I gasped when I saw it in the garden this morning!
Seattle-ish. She/her/hers. It’s anti, not auntie (but I’m not anti-OTHER Angies). I like nerdery. Cultivating an obsession with dahlias.

Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Here it is from the side; you can see the petals are pretty much as open as they get.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
This pretty much is fully open! The center might open a smidge more but once you can see the actual center of the flower it’s past its prime.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social)
Sundahlia! This is such a stunner. Remains unclear whether it is Miss Amara or BQ Alan (first bloom looked like Amara, this one looks more like Alan) but WHO CARES LOOK AT IIIIIIIITTTT. 🌱

I bought us a new cribbage board last Christmas and chose one with three tracks rather than two because I hoped R might be into it. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Ohhhhh I see. Yeah that is weird and offputting.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Ward is def not a theater term but I feel like it’s really common for the student council to have a president? Ours has the usual officer titles. Maybe I’m not understanding the reference.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
I narrowly missed being skunked in our second game!
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social)
Taught my kid to play cribbage today and they promptly beat me two games in a row.

Technically nothing but a lot of questions about why That Guy hasn’t been seen in public or online for several days + cancelled planned travel to one of his golf courses over a holiday weekend + the widely reported bruising and other physical symptoms = ????
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Hi you! Weird you just happened to be here! Anyway, nice to see you!
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Second only to Four Seasons Total Landscaping. Honorable mention (on Bluesky): couchfucking.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
What the hell
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social)
For no reason at all I am thinking of what Old Twitter was like the night That Guy tested positive for COVID. No reason at all. *plugs phone in to charge*

