Oil and gas is essentially worthless when your supplies of both are a diminishing resource, and you end up paying more to source them than you gain from generating power with them. Maintaining a wind or solar farm is considerably cheaper even in the short term than constantly having to find fuel.

Gas is useless when my car is parked outside my house. But I have devised a way to *store* the gas inside a tank which is inside the car. That way the gas is there to be used at a later time, when I unpark my car. Maybe this storage idea is one you can look into for other forms of energy.
