cube root rule). Five (5) would go to Democrats. Winner-take-all in the House is anti-democratic.
My question is why does 60% of the people vote for republicans? Is Missouri a state that is thriving? What is the poverty level of the state? Unemployment, education statue, health care availability????
KANSAS CITY AS A REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT is too fucking insane to even conceive
THIS is why there was a Voting Rights Act. Until the SCOTUS Six destroyed it.
Seems time for a new declaration of Independence with this lack of representation
Is there any chance of turning any of those red districts blue bc they now have a (slightly?) greater number of Dems than they had previously??
There is. They are diluting their own base.
Hoping so much that fact provides some openings. With great candidates and all out effort…. Maybe could work. @housedemocrats.bsky.social
Our only hope is a parliamentary system but since that’ll never happen we are fucked. Though in fairness to the map, we were already fucked anyway
Kehoe is way too fucking comfortable.
gross
So fair!
Kansas City and Columbia need to fight this. I really hope they do.
Can people vote in the republican primary and write in a democrat?
And the Supreme Court will be AOk with it.
Does it not occur to them that those people will still vote the same way?!
Kehoe was upset when he saw the map .... he asked why there was STILL a section that was left BLUE. [end of sarcasm] or [maybe not]
MO needs to have a tea party…taxation without representation
😤😡🤬
Do I see a teeny tiny spot of blue? The *only* Democratic district? Incredible. Brazen.
Paraphrasing Missourian @sarahkendzior.bsky.social... "Nowhere in America is red or blue. America is purple, like a bruise." We need representation in our government that reflects that purple reality.
Don’t they have to have roughly equal populations in each district??
At least they’re not even trying to be sneaky - just forcing the entire state red. Pretty straightforward that the only votes accepted will be red.
It's not RED unless people VOTE RED. Am I correct? Voting against the gerrymandered lines...isn't that how states "turn blue"?
Columbia, Missouri has to be bluer than this!
Hi Jess! I emailed Kehoe today about this very issue. The map is ridiculous! I live in mid-Missouri and I’m not happy with Kehoe at all.
Thank you, friend
Boy, it really feels like a lot of these Republican gerrymanders could really backfire on them. Iowa just had a huge upset. I can only hope people wake the hell up.
It's a real problem that nobody has any ideas at all for what to do if their shenanigans give them a lock on power in '26.
Maga disgrace, throwing democracy out the window
Kick them out of the Union. They can go it alone. That should work out great and they can have whatever map they want.
Nothing stopping repugs to screw up their attempt to rig the election. Just vote blue!
In order to vote blue, people need to run for blue in every county in MO, many of those counties do not have blue candidates. 🫤
There's gotta be someone here and there. It only takes one with courage.
Misery map
This is a travesty.
Of course!
No, That Missouri map is blatant and illegal gerrymandering.
