I read that keeping horses in flats was/is commonplace in S Ireland
I was in Brooklyn last week and out of the back of the Uber I was in I saw a lady ringing the doorbell at the top of some steps into a house, accompanied by a small pony. Also a friend of mine sent me a photo of a donkey getting onto a bus in Dublin.

One of our project managers, building a hotel near Cannon St in the 70s, used to bring his Shetland pony in in the back of his car and take it for a walk in the park at lunchtime
