DEMs have done a terrible job of doing outreach in East Palo Alto, and generally have no idea about the people, the issues, and the culture of EPA. The Democratic Party has a tough time communicating with Latino Communities like EPA.

I would like some more specifics, please. Which Democrats. CalDEMs? Local congressional leaders like Sam Liccardo? Gavin Newsom? Or Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer?

I am specifically referring to the SMC Dems, EPA is too small of a city to have any reason why Newsom or any of the other national figures would pay attention. I will give kudos to Josh Becker, who has invested lots of time and energy in EPA and has served our district very well.

Got it. I wondered because Liccardo is my congressperson, and I've been pleased with him so far in his first year. But EPA is another district. I don't know enough about political dynamics to know any reason why a national figure would come to EPA now that crime figures aren't newsworthy

I did see Liccardo at a charity event in EPA a couple of months ago! Our congressman is Kevin Mullin, who pops into EPA once in a while.

My overall impression is that the SMC Dems pay little attention to EPA, don't understand the dynamics of the community, and have an idea of what they think EPA should be which clashes with what the community wants & needs.

Yes. And then they come around asking for votes when they don’t have any sort of presence in the community. It’s a huge problem. And we are trying to be more present and frankly just listen to what people are saying. We have a great group of people of various backgrounds.
