Will be interesting to watch what Trump will do when he realises that he is the looser. If Europe does not wake up it might become very ugly. For example Spain is very far from the line of conflict. But once this line starts moving westwards it will change fast and dramatically.

Second, US threats to sanction Russia are basically gone--and the direction of travel is about getting back to business with Russia. Third--Trump admitted that he and Putin agreed that Ukraine had to give Russia territory, and its up to the Ukrainians to accept that.
Worth mentioning that Trump just tweeted after the "great and very successful day" at Anchorage, he now wants Ukraine to agree a deal right away before any ceasefire--which was the basic Ukrainian and European position. So Trump is now openly aligning with Putin.

This simply a world-wide PR stunt agreed to by Trump & Putin to make it appear as if Trump is peace deal maker that gets him his coveted Nobel Peace Prize. Putin appears to agree to a peace deal that allows him to keep all illegally captured Ukraine land. All without Zielinski involvement.

When Trump says he wants a lasting "peace agreement" rather than a mere ceasefire, I think 1) he is implicitly echoing Putin's demand that the "root causes of the conflict" be addressed, and 2) he is reiterating his misguided land-for-peace approach. So, no change: he is just Putin's relay.
He just wants a “peace” for few years so he can claim the win and wine about the noble peace price. He doesn’t give a shit about any demands or arguments at all or that Russia will restart the war after a couple of years.

I’m not sure anything has changed. A nothing-burger. Mainly, a distraction from the “Epstein” mess that was picking up steam. Putin simply provided cover for the President to do… nothing. And leave everyone to speculate. The longer the war lasts, the weaker, and further from their goals R becomes.

Absolutely. Wondering how much consultation there was prior to the summit. I imagine the Canadians are already taking as many precautions as they can, with not so covert threats about expansion coming from the US. Hopefully if needed there's good intel from UK, European and Australian sources.

Many astute, frank bservations. I would add that Friday’s events signal a progression. Since at least 2016, Trump has repeatedly told Americans (and the world generally) that NATO is dysfunctional, greedy, slothful. In 2019-20, he demonstrated that Ukraine is something to exploit for advantage.
The staged performance in February of insulting, demeaning Zelenskyy was designed to cause viewers to see the Ukrainian president as low, greedy, unworthy of ally status. Such visuals are a well known propaganda tactic. Visuals cut through & sink in better than words. Now compare these two visuals.
I’ve had no reason to believe that Trump honestly believed that Putin could be persuaded to stop the invasion - or that Trump wanted it to stop. He sees Zelenskyy as being on his back foot & easier to manipulate & extract concessions from. For ex: the minerals deal he pressured Ukraine to accept.
It’s all been a manipulation: of European leaders, of U.S. citizens, of his fans who still think he’s a great deal-maker, the master strategist. All a show while the real deal was exploiting Ukraine & getting the world to accept the invasion of weaker nations by the powerful.
