Is the idea here that it would be nearly impossible to recover from, even with near perfect scores on all other assignments? I guess it would make the risk/reward calculation to use LLMs even for assignments that have less weight a lot more negative.
The idea is to specificaly make a negative expectation value WITHOUT failing the student. "If there is a 50% chance of me catching you it is better not to turn in the work than try to cheat". It basically ensures that rational cheaters who know the system have no rational basis to cheat.
