Pushing back or critiquing AI seems analogous to physically attacking a hologram. It is profitable and so it is coming, why try to slow its arrival instead of finding ways to turn it against its original purpose?

The fight is against the replacement of humans by AI, a replacement that has yet to happen and is not at all guaranteed to play out as the creators intend.

Because it is a fight against the virtual, not the actual.

you think AI is virtual? I’m struggling here. are you not aware of how AI is created? of the exploited labour that went into cleaning the data, the environment that is impacted, the mis/disinfo that is rife, the non consensual use of people’s art and work… I could go on. this ain’t virtual, buddy.

But you aren’t attacking every commodity, just a specific one, and one that is coming anyway.

You aren’t arguing for improvement of society, you’re arguing against one specific technology. And I’m not shaming you for participating in society, I’m saying that there is a tactical error here.

It is produced as anything under capitalism is produced.

And you’re getting further. We do not steer this ship, capital does: it has evicted us from the Real. Find ways to make weapons of what it brings into existence. All this protesting AI is at best an eager performance. Figure out how to weaponize it.

It does nothing to touch the reality of the matter: AI is happening regardless because it is profitable. We don’t steer the ship, Capital does. This entire standpoint is built on the (I believe false) assumption that we have any say in whether or not it will come to be.
