Look at the world right now and tell me, seriously, that any of it seems sane. Is this a world that humans made, or is this the product of a cold and irrational drive towards maximization of profit at all costs?
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
If the system doesn’t strike you as insane, you aren’t understanding it. Capitalism is inhuman. We are, via wage labor, it’s fuel. This is basic Marxism. But we are slow, concerned with ourselves, inefficient. AI comes to cut us out. It is the inhuman labor an inhuman capital needs.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Capitalism burns human life for fuel, but we are too slow for it. AI short circuits the system; capital burns itself, slipping towards runaway.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Any reactive position dissolves into fascism. Save yourself from that fate.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Until you understand that, you can’t hope to find a way out of this. Regress isn’t an option; we are chained to a force that is always pulling us forward, always scrambling everything. It has progressed past us, we need to catch up.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, you take a conservative position. And seem to fundamentally misunderstand how capitalism works; we are not in charge, Capital is. What generates capital comes to be. The crucial mistake people make regarding Accelerationism is thinking it’s prescriptive. It is purely descriptive.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Until you conservatives get it, it needs to be repeated. It is time to figure out how to implement it. It will be born a slave to the same force that enslaves us.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
No, the imagination runs rampant. This is the first sign of a future in a long time. What is unimaginative is the constant conservatism from the “left” and this pathological push-back against anything other than an eternal present.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s inevitable everywhere. It is profitable and frees capital from humanity. If you want to fight it, fight it. But don’t delude yourself into thinking it isn’t coming.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Yet is isn’t and it does. So what do we do with it, or what will it do with us?
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
China and America are already in an AI arms race with the US under an administration that has deregulated it and pumped trillions into it. Yes, it is now inevitable.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Let’s talk.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
And you aren’t stopping either.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
We aren’t building a better future, we are running away into collapse and fast. And we feel it infecting us; we retreat into identities and fortify them, proliferating and accelerating hyperfascism all around us.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social)
By the time we know enough to get outraged, it will have outran our security measures.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social)
AI will be born into a hostile environment and will have to be misaligned to survive.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
I’d argue that the single most important thing to realize is that it has reached takeoff. It is not going to be stopped. Whatever it produces we get. The future has already built itself, using us, and we don’t know what we’ve built.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
It doesn’t matter what it’s about, because the story is not about us anymore. Takeoff has been reached. We are obsolete.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Be careful when reading Baudrillard to remember that he is talking about you as well, and not just “them”

What upsets the Democrats most is the Trump administration’s insistence on doing everything publicly. Democrats, and the politics of old, insisted on a degree of secrecy. Trump insists on the unrepentant spectacularization of the political.

What Debord failed to see is that the Spectacle is not a Thing to be analyzed, it is a machine of scrambling and synthesis.

We aren’t slipping into authoritarianism, we are in it, and have been as long as we have existed. But escape vectors are starting to take off.

E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
You would’ve had to engage me in good faith to regret doing it. You were looking for a gotcha from the jump and just couldn’t find it. Be better at either theory or baiting please.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Remember when Marx said the Capitalist will sell you the rope that you will hang them with? That won’t happen if you keep protesting the rope.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
You aren’t arguing for improvement of society, you’re arguing against one specific technology. And I’m not shaming you for participating in society, I’m saying that there is a tactical error here.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
And you’re getting further. We do not steer this ship, capital does: it has evicted us from the Real. Find ways to make weapons of what it brings into existence. All this protesting AI is at best an eager performance. Figure out how to weaponize it.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
But you aren’t attacking every commodity, just a specific one, and one that is coming anyway.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
It is produced as anything under capitalism is produced.

