Statistically it has not improved education to the extent worth spending $238 billion on it. In its current form its a jobs program lobbied by the Teachers union. Our reps don't sign off on it cuz of education. They sign off on it because it brings government jobs to their district.

What you should be asking everyone is, "why is there only 8% increase in enrollment with a 138% increase in non-teacher positions? What are these non-teacher positions doing to improve education? and Why have we had stagnant test scores since the inception of the Department of Ed?"

No what we should be asking is what's going to happen to education if we lose the department of ed. Are disabled kids going to be provided for? Are small rural schools going to survive without funding? Will education suffer without the research?

The problem isn't in the special programs. The problem is a lack of results. There are 4 public highschools here where I live. They are all outdated and underfunded and have been for decades. Testing scores for literacy at all time lows in these schools. No one held accountable.

Also department of ed doesn't control curriculum or anything so why is it their fault that test scores aren't improving?

Like I said the department of education is a federal jobs program. It provides funding. The funding is supposed to advance education for all and promotes standards like the Common Core State Standards. It also oversees accountability measures under laws like the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

The Research and Data Collection department conducts and funds educational research through entities like the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). It collects data on educational outcomes, school environments, and educational practices.

Its an outline for education. In government when there are not specifics then you get wasteful spending. When you get wasteful spending in the education department you get..... Poor test results.

Also when the department is gone who is going to investigate discrimination in schools?

That would be called the department of justice.

Yes but trump wants to end the department of education, I'm concerned what that means for funding to students who need it. It's a possibility it could be transferred to another department to handle which would be okay. You keep bringing up test scores when I'm talking about funding

Are states able to maintain their current level of success without the dept of ed? Will schools in poor areas suffer even more without their grants and funding? Will teachers suffer without a national system collecting data on what is successful?

Success is stagnant & has been since the dep. of ed was created. I am 100% for gutting the dep. of ed. & replacing it w/ an anti-lobbiest firewall. Focused strictly on a curriculum that prepares kids to be a contributor to society. Math, Science, Engineering, Finance, History.

Department of Ed doesn't control curriculum, so do you want there to be a federal government body that controls state curriculum?

What other curriculum is there other than Math: Add, subtract, geometry, etc. Science: Chemistry, Biology, Physics History: So we learn from past mistakes. Finance: investing, supply and demand, premium vs discount, interest rates, loans, and mortgages. You have to set standards.
