Exactly right. It takes a huge amount of expertise, facilities, and tech to make GMP medicines for humans. If someone leaked the process before the patent was filed, some generics would just instantaneously file the patent. It's a nice thought, but as rational as "What if everything was free?"
just as an aside, "everything should be free" is the subject of an entire set of academic fields, not some irrational pie-in-the-sky wish it is not only rational, it would be easier to accomplish than maintaining current systems and far more advantageous to Humanity
Sorry, I'm only saying it's irrational within our current system. As much as I'd like a utopia, it's not ever going to happen here. The rich will never give up their advantage.

Well, the original statement was entirely detached from reality and how things work. Sorry to bring things back to earth. I think we should all have food, shelter, and be able to afford health care, but feeling that way isn't enough to change human greed and entrenched capitalism.
Health care must be free.
