New characters. New storylines. Maybe the producers decided they didn't need him for comic relief this time.
Not your typical middle aged white guy. Proud to be a woke, liberal atheist. My deeply understood facts are better than your deeply held religious beliefs

Atheists aren't "denying" anything. What we're doing is not buying your sales pitch.

Religion is socially reinforced adult make believe.

Yeah that logic doesn't hold. However, I agree that supporting an ideal doesn't mean you're responsible for individual actions. So knock off the crap about the shooter.

I object to your characteristization that secularism has gone too far. The bill hasn't passed yet. All it is is a proposal for now. So stop lying about secularism. I'm a life long atheist (for obvious reasons), and I would object to this bill. Someone praying on a sidewalk isn't doesn't hurt me

Your tithes literally go to protect thousands of predator priests who have destroyed tens of thousands of lives, including causing many suicides. Think about that: you pay priests to abuse children. You have no leg to stand on here.

By "the right words" he meant "the right sales pitch" because a sales pitch is all they have. And it's not even "god" that they're selling, but their idea of god, because they sure as heck can't demonstrate such a thing.

I'm not adhd but I have other executive function issues. My favorite is when people tell me to "just write yourself a note" because I know I'll either forget that I wrote the note, or the note won't register even when it's right in front of me.

Evil is a label that humans apply to behavior or events that are harmful or unproductive. There, in atheist and have accounted for evil.

It's worth noting that any public person who rails against atheism stands to lose authority, influence, power, status, and money if it turns out atheists are right.

I think we're getting into a war of word definitions. I say it's impossible to know anything with absolute certainty. I also say that if there's no empirical reason to believe something, then I won't believe it.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
I completely agree with you. There's no reason to think any god exists. There's no reason to believe any god exists. There's no reason to live as though any god exists. But it's also impossible to say you know no god exists, simply because a negative can't be proven.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Fair enough.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Lifetime atheist here. I never say no god exists, because, it's impossible to know everything. I do say that all gods we know about have been created by humans, so there's no reason to believe any god is real. Maybe this helps clarify things?
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
I think it's less that than religious leaders of today stand to lose status, authority, power, and money if people continue to be swayed away from religious belief. Those leaders will have to face the fact that they're useless and their entire lives are worthless. That's not easy.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social)

Of course there's a difference between secular and atheist. Secular means no religion is favored over another. Atheist means one does not buy into the sales pitch given by theists.

Here's the Google search I did to get the response about how the body systems work to produce feelings of satiation. www.google.com/search?clien...
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
But you seem like someone who gets off using your personal beliefs as a lens through which to judge others. I'd speculate that it's because you're afraid of being judged for your own shit. Maybe try some empathy, understanding, grace and forgiveness towards yourself and others instead.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
There are multiple hormones and enzymes which govern feelings of satiety by acting as on-off switches in the brain. The prevalence of those hormones and receptors varies widely from person to person. So that "gluttonous" person likely has brain chemistry that doesn't satiate as fast as others.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
There's also a big difference between being confrontational online, and doing the same in person. I can't remember the last in-person discussion I had with someone who was essentially a stranger. And while I used to go after believers online, I realized that was much more about me than it was them.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
It probably helps that I was raised secular and not indoctrinated from when I was a child. I've got to imagine deconstructing lends one to externalize a lot of anger.

I'm atheist, and I actually, willingly participated in a seder. It makes no sense to me to stay wrapped in your own cocoon of beliefs when there's a whole world of interesting ideas out there that one could learn from.

I know it's been way longer than 20 years, but didn't Herm Winningham have 3 triples in a single game? He also had a double, which got me thinking. What's the record for total bases in a single game without hitting a home run? Winningham had 11.

I take a bit of exception to this. We know from anthropology that humans have created over 6000 gods (and who knows how many more lost to history). It seems reasonable to conclude the gods popular today are also human-created.

Unfortunately, Trump has cultivated that trauma, leading to a circle of people willing to enable him, or use that trauma against him.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Gotta remember, hurt people hurt people. And I think Trump is the most traumatized person ever elected for president. His father, aside from being a racist asshole hated Trump and let him know it. Trump's favored brother died from alcoholism at age 40. His mom was a raging alcoholic too.

I can't imagine a less enticing sales pitch than, "buy the god-idea I'm selling, or die." But here we are.

