Oh how lovely Ellen
Oh how lovely Ellen
Thanks, Sam. This one took more planning than I usually manage. And Happy Easter to you and your family 💐
Thank you. Sent you an Easter e-card on Good Friday but I don’t think you have seen it yet
Oh thanks for the pointer. The ecard was hiding (surprisingly) in an "updates" folder so I had indeed missed it. Just played the card - what a lovely message. Thank you💙
Glad you liked
That’s fantastic Ellen!
Thanks Glen. I do love our CA poppies
They are gorgeous and it must look so beautiful when whole fields are full of them!
I love seeing little clumps in people's gardens or on hillsides. Yet strangely I've never seen the huge fields of wild poppies, such as those in hills outside of LA. Always a "we'll do that someday" thing. Oops
I’ve seen the photos of those “bloom” years and always thought the same. Some day maybe!
Lovely, Ellen ! 💛
Thanks, Becky. I tried some experiments with watercolor techniques on this one, but mainly I wanted to celebrate the poppies that are blooming now. Such cheerful flowers
Cores lindas
Obrigado 💙 (sorry I did not recognize Portuguese at first)
Ok. I can speak a little in english.
Para o português, devo confiar no Google tradutor (and just hope it is correct) 😄
Gracias
Nice!! I just started experimenting with watercolors, so it’s inspiring to see work like this!
Thanks, Dan. Watercolor is addictive! I hope you get a lot of enjoyment from painting
I am indeed! As a photographer, I’m intrigued by the concept of using your creative tools and skills to abbreviate a scene in a stylistic way, and so I’m having a lot of fun exploring that in a completely different medium!
Beautiful!
Thanks for your comment Les
Just beautiful Ellen Inspired 🌼
Thanks Pam. Makes me happy for you to say so😊
Brilliant - LOVE this, Ellen!!!
Thanks, Bob. Much appreciated
This soo beautiful 😍
Thanks Edo.
AWWWWWWWWWW 🤩 Wonderful, Ellen!
Thanks so much. Really cheered me up for you to say that
🤩
Truly beautiful piece. I love how you take the eye to the bottom centre of the page.
Thanks, Roland. It's an unusual composition, but what you described is what I was trying to do, so Yay!
Came for the Escoda Perla brushes, stayed for the art. Bless you @ellen-friedman.bsky.social our best painting friend!! /cc @micheleclamp.com
Thank you, James. What a lovely thing to say (and the Escoda Perla brushes are wonderful)
Bless you. They are epic. Our credit cards will for ever continue to whimper. 🤣
@micheleclamp.com quickly reminded me that it’s the escoda reserva kolinsky tajmyr sable is the one that makes the credit card really whimper. Michele is a big fan of all escoda brushes. And Christmas presents. And birthday presents. :-)
I have not tried their kolinsky sable. Good sable brushes really are the best. The few I have are from Winsor & Newton Series 7 - superb. 1/
I know sable is preferred, but I've tried over last several yrs to avoid (mostly) natural fiber & tried the synthetic. It's so different, much stiffer & carries less water. But for synthetic, I do love the Escoda Perla 2/
Even synthetic Escoda can make my credit card whimper, so I appreciate both the joy & pain you and your wife experience with sable ones 😄 But life is short and good brushes should be enjoyed! Thanks again for your encouraging comments 3/3
You've reignited my desire for a W&N series 7 again. Charles Reid used to swear by them and if they're good enough for him.... 😀
And all #Escoda brushes are great. Beautiful points on them.
Yes, exactly. Amazingly rare thing, I've found
It's a fantastic painting, Ellen. A treat for the eye.
Thanks Arjen. Great to hear you say that, especially as I love the way you paint flowers (among other things) 🙂
Very cool. I love it!
Thank very much! 😊
Very welcome.
Love this!
Thanks Patrick 😊
Wow, this is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks, Miles. Happy to hear you like it
Masterpiece!
💙 Thanks so much, Tetiana. What a wonderful thing to say!
Really like it a lot. And even was surprised by it in a good way
Just humble suggestion - wouldn’t it be great if this stunning waterflow watercolor was pinned to see it more often, Ellen?
Done!
Thanks a lot! Have already seen it and going to enjoy it regularly!
Oh thanks! What a good idea
Glad you liked it!
Coming from you, @ellen-friedman.bsky.social will consider that very high praise indeed! She has enormous respect for your art.
Thank you, Ted. It nice to hear especially from you.
That is lovely!
Beautiful painting Ellen.
Thanks, Dave. Glad you like it
Absolutely I do.
🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Gwen
This is so beautiful Ellen!
Thanks, Andrea. Trying to focus in on happy things amidst all the stress. The poppies are a joy!
Yes! That’s so important. Those yellow poppies are indeed a joy. They immediately conveyed that, and cheerfulness to me 🤩 😊
Wow Ellen! That's so lovely!
Thanks, Joanna. Actually did some planning on this one. I'd like to try it again with a few modifications
I particularly like the way you've been able to integrate high detail in the foreground with more suggestive, loose colour.
Thank you, thank you! That was exactly the thing I was trying to work out. I find it difficult to plan (left brain?) and paint (right brain?) but with watercolor, both are needed - or a lot more experience so planning is ingrained
Oh definitely, it's so easy to just keep adding detail, but it's such a strength of watercolour the way you can evoke organically. It's a skill I can see but haven't reckoned with at all 😂
Such a lovely painting
Thank you, Frank
Brilliant piece of work Ellen. You done good!
Thanks so much, Sam. Means the world to me to have you say this 😍
Lovely work Ellen!
Thanks a lot, Richard 😊
