Re: joining NATO, perhaps a loophole to this is Ukraine joining the EU, and use the EU's defence clauses to ensure its defence with the rest of European allies. NATO is becoming irrelevant anyway because of the US's unreliability towards its former allies.

Russia’s concession must be to respect everyone else’s sovereignty, without presuming the right to limit that. They’re not conceding anything by stipulating limits on the sovereignty of Ukraine, Europe and the US, quite the opposite. That’s not a concession, it’s a demand.
