So much better to clear the backlog, reinstate safe and legal routes and start changing the conversation on immigration to draw out the positives. Was not in their election manifesto

Whatever happened to the "Australian points-based immigration system" that Farage said was the panacea? Isn't that what we now have for discretionary immigration? Imo the small number of refugees is a moral obligation and besides, a drop in the ocean numbers-wise.

Agreed. Process them quickly and get them contributing to society and starting their new lives. Having a back log stuck in a hotel just makes it own headline.

"Stop the Boats" - the easiest way would be to create a safe passage. Invite asylum applications in the Paris embassy, then stick them on a Eurostar. Literally could solve it overnight and kill the gangs' business model.
