The Dem national "leadership" is so weak, and people are so hungry to see any fight at all from almost any Dem, that people are attracted even to Gavin Newsom, a centrist and crass political opportunist who has no real beliefs, but has worked out that "being seen to fight" is a good look.

Of course, this does just further degrade American democracy and polarize the country, but the dems' past ideas didn't work great either. Probably best to have someone doing this, who will NOT be running for the white house, but I'm not sure this level of strategy still exists. 😞

Though there are several areas on which Newsom and I might disagree, if he is the candidate - and we might possibly (hope) have elections - he would have my support. No niche issue could compel me to withhold my support when faced with this authoritarian regime.

I respectfully disagree. Those of us from CA know Newsome is a shallow, narcissistic bully in a suit who bows to money. (Just like Trump) Many of us don’t trust him because we’ve seen his games before. I far prefer the courage, and decency of Govs Waltz and Pritzker.

Sure, but Shumer is a legislative leader, and keeping a Senate caucus together is a full time job. He's gumming up appointments so badly that Republicans have floated changing the rules. Don't look to legislative leaders for national leadership.
