First bird of my day: a wood pigeon sitting on a chimney, blending in to a very grey sky but I know that dull sky is hiding the most epic ones who may just scream past any minute. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

First bird of my day: SWIFTS reeling and screaming in the sky above the historic city of Canterbury. I watched them over the cathedral yesterday evening. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
Uniform Swiftlets. A bit Swifty!
And Cardinal Lorikeets back in Guadalcanal
What a Pacific adventure you're having! 🤩
A goldfinch made a bouncy flight above the front garden and alighted on an aerial two doors down to sing. Followed by a second goldfinch similarly overflying. At the same time a jackdaw strode the roof just above the gutter looking down intently.
The goldfinches are upping their first-bird game lately!
😁💛🖤🤍❤️🎶🐦 Also, a pair kept me company in the garden in the afternoon, singing from a neighbour's tree and individually perching on the other neighbour's TV aerial and belting out their tune! 🥰
I've just watched a couple of YouTube videos featuring the European goldfinch. What a joy to listen to!
Yes, and these birds are indefatigable during our summers, pausing to sing on boughs and aerials for extended periods throughout the day. Believed to have cost the species dearly in the 19th C. as they were caged with the intention I suppose of domesticating their song. Horrible to contemplate.
#FirstBirdOfMyDay. A Swift!!! Gliding alone across the grey sky high above the trees as I look down the back gardens from the back bedroom window at the top my steep street. A tiny scythe cutting the sky feeding on insects.
Robin and Great Tit in the garden. Sunny here.
#FirstBirdOfMyDay: The ubiquitous, but no less appreciated, American robin. #WhatsYours
Well said! Every wild first bird is a joy and a privilege to behold. 💚🐦
#FirstBirdOfMyDay a very scruffy looking magpie, looked embarrassed to be out in that state!
Robin on the fence attacking a sparrow that tried to take its place, then hopping up to the fence post for a better view of other potential usurpers. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
A dunnock pecking around on the front lawn below the hawthorn feeders searching for tasty pickings. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
I don't think I saw a single dunnock on my recent UK trip 🥲
Sightings here have been few too since their Spring antics.
Dull morning. Eventually a blackbird perching on the cherry bought. Brown margins to those black primaries. End of the day, swifts screaming overhead one of a brace of singing song thrushes #FirstBirdofMyDay
Swifts, both Common and Pallid, hundreds over the city of Toledo where I'm doing the tourist thing for a couple of days.
First bird of my day: a Wood Pigeon perched on a telephone pole on a misty, calm morning. #Firstbirdofmyday
A Herring Gull who flipped over a dish of water and then looked at it with a confused expression. At least it didn't try to fly off with it this time.
😄
First bird I could hear was the little wren in the churchyard "giving it laldy" (Scottish term meaning giving all you've got) in the morning sunshine. The first bird I actually saw was a scattering of elder ducks, bobbing about in the distance on the basin... #firstbirdifmyday
Cockatoos everywhere this cold, windy morning, perched on 2 of their lookout trees and up on the street wires as I drive down the road and chaotic flying, sulphur crests perky and manic screeching all along the highway. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours
