Canada should forget about the USA. The USA won't "recover" from Trump/MAGA madness for decades.
You would almost think that Canadians lost their lives helping Europe beat the last dictator.
Yes!!!
I am Canadian and fully support either EU or Canzuk...or both.
Trade more with them ✅ Join the EU ❌ Politics don't change geography. We would get the short end of the stick just for being 5000 km away.
Maybe
RE: the note on Albertans wanting to join the US: no they don't. Support for that, even in Alberta, is only around 10%. Even Albertan separatists (close to 1/3) don't want to be Americans. Support in the rest of the country is mid-single digits - vapour. dailyhive.com/canada/alber...
The juice is not worth the squeeze for either side, in terms of actual membership.
We can have strong ties and agreements without Canada really be a member. I’mnnot sure what would be the benefits for either EU or Canada atm.
I think it’s both to Canada’s & the EU’s benefit. The USA is proving itself under the trump administration to be an unreliable partner in many areas.
Accession to the EU: 1. It must be a European state. enlargement.ec.europa.eu/enlargement-...
EU needs to reform itself first, change that they need every bodies vote for every minor thing. Like one single country can block progress of any matter and extort some special conditions for itself. And then if they are serious about Ukraine, they have lots of work to do there, maybe UK again too?
Sigh- at the highest -level it is a consensus system. That is by design and is not going to be reformed. At lower levels, it’s consensus majority system, which works quite well. Canada would be smart to join the EU.
Consensus system works well when you have a few members like-minded. This isn't the case for EU for a long time, imagine Canada having total different needs then Croatia or Malta. It will only get worse. Same point as people ignoring how many difficulties EU will face integrating Ukraine.
The “consensus system” imho works better than a singular veto system which is operative in the UN.
What's the difference in practice?
The EU has successfully negotiated ‘abstentions’ from troublesome nations (Hungary, Slovakia) as a work around for many policies. However, of course, new members must be voted in by all. 🤷🏻
We love them already. 😍
We must push 🇷🇺 over the edge !! #RussiaIsATerroristState committing a full-scale genocide in plain sight. It is our duty towards Humanity to help 🇺🇦 win the war. Whatever victory takes, right now 🔥 #SlavaUkraïni 🇱🇹🇩🇰🇳🇱🇸🇪🇫🇮🇵🇱🇫🇷🇩🇪🇮🇹🇪🇺🇬🇧🇳🇴🇨🇦✊🇺🇦
