So what you’re saying is that you came very close to dooring a person riding a bike in a bike lane from the sounds of it. I’m really happy that person is okay!! Dooring can cause serious harm.

For future reference you should always look before opening your car door.
on dooring - "Please keep in mind that bicycles are much more vulnerable in a collision. Motorists must realize that they are operating a large vehicle and with that comes the responsibility to ensure that it is safely operated" novascotia.ca/tran/publica...
Great link! Also if it’s scary to have a person on a 30lb bicycle come close to colliding with you just imagine if they were operating over 100 times that weight in steel, in a vehicle capable of travelling at speeds over 100km/h faster 😬
I forgot the First Law of Halifax Biking: cyclists can do no wrong; when conflicts arise, drivers and pedestrians are always at fault. My bad.
No, I am just aware of the setup of that bike lane that sees hundreds of cyclists a day and has car parking on one side of it, and can imagine based on your post history that it that person yelled at you, it was more likely that you gave them a good fright and good reason to do so.
Drivers have more responsibility to keep others safe because of the disproportionate amount of harm they can do. Pedestrians and cyclists both cannot do that kind of harm, if they do something dangerous they only endanger themselves, unlike drivers.
Unless the cyclist was going over 50 why would it be their fault
It's never the cyclist's fault. You of all people should know that.
That's ridiculous but ok
