I feel like the people who really hate religion so much that they are cruel to strangers are much less than point one percent of atheists.
There's also a big difference between being confrontational online, and doing the same in person. I can't remember the last in-person discussion I had with someone who was essentially a stranger. And while I used to go after believers online, I realized that was much more about me than it was them.