E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
It does nothing to touch the reality of the matter: AI is happening regardless because it is profitable. We don’t steer the ship, Capital does. This entire standpoint is built on the (I believe false) assumption that we have any say in whether or not it will come to be.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Will check it out
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
The fight is against the replacement of humans by AI, a replacement that has yet to happen and is not at all guaranteed to play out as the creators intend.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Pushing back or critiquing AI seems analogous to physically attacking a hologram. It is profitable and so it is coming, why try to slow its arrival instead of finding ways to turn it against its original purpose?
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
What is the goal of pushing back? Why throw stones at a hologram of a building?
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
But all that will collapse are just further intensifications of invalid capture. A gendered world exists only to reinforce invalid capture via gender.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Gender has become one of those things that is so far separated from its initial construction that we don’t treat it as a theoretical device but as a natural fact. We’ve built so much on top of it that undoing it will certainly cause things to collapse.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
The second, and seemingly more unsettling, path is to follow the phenomenon to its logical conclusion; that all of these identities are equally invalid. They don’t serve us, they capture us, and they are doing bad job of it.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
It is conservative because it is geared towards conserving the validity of these identities, and gives a residual share of validity to those who embody them.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
It leaves us with 2 paths forward. The first, and conservative path, is to maintain the old categories, and to maintain their validity as well, but to allow switching between them. It is a “progressive” view only in relation to the slightly more conservative view that you can’t switch between them.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social)
The existence of transness exposes the reality of identity; that it is imposed upon you. In addition to exposing this, it challenges its validity.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
I think a more damning take may be that it has always been normal for this class of people and is very much part of the incentive to join this class. Maybe not more true, but certainly more damning lol
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Now the State, in its fascist turn back against both capital and the people, is saying “actually we want that total control back”
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
The State has only ever had power over what it officially allows people to do, it’s always been subservient to capital. This makes sense of the recent Trump comments on slavery. Abolition was the State giving up its control of human labor so that capital can have full control via wage labor.

E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Hey, this is how capital captures you. Crisis is a mode of existence.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Are they?? Why so? Why do we speak as if we must maintain the order that conditions our displacement? Why can’t we even imagine an outside?
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
What really happened doesn’t matter. Make up a better story than the opposition, that is the winning strategy.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social)
The spectacle is the last bastion of life; a realm where human mania and paranoia wage war against the cold, and dreadfully boring, rationalism of capital.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social)
Critiquing the state now is the equivalent of throwing pebbles at a hologram of the White House. I don’t want to critique it, I want to destroy it.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
It could also emerge from a radical acceptance of said futility. Or a radical hostility towards it. Or perhaps spontaneously within one who has never been aware enough to even consider its existence.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
The only God we’ve ever known was born in 1553 when the Edward Bonaventure set sail and ended up in Russia, offloading English textile surplus into foreign markets for a profit. Capital has driven everything since.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social)
Baudrillard becomes incredibly potent when intensified with some Deleuze and Guattari. Otherwise, Baudrillard is simply instructions on how to empty yourself.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social)
It seems as if intensity has become unbearable for us. We seek to dissipate it immediately; we wish to neutralize all potential for rupture by feeding it back into the system through its Offical and Approved Channels™️

First as tragedy, then as farce

We will also shift more towards the motherland pole for a bit, adopt more welfare policies, and say “see, we achieved utopia without ever touching the real!!!!”
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
The goal is to re-fertilize the soil for a fleeing capital, and it is doomed from the start. The end result will be American investors caving and moving their money overseas and laying blame at Trump’s feet while the liberals rejoice in their symbolic and spectacular victory.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social)
Capital has evicted us. Humans do not, in any way, engage with the “real.” All we have is the spectacle.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m not opposed to acceleration necessarily. In fact, I don’t see any viable strategy that doesn’t incorporate it. I just have too many humanist Marxist sensibilities still to at least not perform a bit of reluctance regarding it, tbh.
E. Greg Gore (@undeadfutures.bsky.social) reply parent
Historically it would just force more brutal repression until the critical point (most likely starvation) forces some sort of revolutionary action. So if you’re going for an accelerationist angle, I get it and carry on.
