I dunno about SPS but here in the next district north we have been embracing austerity for quite some time and are to the point where the next step is going to be cutting teachers/classes/programs. Our neighboring district cut all of its music programs last year. Just! tax! the wealthy!

damn, so you're saying that shoreline and northshore are in more dire straits than people imagine? I mean, I'm in Marysville, so we just got our academic calendar at the end of July.

I think Northshore is in slightly better shape. Edmonds is the one cancelling music programs. Shoreline is ok for now but has a huge deficit and has spent the last 3 years cutting costs as much as possible. There’s not that much left at this point before programs start being affected.

The fact is that support from the state is wholly insufficient and every school district is struggling. Every one. And there is no level of austerity that will fix that, long term.
