It's not bizarre. Rich people can afford to travel to enjoy whatever right they want, whenever they feel like enjoying it. Live in Texas and your daughter gets knocked up? Fly to LA or Paris to "take care of it." Need a Covid vaccine? Your doctor will get it for you. That's the bottom line.

RFK pretty clearly just believes in this stuff. It’s not some wheels-within-wheels plot

I was more thinking about why Trump is embracing it: Anything to hold the coalition together. RFK is an idiot.

He both deeply believes in it and is shockingly lazy about his beliefs, so they come across as unserious and semi-coherent. This is typical of cranks - obsessively into a topic while somehow not willing or able to develop any rigorous understanding of it.

This is disorienting because if you spent a huge % of your waking life on an issue, why wouldn't you effort to know it in and out? But that lazy obsessiveness is why crackpots are able to be crackpots. Creationists are like that. Free energy types are like that. It's just how people are.

“Creationists are like that” but the money and power behind the movement is not. Discovery Institute, Center for Science and Culture, etc spend most of their effort knowingly lying to students about what the theory of evolution says and what the evidence for it is.

Physics isn't my area, but when I heard physicists talk about the cranks they get, one theme that comes up over and over again is people who have spent absurd amount of time developing idiosyncratic theories while not even being able to do linear algebra. This is a common way people fail.

I think this also leads to the "It's just eugenics" people and their interlocutors talking past each other. The hazinsss means that RFK's worldview isn't *not* eugenics even as it isn't plain eugenics either, because a lot of things are in the background radiation and will seep in if not confronted.

Like Heisenberg reinventing linear algebra because he didn't know it.
