IMO the strongest tide in American politics is the Everything Sucks coalition. Whoever is in power is going to be unpopular. Trump was uniquely good at shouting Everything Sucks. But it’s not sustainable when you’re doing the things people think suck.

We’re entering a political era not unlike the one England has lived in for several decades. I’ve spoken to British colleagues my age who say they’ve never had a leader of their country that they admired. Future Americans may well say the same thing by 2040 or so.
