Perhaps the most significant news is that we're working to get a new track field, soccer field, library, and City Hall built on the Bloomhouse site on Pulgas Avenue. We'll have more updates on this major project as it moves forward.
• Emergency Preparedness: We're getting the city ready for the eventual earthquake that we can expect to happen in our lifetime by funding new emergency response measures.
• YMCA Access: With our funding, the YMCA will be free on weekends for residents and will offer swim classes, basketball leagues, and enhanced senior activities
• Community and Cultural Events: We've funded movies, music, and other cultural events at the EPACENTER. Look forward to live music of every type, including jazz, blues, salsa, banda, reggae, samba, bossa nova, and mariachi.
• Park Improvements: New scoreboards at MLK and Jack Farrell parks are being installed, which addresses a longstanding request from the Little League.
• New Park and Street Lighting: We've funded new field lighting for both Jack Farrell and Martin Luther King parks, which will allow kids to practice past 5 p.m. during the winter. We're also funding new street lighting to make our streets safer and better lit.
• Parking Enforcement: New funding for parking enforcement will help remove unregistered and broken-down vehicles and increase enforcement of the 72-hour parking rule.
• Code Enforcement: We've directed and funded staff to enforce our code on "Tier III" violations, which include things like broken-down vehicles, trash and old furniture in front yards, and overgrown vegetation blocking sidewalks.

I did see Liccardo at a charity event in EPA a couple of months ago! Our congressman is Kevin Mullin, who pops into EPA once in a while.
If you can't parachute off of it, it isn't a skyscraper.
I am specifically referring to the SMC Dems, EPA is too small of a city to have any reason why Newsom or any of the other national figures would pay attention. I will give kudos to Josh Becker, who has invested lots of time and energy in EPA and has served our district very well.
My overall impression is that the SMC Dems pay little attention to EPA, don't understand the dynamics of the community, and have an idea of what they think EPA should be which clashes with what the community wants & needs.
DEMs have done a terrible job of doing outreach in East Palo Alto, and generally have no idea about the people, the issues, and the culture of EPA. The Democratic Party has a tough time communicating with Latino Communities like EPA.
My son is at the age where he will soon start to learn how to drive and my message is, "drive like the people around you are drunk, stoned, and fiddling with their phone."
We really need to do environmental review in the obstetrics wards of american hospitals.

“Inclusionary zoning” is one of those policies that sounds great at first but then when you look at the actual impact it ends up just being a massive tax on new apartments that exempts single family homes, accomplishing the exact opposite of the intended effect

In a related theme, I had four vaccines today: shingles, MMR (test showed I did not have immunity), Hep A, & Hep B. My blood may not meet the purity test, but I hope to not have easily preventable disfiguring diseases in my future.
I've had COVID once. I can't help but think that the 7 vaccines I took had something to do with my mild symptoms and quick recovery.

FYI, East Palo Alto has a life expectancy between 75.8 - 81.3 years. I have recently seen people claiming that EPA has a life expectancy of 62 year, 20 years less than other cities in EPA. This data - which is on the city website - is not accurate.

Today, the House votes on whether to begin the process of gutting Medicaid, throwing millions off their health care & making it worse for those who remain. Trump says he doesn’t want to cut Medicaid, but he’s letting the GOP push this. As usual, he’s lying. All to pay for tax cuts for the rich.
Who cares if there is a project that can be built with 25% affordable if there are twenty others you've prevented by that preposterous requirement?
Unfunded inclusionary zoning is a tax on new housing that worsens the housing affordability crisis it purports to ameliorate and only "works" when market prices for housing are high above the actual cost of development. It's bad policy and we should stop doing it entirely.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.
My first and definitely last time working with the Los Angeles Times. Editing out the most urgent point of an OpEd in the minutes before sending to press while then also assigning a title and image that suggest an argument entirely opposite to the author’s clear intent is pretty shitty.

Excessive tenant protections make landlords be extremely picky who they rent to, as eviction is time consuming and difficult. As a result, anyone with less than perfect credit/work history will not be rented to. There are unintended consequences to making eviction difficult.
