In further heartbreaking tree news: at some point in the past few weeks the 250+ year old live oak in the backyard of our rental .. came down, somehow. Nobody else seems to be around or ever called us, & the tree was obviously cut up & hauled away by someone. I could care less about the carport…

I hate this. Trees are both charming as hell and play such an underappreciated role in combating heat.

known also as a buttonwood. Original NY Stock exchange met under a buttonwood (sycamore) all those years ago.

Oh my god there’s some incredible pieces for milling here (which the arborist may be taking to do that in trade for cutting down the tree I was not involved in those negotiations)

What a tragedy, man. My neighborhood has a ton of live oaks and palms and other Florida native trees on various people's properties and they provide lots of shade and color but every so often some new move-in decides trees suck and cuts one down. Always makes me sad.