My employer (big state university) has some newer halls with suites and private bathrooms but also plenty of the classic style.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
I think newer residence halls have different layouts etc (still the same oak furniture though) but a lot of the fancy rooms you see online are parents going overboard with decorating and just eating the damage fees, or so I have been told.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Oak lofted beds/bookshelves/desks!
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social)
I know quite a few people dropping their kids off at college for the first time and they are all posting dorm room pictures and it’s strangely soothing to see that dorms and dorm furniture have not changed at all since I graduated almost 30 years ago.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah a lot of lice have grown resistant to the pyrethrins, unfortunately. Comb comb comb, in all directions!
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Right? So cozy.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Isn’t it pretty? I bought it randomly a couple of years ago to fill a hole in my garden and it’s thriving!
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure! I am flattered!
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Ok but what if you fall suddenly ill and can’t make it? I’m just saying.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, same here! Great year for hydrangeas and roses. Still pretty happy with my dahlias though.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s been a weird year! I have some plants going bananas and others that have not even put out any buds yet.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes! Female one I think.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social)
My kid’s school has been putting up fencing over the summer so that randos can’t walk through campus. I hate it. It looks like a prison. I hate that this is what schools have to do instead of we as a society just deciding to melt all the fucking guns.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh no oh no, I’m so sorry. How scary.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
More and more every day
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Well yeah, of course I’m concerned about the population writ large, but my immediate focus is my kid.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah I just don’t know if pharmacists/docs will even give them? I have asthma so can get one, I’m mostly concerned about R.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m hoping that maybe their pediatrician will still do them since AAP has recommended for everyone? I dunno.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social)
EFFFFFFFFFFF so this means I can’t get my 16yo a vaccine this year? Fantastic.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
SAME HERE. I still hope they will extend the age more as they get more data.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Shampoo helps but the real key is daily combing to get all the nits off. They really need to be removed mechanically.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Also when R got lice we went straight to a lice salon. It was worth the money to get a thorough combing and guidance for followup care.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Get the good comb! It’s this one a.co/d/bXAIBUI
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
I was not prepared!
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
YES, I have been thinking about this a lot.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social)
Incredibly disappointing news.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social)
In case you need a reminder that dahlias do weird things: these two flowers are from the same plant. 🌱
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Thank you, they are really hitting their stride right now!
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
That was maybe my favorite part.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social)
Hell yeah, Governor Ferguson. I don’t agree with him on everything but this is solid.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
It sounds like it was the containers themselves that were contaminated? Who knows.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
LOL. But seriously how did the cesium get there???
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Yup. But hey, Skittles are gonna be made with natural dyes, so who is really winning?
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
I mean I am glad the systems in place caught this AND ALSO how TF did cesium get there??
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social)
The fuck?
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
I cannot BELIEVE that Henry is off to college. I started reading your blog before he was born!!!
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Seems like a good use of our time
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
That song is heartbreaking to see live. The soundtrack just does not capture how sad it is.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Fair but the music is so good
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
My school had a good water fountain and a mediocre one and if the line was too long at the good one we just WOULDN’T DRINK ANYTHING.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Omg you could totally sell photos of these—they are so beautiful all together!
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
I have the Broadway version (with her and Bernadette Peters) on DVD. It’s so good.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
It smells SO GOOD! #petrichor
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Rowan’s middle and high schools have not had lockers. Kids just schlep everything around with them. Honestly it is probably a lot easier in some ways.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
I hope people are up in arms about this. Unbelievable.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Are you KIDDING ME
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social)
All gold-colored trophies, obviously. 🏆
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Until recently ours could not even put sunscreen on children. Probably they were just too busy with the surgeries.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
BEST AIRPORT. You forgot to mention the enormous fireplace and comfy chairs. Also the parking is really cheap.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh that would upset me. I mean in the grand scheme it’s minor, but also it doesn’t really feel heartfelt, does it?
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
The tomatoes are SO GOOD right now. I put a whole bunch in a pasta salad yesterday.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
My coworker definitely sees it as a writing tool and it is just NOT.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
(Not speaking of you specifically, just in general.)
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
It can be valuable for this but what I have seen is that people don’t evaluate the outline it puts out to see if it makes sense/aligns with objectives. They just go with it. One of the things I worry about the most is the loss of critical thinking/evaluation of writing.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
This is a big thing for me as well, not to mention just the general enshittification of our information ecosystem.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
This particular coworker is all in on AI, uses it for everything. I find this ridiculous while acknowledging that there are SOME use cases where it MIGHT be useful.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s seemingly inevitable and also it sucks. It’s bad at writing and it does not save any time!
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
In case you were wondering why this document sucks: Tons of redundancy/repetition Vague language Poor organization jn bulleted lists Using emojis as bullets which is a dead giveaway for AI-generated content BTW Not in my employer’s brand or voice Does not actually refer to my employer at all
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social)
Coworker gave me a document to edit that is mostly or all AI-written AND IT SUCKS which should surprise no one and ALSO this team has a writer (ME!) so thanks for the reminder that you don’t value my work, coworker.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Can I put my name on some kind of waiting list right now?
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent

(I work on the UWA team that supports faculty applying for some of these programs.)
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m not saying that funders are definitely not cancelling programs; I think diversity-focused ones are especially at risk now. But so far early-career ones seem pretty stable. There just aren’t enough to make up the loss of fed funding, and also most don’t pay IDCs which is a problem.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
At UW we are seeing a big uptick in faculty apps to private funder opportunities. So far we have not seen many (any?) cancellations of programs from funders, though. Most fellowship programs don’t accept applications on a rolling basis; it’s quite common to see a “not accepting apps” message.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Whoops, 🌱
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Ugh this is such a classist decision, I hate it.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Whoa! Our law is 1+ mile from school. Is there public transit available to make up the difference? (I think I know the answer to this but hope springs eternal.)
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
It is kind of hilarious that even advanced computing can’t tell all these old white dudes apart.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
Poor John Adams, president for -86 years and they still mix him up with Thomas Jefferson.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
The fact is that support from the state is wholly insufficient and every school district is struggling. Every one. And there is no level of austerity that will fix that, long term.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
I think Northshore is in slightly better shape. Edmonds is the one cancelling music programs. Shoreline is ok for now but has a huge deficit and has spent the last 3 years cutting costs as much as possible. There’s not that much left at this point before programs start being affected.
Angela (@antiangie.bsky.social) reply parent
I dunno about SPS but here in the next district north we have been embracing austerity for quite some time and are to the point where the next step is going to be cutting teachers/classes/programs. Our neighboring district cut all of its music programs last year. Just! tax! the wealthy!
