To be absolutely clear, I was not in *any* way denigrating either Dr. Mann or the university. The university's name was just amusing to an American ear--an educational uni as opposed to one that is not for education. Thank you for the explanation of the name. That's interesting info.

I totally understand! As an education prof who has travelled to China several times and visited these universities, I just wanted explain. You’re right—the names do come across as a bit strange to westerners!

BTW, I think it reminded me of the Hospital for Sick Children, which I passed by in Toronto a few years ago. I'm not convinced that there are many hospitals for healthy children. :-)

Totally! 🙂 as you likely know, the hospital is often colloquially referred to as “Hospital for Sick Kids, “ or even just “Sick Kids.” Weird but understandable.