I've said this before: imagine how different our world would be if, instead of labeling people as criminals, we looked at people who commit harmful acts as human beings in crisis. But, retribution feels better, and can even be addicting. #RestorativeJustice

Well, if you look into the neuroscience of decision making (I suggest starting with the Stanford lectures of Rob Sapolsky), the findings from fMRI scans during decision making, it's the emotion centers that light up first. We then justify our emotional choices with selective facts and reasoning.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
I get what you're saying, but MAGAts didn't vote for Trump based on facts, or the lack thereof. They voted based on emotion. If we want to sway those voters, we have to appeal to their emotions first.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social)
I have yet to even comprehend what this administration is trying to accomplish with everything they're doing. It's like they're just pissed off they have to follow rules, and trying to prove they're above that or something. It's kinda silly, really.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Offer it to me. I'll take a bite and we can start a new religion. Lol
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social)
If we atheists are right, and god-ideas don't match up with reality, then an awful lot of people would lose authority, influence, status, and even their jobs. It's no wonder the religionists are taught to hate us so much.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
It's also a huge threat to those people who derive their authority from that eternal being actually, well, being a possibility.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Are we talking about any religion, or one specific one like Christianity? Also, I just want to make sure I understand your point: are you saying that autocracies are always kept in line by a benevolent religion that is at least as powerful as the autocracy?
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
What do you think religion is made of? Heck, who do you think made up gods and religions? OTHER HUMANS!
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Agreed. Better to think of religious people as victims of bad ideas. It's also worth noting that intelligent people can more easily resolve cognitive dissonance like that experienced by religious adherents.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Rigged or missing 2026 elections is the final notice to get out. I wonder if there are countries out there that would offer asylum.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social)
Further, we should remind Christians that none of them has ever had a relationship with either their god or Jesus. What they're doing is imagining a relationship with an idea derived from mythological portrayals, and reinforced socially by other Christians.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social)
We #atheists ought to start calling religious assertions, arguments, proselytizing, and witnessing what they really are: sales techniques. And what they're selling isn't actually their god. It's the idea of their god. Because, if their god existed, they could just point to it and say, "there it is."
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
It's neither an argument, nor an assertion. Theist attempts to convince others that there is substance behind the idea of their god is a sales pitch. And if I decide against buying something after hearing the sales pitch I don't owe anyone a justification or explanation.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
I get what you're saying, although I'm not sure it makes sense to favor one institution over another when the real danger to human freedom and thriving is authoritarianism in any form. And authoritarianism can come in the form of government (fascism), business (oligarchy), or religion( theocracy).
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Anthropology tells us that humans have created over 6000 gods. All of those started as ideas originating in the human brain. What makes yours different? Also, if something exists, then it exists and can be demonstrated. You can't debate something into (or out of) existence.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
"God" is nothing more than an idea. Because of that, debating the existence of a diety seems rather silly.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
You seem triggered. That's not a good mindset for a discussion to learn about each other. So I'll wish my best to you and yours and step away from this debacle. Have a nice day.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Sorry, but I don't owe you justification for why I reject your sales pitch. I get to walk my path just as you walk yours, and neither of us owes the other anything.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't have to account for anything. Otherwise, we all would have to account for everything, and that's both unworkable and nonsensical. Only someone making a claim needs account for that claim. My claim is that humans have created thousands of gods, including the Christian god.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Proselytizing is just a hard sell meant to get others to buy into the idea of your god. Until you can actually demonstrate your god, though, the only thing I'm rejecting is your sales pitch. And yes, humans have created and believed in thousands of gods. It's part of our evolved neurology.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social)
If your god existed, you wouldn't have to sell me on it. You could just point to it and say, "there it is!"
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social)
One thing none of these Christian Nationalist types have yet to explain is why I, as a non-Christian, should be subject to rules and laws that are derived from their current biblical understanding.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Nope. It's about keeping the nation secular. That is without state sanctioned religion, so that each person can live according to his or her own conscience. Or do you think the US government should be able to force someone to present them themselves as Christian, no matter their real beliefs?
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Hard disagree. Atheism is a rejection of the theist's sales pitch.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
I wish we could get out of the mindset that their god is something that needs proving. Instead, what's going on is the theist is trying to sell us on something without letting us experience it first. And we're rejecting their sales push.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
Imagine you come to me and attempt to sell me a car, but you won't let me see or drive it before I purchase it. If I decide against making that purchase, I don't owe you a justification for rejecting your sales push. It's the same with atheism: I don't owe you a defense.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
I think some people have a pathological need to control everything, without realizing life doesn't ever work out that way. Also, keep in mind the genocide is his attempt to avoid prosecution for corruption.

Pedos are like most people in western and European-influenced cultures, in that most are indoctrinated into some form of Christianity. In Hindu cultures, the pedos are mostly Hindu. In Islam (founded by a pedo!), they're mostly Muslim, and so on.
Dispatches from The Empire States of America (@wrongverb.bsky.social) reply parent
I think it's a blood magic cult, with an unhealthy obsession with sex. The pedo stuff is the result of Christianity targeting children, as pedophiles will be attracted to any group with lots of children they can potentially victimize.
